Idk who's gonna read this but I just needed to vent a bit. Recently I found out my childhood dream is becoming a reality. I get to join the military! But I need to pull some strings and make sure I'm mentally fit for it. Back in august 2023 my partner transmitted HIV to me. I loved them, they hurt me and disappeared. I couldn't contact them, they blocked me and vanished. I was devastated. I wanted to die, I felt like I did die. I had nothing and no one to support me but my siblings and parents. My friends didn't talk to me, no one reached out. This went on into my senior year. I was alone. And the few friends I did make slowly disappeared. Before that I tried taking my life. I discovered I couldn't join the Military, a life long dream being a military brat. Through some help and hospitalization I was able to finish my journey through the 5 stages of grief. I arrived at acceptance and started moving forward in great strides. I started college and felt amazing. My life was nearing the end of that dark tunnel and I felt like I was a new person , because truthfully I was! I was stronger, happier, and so thankful that all those months ago I didn't successfully kill myself. So when I heard that the military was now accepting HIV positive people so long as they are undetectable (untransmittable), I was ecstatic! Now I'm weeks from having the paperwork that will medically clear me for military processing. I'm crossing my fingers but not holding my breath. The strength that got me here still lives on. And whether I'm allowed to join or not holds no say on my future, because I have the strength to continue on despite everything. Despite everything I've been through I held onto everything I cherished. So if anyone out there is struggling mentally just know if you hold on, you'll eventually come to a better place. Even if you can't fathom such a future where you are.
