How to grade sizes on inkscape using the interpolate feature
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.3 года назад
How to grade sizes on inkscape using the interpolate feature
Is the top stitch necessary? What’s the reason for it?
The top stitch keeps the fabric tacked down so it doesn't get caught in the zipper when you are using it.
This video was very helpfull thank you.
Simply and easy, thanks. 😊❤ 🪡 🧵
What is the front width measurement that you use at 11:25?
Genuinely pretty helpful. Wanted to make a kurta for a friend's newborn but even the quick and easy tutorials are all putting in functional button plackets. It's a new born. Ain't nobody got time for that. Gna do shoulder snaps and decorative buttons instead
After you trace a pattern, do you just save it as a PDF then project it? Sizing will stay accurate?
essentially, yes. I usually recommend also drawing (with the square feature) a 1" square for you to double check sizing.
OMG I didn’t know you could do that ‘difference’ action! 🎉 I’ve been dragging nodes to shorten and lengthen… 🙈 Would this work with a triangle for me to do sloped shoulders adjustments? And is there a similarly easy way to add length please?
yes, it should work with triangles. To add length, union would work. probably. its been a hot minute since I've used inkscape, so you might want to copy and paste a few versions to experiment.
@@SunnyMountainPatterns thank you 🙏
Thank you for this! I knew with all this technology there had to be an easier way to grade!!! 👌🏽
💜
This looks great for planning the most efficient cutting layout or checking if you can squeeze a particular pattern out of an amount of fabric from your stash. Can I ask though, do you need to check the scale of the imported pattern pieces before laying them out? Or does the yardage measuring template work without that based on the pattern being scaled correctly on the A0 file? (I hope I explained that ok!)
it should import correctly, but its always a good idea to check the scale. You can do that by drawing a square (such as a 2" x 2" square) and your A0 should have a similar square already on it.
@@SunnyMountainPatterns thanks!
Your presentation style is just how I think things through, nice learning approach.
My Inkscape program doesn't have the Interpolation method option shown at 4:47. Do I need to upgrade for this option?
It might be a difference in versions. I made this about 2 years ago. So perhaps interpolate is called something different now.
Is this adobe acrobat?
Thank you so much! Love this❤
Thank you so much! I have an old machine, I'm not even sure if I can buy a zipper foot for it. 😅 I will try this solution for sure 💖💖💖💖
hope it helps! The old machines are the best for this hack, since they have very thin feet.
Hello Cathleen! What software do I need if I buy the course? Thank you
Hello J- The course is geared towards Adobe Illustrator. Thanks! Also, I stopped using the Teachable platform to host the lessons.
@@SunnyMountainPatterns that’s a bummer.. any way I can email you? Thank you
@@jlehmann5717 yes- you can find my email address at my etsy shop: etsy.com/shop/sunnymountainpattern
question; how do you scale and divide them up for printing the pattern on standard sized paper?
if you're using inkscape, you would need to select the paper size to be 8 1/2x11 (US) or A4, and move each part over the paper outline in inkscape and print a separate pdf per each. This might have changed with the newest version of inkscape.
@@SunnyMountainPatterns Heyy, can you make a video showing how to do this please?
Thank you soooo much for this video! i use a portable machine so it was very helpful
Thank you so much for introducing this method to me. I love it and will SAVE me so much TIME!!! Sending you good energy. xxx
this is so so helpful. thank you!!!
If you have a projector, you can draw a rectangle of known dimension on a piece of dotted paper and hang it on a wall. Then draw a rectangle of the same dimension in illustrator, autocad, gerber etc.. Project your workspace matching the rectangle on your computer to the one on the wall via zooming, keying until they match exactly. now any patterns placed on the wall within your rectangle will be 1:1. Simply tape patterns within the rectangle and trace the patterns out in your application of choice! I use the rectangle's straight lines for CF, CB GRAIN etc... instead of tracing them so my pieces are automatically square in the computer. This method gives you the benefit of comparing the patterns with your digitized pieces and lets you edit/alter your 'digitized' patterns more accurately.
This is SO helpful! Thank you! 🙏
You're welcome!
This is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks a lot!
you're welcome!
Hi there! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I’m trying to figure out how to make pattern pieces exact same length. For example, I have a front pant that I adjusted the length of and now I need my back pant to be the same length as the front one. Is there a way to do it in Inkscape? Can’t figure it out. Thank you!❤️
yes, you can pivot the back pant leg to match at the crotch with the front, and then adjust the length of the inseam of the back from there. Do the same with the side seam, and you should be good to go. To pivot, you just click a 2nd time (slower than a double click) and rotation handles should show up.
Thank you! I found his helpful
you are welcome! hope it helps you!
This is really helpful! Thank you!
you'e welcome!
Hi! Thank you for the video! Does this program generate pattern pieces from a uploaded sketch?
Hi, no it doesn't. This program is a SVG software. You would have to do the pattern drafting yourself, but can use Inkscape to do so.
Thankful that you took the time to make the instructions video, just wished it could've been explained a bit clearer. Too many back and forth and the confusion with illustrator is confusing for the audience. 😀❤️.
thank you for your feedback! I'll try to get the shortcuts straight next time!
Well that last one is absolutely amazing!
It sure is! THis was a combination effort between myself and one of the members of the projectors for sewing facebook group members!
I have found that saving the file as folder.jpg the system on default setting will automatically use your image
Thank you for that helpful shortcut tip! I'll have to add it onto my version 2!
Fiona, I made a version two, and included your tip! It's a really awesome tip, thank you!

This is SO incredibly useful, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I was totally stumped on what to do after I created the slash lines, thankfully now I can move on!
thank you! I'm glad that this tutorial helped! Usually I draft my own patterns for myself, so no full bust adjustment needed on my part, but thought that I'd make a tutorial on using inkscape so you can make one yourself for projector files.
I think inkscape is the best from the free drafting software. I tried Valentina and was a bit disappointed ...decided to stick to inkscape. Is it a baby romper?
Ewa- yes this is a baby romper pattern. I haven't tried Valentina, but did give Wild Ginger a try, it was very hard to learn how to use. The only advantage I can see from specific pattern drafting software would be the size grading features, and if the software could link between pattern pieces, such as if you made the armhole larger, the sleeve cap would automatically adjust to that longer length.
Hi there! I'm very new to sewing and I have a couple questions: 1. Can you sew a lining fabric as well? Like, you have the orange on the outside, could sew that grey fabric that you used as the strap as a liner on the inside? 2. Are the grey ends of the zipper necessary? Can I skip that step? 3. Could I still make this and not include the strap? Thank you for your time! Sorry for all the newb questions.
Hi! Glad you've got some questions! 1. for a liner, it requires a different assembly technique, because it's a bit tricky to make the bag right side out again. That's too hard to type out the instructions here. 2. the grey ends are only necessary if you have to cut the zipper to fit to the bag.You can have the ends (without cutting them) inside the bag. If you cut the zipper and do not put stoppers, the zipper will zip right off. 3. of course you could leave out the strap. It's just one less step for you to do. Thank you for the questions!
@@SunnyMountainPatterns awesome! Thanks! One more question: what kinds of fabric can I use for the divider?
@@totallyawesomex1057 you can use any type of woven fabric (read: non stretchy fabric). So things like poplin, canvas, duck cloth, denim. Of course you could use knit fabric (stretchy fabric) but that usually gets misshapen while you are working with it.
@@SunnyMountainPatterns thank you so much! I'm so new to sewing, so this helps a TON! I appreciate you taking the time to respond. 😊
@@totallyawesomex1057 you are welcome! Good luck on your journey!
I mean, it's a lot of work to do this by hand so it's a lot of work to do it digitally but...ugh. I am never happy with a garment unless I do an FBA but I hate doing them. BUT this will be great for doing it once and saving it, plus I kind of think once you do it a couple times digitally, you can probably do them much quicker than always by hand.
that is true- the bust point is the hard part! Of coures I don't know how to do this for a 2 dart or dartless pattern (just make it wider?). Good luck!
@@SunnyMountainPatterns yeah…dartless I usually create a dart and then rotate it out but I used a rectangular thing last time and it would be easier digitally I think.
Or a boob bump…
@@DaileySewsStuff a retctangular thing? that sounds not dart like at all! I need to see that!
@@SunnyMountainPatterns yes! It was for knits/dartless FBAs.
bonjour, j'arrive pas a degrouper les taille!!! jai selectionner plusieure fois
Perhaps inkscape is not reading them as groups, but as one very large complicated set of paths? If not, please try Path-convert object to path first, and see if that works.
It won't Union groups :(
you have to ungroup them first, then you can union. if not, then go to path>object to path
bonjour...comment separè les tailles dun patron pdf?
Hello- you can separate the sizes on a PDF on Inkscape by ungrouping. shift+control+g

Yvonne, you are welcome! I thought some cute different scrunchies would be fun!
Hi! Can you tell me more about bias tape? Can I make my own bias tape with the same fabric? I have non-stretch linen.
Julia-Isabel- yes, you can! It's just 1" wide strips cut on the bias (at 45 degrees from the selvage), then folded in towards the center along the length. There's lots of little tools to help form bias tape, but the idea is generally to just fold in half along the length, and then fold the ends in like a book to form a double fold bias tape. Non stretch linen should work perfectly to make bias tape!
This is a game changer and a wonderful idea. I just wish you had slowed down a little to explain the steps in the beginning. Thank you.
Celeste- thank you for the input! I will refilm a slowed down (probably in real time) tutorial soon!
I LOVE it!
thank you! Once I get the tutorial put together, the pattern and tutorial will be available on the Sewing Sunny Mountain Patterns facebook group
Way better than Dora's backpack.
Thanks! Well, It's not quite dora's backpack, seeing as it's real and not a cartoon
Thanks for the video! I can't stop watching projector tutorials! I am a lil new to sewing with patterns in general and diving right in with projector patterns. If a pattern says cut 2 mirror pieces, when using the projector, can I just cut the outer most line and flip the cut piece onto the fabric to use as an outline to cut the rest of the piece (therefore getting one piece instead of two pieces to sew together?)
Bernadette- thank you! Yes, that should be correct- Mirroring should be the same as the old paper "cut on fold". Do check the instructions, though, to double check that it should be a single piece (and not two separate pieces). Generally, bodice fronts, backs, and skirt fronts and backs are cut on fold traditionally.
your lessons are amazing, and you are too funny. could you provide a link to your patterns for me. thanks
Joey- thanks for the kind words! my patterns are available on Etsy right now: etsy.com/shop/sunnymountainpattern
This is awesome Cathleen!
Thanks, Wendy!
