I was lucky enough to give 'The Immortal Memory' at the Royal Forth Yacht Club' in Edinburgh, at their 2024 Burns Supper. There was bagpipes, haggis, whisky and great company. Shared to RT Burns Club An expert member gives a few corrections There’s a few discrepancies in Mr Turnbull’s analysis. “..Tinkler Maidgie…” she was a tinker called Madgie, not a tinker Major! A “clue” is cognate with the English word “clew” a ball of yarn. And “grunzie” not “frunzie” or whatever he said. I’ve explained that “hushion” is not a sleeve but a bit of old sock. I love this poem and set it to Tail Toddle and recorded both Nigel Denver and Alastair McDonald singing it about 55 years ago.
Thanks for the corrections! I try to get my facts right, but obviously have slipped a little. Thank you also for sharing this to the RT Burns Club.
Globe has been ruined now ,,,,,,,, Do not know how it was allowed as it was a great pub with lots of interesting people, singer, and ordinary people
