I have a rebel, dct I updated the seat, and I agreed it is good for long rides. It is better not to carry a backpack since the weight made me tire once on my back after one hour. N on twisty roads. It interfered with maneuvering shoulders. Great review

Gal was all up into that install, even pushing through in the dark.. If you just want to pull the bars back, Voigt-MT makes some really nice pull-back risers for the Rebel. They are super clean looking and the anodized coating matches perfectly with the stock risers. They just bolt on between the stock risers and your handle bars... Google Voigt-MT PC56

Brings back sooo many ❤‍🔥memories! This exact spec was my first bike. Bought it while stationed in late 90s at Fort Worth Texas. Rebuilt the engine on a tarp in the living room of my studio apt. Took the MSF Basic Ridercourse Motorcycle Classes in Fort Worth at Honda. Would commute from Arlington to Ft Worth thru blistering humid summers to Icy frigid winters. Traveled all over the Trinity River 360 trails. The thing was a tractor! I then transferred to Point Mugu, North of Malibu, CA. Was living with my mom who lived 58 miles away @ the 405 & 10 freeways. It was a dream to cruise up Pacific Coast Highway in the early morn fog or cut thru some of the best mountain twisties in the world to decompress on the way home. Ended up going riding with a couple neighbors who had brand new Honda CRF450s and blew out the forks and rear shock. Gave it to my Dad who lived in Venice for Father's Day and have no idea what happened to it from there. Safe travels! I'm sure this High Horse will not let you down!

I like the KLR 250 can also "hand start"! Bunnings sells an oil jug with a flexible nozzle. Makes adding oil a lot easier.

Thanks! I'll check it out. I need to do a bunnings run and the KRL is due for an oil change.

Manual says every 16k km, or once a year, so I do a service once a year. Mind you where I live bikes are in winter storage for 5-6 months of the year, guessing that isn't an issue in your neck of the woods. ;)

16,000 km?! That's a long time. Interesting that they have a different service manual. Yeah, I'm lucky and don't have the problem of having to store it. Usually I can still get her out about once a week when it hits winter. 😃 My oil had been in the bike longer than recommended and still looked pretty good after 6,000km.

Is the Honda rebel supposed to get a new back tire every 12k km and new front tire every 24k? That’s what they say for the Kawasaki 400s/500s.

    • @andymoto

That's interesting. I haven't seen anything saying that for the rebel. I just keep an eye on mine and replace when it gets to the wear indicators.

Thanks! 😁 It is starting to get cold. I'm hoping to get as many rides in as possible before it really cools off. Actually on second thoughts I'll be riding through winter 😂

So many memories flooding back about the mighty KLR250. I had a red one with a blue seat. I can’t remember the year model but I sold it with 63,000km on the clock and it still started firs,t kick. Used it as my everyday commuter and weekend fun machine. The pillion foot pegs were on brackets attached to the swingarm. Such a great bike of the many I’ve had over nearly fifty years of riding. Enjoy your KLR!

Thanks Andrew! I absolutely love it 😁 It seems very reliable, my friend can start it first kick but I'm still trying to get the hang of it😂 That's cool about the foot pegs, I might try and pick some up. I'm hoping to get her cleaned up a little more.

@@andymoto mine was a 1984 model and I believe the later ones like yours had a bracket that bolted to the frame for the pillion pegs. There was also a long range fuel tank made by Acerbis (I think), that would make it into a brilliant ADV. Wishing you all the best with your KLR. Mine was a hoot!
