I am going to try that asap. I have been pulling my hair out trying fix this starting issue. ( I'm bald now) I'll let you know if it is the cause of my issue as all the other things to check have not solved the issue. Thanks for the information.
I bought a brand new 212 5 months ago. It was in the box and I restored my go kart and placed the engine on. I put oil in it at level and fresh gas. And won’t start. All I get is the smell of gas and popping at times. But no start at all. This is a new engine never been ran. Kept in box. Any idea what I can do?
Nice! Just did this with a piece of sandpaper. Made a nice flat face with a sharp point on the slide catch and it works great now. No more accidental slide release on even the hardest mag jams, gonna take it to the range and see if it locks after emptying a mag. Thanks for this video!
I have a Taurus Gx4 the slide lock is very hard to chamber a round. I elderly and not very str😂. How do I fix it?
How is this a issue.? Most guns do this. Its actually a nice feature . This is one of the best . If its not broken there is no need to fix it.
Thank you for the video. Mines had same issue right out of the box. Made I few passes with the file and it functions perfect now . We’ll see how it holds up over time . But much better than having to send a new gun straight back for warranty that may or may not fix the problem.
Either your running rich (can cause backfire and fuel inside your oil) or something’s loose or isn’t working properly 🎉
I think the newer models have an improved part. Too bad you cannot ask Taurus for it - no allowed. So you either return it for repair or risk taking it apart. If you lose any of the small parts or springs, you will have a brick - no replacement parts available. So be vewy careful!
Just buy a Glock dude
Funny thing you mention Glock. My 27 does same thing. Try tapping your Glock handle on table with rack back. Does it forward? Mine did.
@@jitterspec oh wow no kidding hmmmm k
A "bastard" file is a rough cut file. There are files that are both finer and more coarse (coarser?)... but bastard cut is typically the average rough cut file you'll come across. I believe you can have bastard cut in both single cut and double cut files, but in both cases the bastard files are the more rough one's you'll find.
Thanks for explaining. Never hear that term anymore
Probably not the best idea to be practicing or explaining with live rounds. I had a negligent discharge years ago, because of something very similar. I was working on a gun and used live rounds to make sure they cycle correctly and got a double-feed that caused the chambered round to go off. Yeah, it wasn't negligent in the terms of pulling the trigger... but it was negligent to be cycling live rounds at my house dozens of times over to check/ensure function. They make snap caps for this reason and if a person owns a gun of any caliber, I always recommend that person have snap caps in that/those caliber(s). They can be expensive sometimes like if you're using them for dry fire practice they can wear out fast... but for simple cycling, they sell all aluminum bullets "action proving" snap caps... and they can be 3d printed for almost nothing (like $0.03/each). I do see that you have a concrete wall in front of you and possibly all around you too... so I have to give credit for that. Most people don't consider doing that. I ended up making a dent in a concrete floor, but luckily I was pointing straight down each time. It would have been a good extra precaution to have done that in my basement with concrete walls and several feet of soil (and a ZERO chance that a stray bullet would hit anyone).
AWESOME" THANKS-NEWSUB in IDAHO!
Like your thought process. I’m a new owner and dismantled the gun to learn more. So I cleaned it (haven’t even shot it yet). Anyway I put the slide back on without the spring and barrel to work the oil a little and the slide will not come off. Can you help
You might need to pull the trigger. I believe if it’s ready to fire it will not release the slide. That might not be your problem but I figured I would bring it up.
@@joshuawarren6631 Thanks I'll try that
I don’t really get some of these comments, calling them he gx4 trash. I own 2 gx4, p365, Springfield xdm compact 10mm and fn 5.7. I like my gx4 better than all of them. My gx4 has been awesome with no issues other than the slide does close if you slam a mag with ammo in it. It will not close if you put an empty mag in it. I have slammed and bumped it pretty hard with a mag with no ammo and it will not close. This doesn’t bother me. My Springfield 10mm does the same exact thing, when you slam a loaded mag into the bottom it will close by itself. Again this doesn’t bother me cause I am not putting a loaded mag in my gun with the slide back unless I am shooting. So if it’s Taurus, Springfield, sig or whoever they all have issues with their guns. Sig p365 had firing pin and slide lock issues when it first came out. The p320 would fire without touching it. The gx4 issues are not because it’s cheap made cause it’s not.
Your always going to have Complainer's, Trolls and Fan Boys. Every Manufacture has there issues. I own and have owned many Taurus models over the years. So far, they always go bang when i pull the trigger. Honestly my GX4 Toro is my favorite EDC. Size, Capacity, weight and price is hard to beat!
I would like to buy one but would rather not have to deal with these issues. Ate they being corrected before shipment now?
Got mine a month ago , same thing is happening with mine.
Me too
That's not good...
had the same issue when I got the gun like a year ago.....I used sand paper to get it to a point....It was getting so bad that every time I locked the slide open and then set it down on something it would slam into battery.
GX4, the tinkerer’s gun! But so are many other brands
Recently got one of these, didn't realize it was an issue. I checked it after watching your video, and sure enough mine does it too. Took all of 5 minutes to fix. I lightly touched mine to a disc bench sander, just a flatten it out, and can't seem to get it to do it even while I'm hitting it on the table. Thank you very much wonderful video. I feel much safer knowing this won't be an issue.
Thank you for this! I've had my GX4 for a year now with over 1000 rounds through it and haven't had a single issue...yet. I did completely disassemble it for a class project (SDI) and fixed the recall issue while I was at it. Next time I give it a deep clean I'll probably do this trick whether it needs it or not as a preventive measure.
Could you explain the recall issue and what you did about it?
@@rickyjones1784 Taurus wouldn't explain it to me over the phone and just said "it's not drop-safe," then told me if I can fix it where the gun is still operational then the warranty will still be honored. Soooo ... I made a video about it. ruclips.net/video/AQ2cspEwnuA/видео.htmlsi=7CbTiA0uJu7pIZ86
I’m having the same issue with mine and it’s brand new
Not understanding the issue. When I slam mags in my HKs, CZs, IWI the slide goes closes without using the slide release. None of them says it's an issue.
It's more the sensitivity of this issue. Mine will slam forward when setting the gun on its side after firing a fresh mag.
Putting that bar in a vice and using a dremel would be much easier and faster. Also, take a picture before taking things apart with your phone. Helps immensely.
All my handguns will release the slide if the mag is slammed in really hard. They all also chamber a round. I'm talking hammer fired and striker fired. Including my Glocks. It's normal man. But mine was releasing the slide while hot just sitting on the table after a few magazines. I used your how to to take mine apart and file. Also, I found there was burrs right around the hole on my level. So hit that with some 1500 grit. Put the flat on and good to go now. Thanks.
I had this issue and it got worse over time. Did the slide stop mod today with a Dremel but very slowly. Ended up with a very nice flat point and the slide now stays when the chamber is open. Easy to do and recommend doing it if you don’t have the time for Taurus to do it. Took me around 10 minutes from taking it apart to putting it back together.
Anymore update. I have the gx4, no issues, no recall. Bought the Gx4xl and it's doing it.
Send it to Taurus to get it fixed for free or follow video to fix yourself. My gun is doing well after a few hundred rounds. Honestly, I tried the table tap test with my Glocks and the Taurus slide stays back with harder hits to mag well. Very easy to "tune" the amount of force required to drop the stop. Just go slow with file and be patient. It's actually satisfying gunsmithing a simple issue like this if youre in to that sort of thing. Otherwise Taurus will fix for you!
@@jitterspec thank you.
Just bought a G4 carry. Only did the "auto slide close " once. Im more concerned with the trigger return spring that's exposed forward of the trigger. Could be future problems if you get debris or dirt in it.
Mine will go forward even without a magazine inserted. The first time it happened I had left the gun unloaded without the mag on the shooting bench. I turned away to throw my target in the trash, and then I heard it rack the slide all by itself. I thought to myself, "Did that gun just try to load itself?" Indeed it did. It isn't too big of a deal for me since I always keep it fully loaded or completely unloaded, but this could be very dangerous for many owners of various experience levels. Mine is not on the recall list, which I believe is for something different.
I felt like it was an upgrade too until I thought about the use case of being in fight and needing a tactical reload or mag change and rack forwarding on its own. A few seconds lost.
I have the new Taurus GX4 carry and mine does this as well. I called Taurus customer service and they said this a safety feature on their GX4 models. They said it’s normal, which is kind of a weird normal because if you’re involved in a gun fight and god forbid you have to reload. That could be detrimental for you. I mean it can be overcame by with training but nonetheless it’s still an awkward safety feature. How is the slide closing on its own without a mag in it a safety feature ? Beats me. 🤷🏽♂️
Mine does it when very hot after back to back magazines fired. I mean like 50+ rounds quickly mag dumping. Oiling the recoil spring assembly solved it for me. People argue not to lubricate the recoil springs but every gun is much smoother with a lubed recoil spring assembly. People have to remember these tiny guns aren't made to do mag dumps repeatedly or putting 300rds through them in an hour. They are for defending yourself with 1 or 2 mags.
just got the lakeline stainless steel striker guide assembly, SS recoil spring, and a ported barrel. Installed everything and mine started to have this issue immediately, you think it might have something to do with recoil spring? It didnt happen before i installed these parts.@@neverendingmods
I actually had the same issue but worse, I say worse because, with a subtle move, the slide goes back to position (from your video you had to hit a little harder to put back the slide) , In my case, I did send the gun to Tauros from Warranty took two weeks to get back the GUN latter the gun develops an issue when you put pressure (from right to left) on the trigger (right-handed) the trigger will not reset (there are some videos that show the issue in youtube) is back to Taurus factory. Thanks for your video.
This is what a drop safe issue is.
That is awesome! Thank you for sharing

Exactly what I was looking for, thank you
great video. i'm considering this tent and will be transporting it in my GR corolla hatchback. may have to store it sideways with the rear seats down
Every summer i have to replace the carburator. Timing key sheered on me and valve lash thosands of times adjusted tring to figure out why it wouldnt start. Ditch that oil sencor. Just make sure you check the oil and drain plugs befor running it. The seal on the case and valve cover are shit. Even the expensive rubber ones fail. Shit cost a lot. Better off buying a new engine than the parts to build the crap
I bought one used and the inductor coil is missing. Do you know the size so I can order a replacement coil.
Great video. I have a tacoma short bed that's 60 inches deep. You think the t4 could fit in that space? From you video seems like 64 inches is the maximum.
Well, it will fit diagonally. I strap it down on my roof rack, much easier. Great tent though.
Very helpful thanks so much!!
you can try to find the board for it
Great review. How long did you ride this bike? I’m considering buying one in 2022.
I ended up cracking the frame at year 6. I'm a heavy guy and ride hard. I repaired the frame and so ride it today. Love it but salsa only has a 5 year warranty
@@jitterspec rad!

Horizontal video please - vertical video is for kids and tictokers... Otherwise, thanks for the informative video!
Also the block looking thingy is a capacitor to help it start up
Your pretty much by passing the switch
Really appreciate the help. So you are confirming that this motor is powered by 2 wires instead of 4 like traditional manual switches. Wonder if they ran different voltages to motor with electronic circuit. Maybe I can do the same with high wattage variable resistor?
@@jitterspec the main windings are powered by 2 wires and the start windings are powered by the 2 capacitor windings
Just don’t send more than 120 volts to it
Let me know if it works!!!!
It worked! Thanks @icyy 2cold for saving my fan!
@@jitterspec your welcome !!!!!!!!! Have a good day
So solder longer wires on those the black and white and put a plug on it and it will run I would use a variac and slowly give it power to make sure it is working right
I would try to take the black and white wire that is running from the circuit to the motor and make those the power leads it would only run on high that what it would do
This fits in my 2016 Toyota Camry with one of the seats folded down. It takes up a lot of room but it works :) Best tent ever
adjust your valves
that's a great point, electrical connection corrosion is a problem on these engines. the low oil is good on a engine that is stationary but on a gokart or minibike they gotta go. i have a couple old 5hp briggs engines with low oil cutoff and they are not as sensitive so i leave those alone
