The Lateral hop is good for hitting angle shots. Use a forward open stance where your right foot is forward of your left foot. This opens up your shoulders and help to hit an angle. You can lift your left knee into your chest for balance.

Amazing footwork explanations Luke thank you and great demos Cheers
Absolutely outstanding coach! Subscribed.
Nice instructions. But music is loud and annoying.
Excellent video! Thank you.
I love these exercises. I’ll be using many with my just 2 yr old grandson who is already timing and hitting a bouncing tennis ball with amazing power. Snd yes most importantly I’ll keep it short and fun! Thank you!
Gold mine! Thanks!
Gonna try this at home! thank you!
This is far too much stuff for a high schooler and recreational player.. show just 4 at a time better for everyone... just take. I have 85 players. Utr 7.5 to 9.0 90% agree. Perhaps 9 mos. + I actually most. After all, tennis is situational.
I Agree, its a lot of information, We have 400 students, most of them are beginner to intermediate kids.. we only teach a few of the main footwork in our group lessons and skip the harder ones. As a coach, It is helpful to know them all though, if you are doing privates with advanced students like you say, What I would do is link a tactical situation to the footwork, eg front foot hop links to attacking a short ball down the line.. lateral hop is good for angles, forward transfer good for return...so that way you can make heaps of lesson plans that link the footwork to a real tactical situation. Anyways check out the pro player clips of each footwork, its nicer than watching me demo it :) Have a great day.
Great ideas! Love the different tools you use to teach techniques . Engaging & fun.
Thank you, and i just uploaded a new video for blue level hotshots lessons, although its aimed at educating our aintree customers, it might give you a few other ideas to work on. ruclips.net/video/8O646xzE5wo/видео.html
Thanks for putting together these videos, coach. It’s very helpful to see the contact moves in real world situations.
the best
Great video! Thanks.
Great video, thanks!
Very, very well done - good job.Thank's a lot!
your video its useless
no wonder you gave up the channel
It's mostly very helpful. However, "Reverse Spin" doesn't look correct to me, as there is no time for you setup when moving back. Here is the correct one: ruclips.net/video/0jCmkOfCHuQ/видео.html
Hi cgtennis, Thanks for your comment. Yes your video is also correct. It depends on the situation. For a slow & high bouncing ball a semi open stance (like my video) would be the best option, whereas for a faster incoming ball the neutral stance in your video will work better. i snipped up some pro footage showing both variations, I think you find it helpful. ruclips.net/video/9C_OQuWeg5Q/видео.html , Both are correct. Just the stance is different.
When do you do reverse spin vs when to do backwards hop?
Reverse spin is more used going straight back.. whereas backfoot hop is used in the deep forehand cross court exchange or backhand cross court..
@@lukehodgkin3503 how do you know when to use each movement/contact pattern? Does that come from recognising the flight of the incoming ball early and knowing from repetitive practise what one to use. My coach days the ball invites you to go in a certain direction with your body and not to focus on the different variation pivot back foot hop back foot reverse spin etc
When you do hittting off back foot you do shuffle steps. Is it better to do crossover steps or it depends?
For a backfoot hop I prefer to use sidesteps/ shuffle steps back at a diagonal .. hop back at little bit and lift the left knee up into my chest...the the goal being to let a heavy Topspin forehand cross come back down into hitting zone. I wouldn't over think it though..as long as you practice the backfoot hop move itself . You feet will figure out how to get there. Here is a video with some examples.. ruclips.net/video/e55JjO2qDS0/видео.htmlsi=RovutCwdHmeDwFKD. .. you will notice a mix of side steps.. cross overs.. it's always a bit different. Hope that helps.
@@lukehodgkin3503 interesting video. I definitely need to practise these moves individually as when I play I do things incorrwct. Like when hitting off back foot I also lean upper body back and so ball goes out, I need to make sure upper body remains neutral and onpy feet are stepping back bot leaning torso back. Lots of work to be done but I am excited to improve.
shuffle steps when you're out wider because you need the speed they provide to get back. shuffle when you can shuffle back in time
Love it. Will try it with my daughter
Good morning.. This is really good stuff.. Very in depth.. Thanks for sharing
Thank you
ESPECTACULAR VIDEO !! 👏🏼👏🏽🇪🇦🇪🇸 GRACIAS
Great job, you are a fan of tennis and coaching.
You are good man, very professional.
OK nice but where’s the bloody one handed backhand?😲
Thank You. A very nice, detailed and clear instructional video. Well Done !!!
Excellent and comprehensive footwork demo! Thank you indeed!
awesome, great and amazing , it's powerful to tennis players
Thanx for sharing💪🤙🤙🙏👌very usefull
Excellent
♥️🎾💪🙏
Is this inspired by Dave Bailey
Yes, all these footworks are inspired by David baileys method. Ive studied his method for 10+ years and do my own research too. He has never put out a video on return of serve as far as I am aware. So this video is gold. Took months to snip up these matches.
@@in2tennisCoaching I’ve the pleasure of training with him. Incredibly helpful. He actually gave me a usb with a video of each of the 150 moves (about)
This and mogul steps look the same to me. What’s the difference? 🙏🎾
Hi Jason Bourne, This is all the bailey method footwork, so check out some of his work too. The Mogul move is like a side step with an open stance, near the singles line ... whereas lateral hop is with a forward open stance (Right foot forward of your left foot), which opens up your shoulders more and helps to hit an angle shot. Also with a lateral hop you can lift your left knee up into your chest for balance. I explain the difference in technique in this video ruclips.net/video/jaNeQEfTT9c/видео.htmlsi=fktXUfBK5FyIxf7_
👍👍👍
Why does it call step down? It looks to me the right foot steps in to front of the body
Hi Jason Bourne, Its just a name given to it by David bailey. Some coaches call it something else. You step into the court with your left foot and you swing the right leg around after contact so it drive your hip and body weight into the shot. There are step down low (drop the knee), sep down high (back leg kick) and normal height. this video here has a good demo ruclips.net/video/jaNeQEfTT9c/видео.htmlsi=UFfKobQ0Zp5i3Xct

Exactly what i needed... great video! Thanks
Beautiful work. Thank you!
Hi Luke, i am one of the students from aintree that went to the tennis courts for P.E
Thanks good job in about 10 years I'll have this down. LOL
It's funny you say that , cos I've been studying and teaching bailey method 10 years to my students. I can memorise it all now. But the first few years was tough. Hope this video helped lay out where each one belongs.
@@lukehodgkin3503 how do pros put all these movement in muscle memory?
Thank you 🎾
I suggest they size it up to the size of a one car garage door opening for a perfect application in people's driveways.
Yes you can mount in anywhere. I have mounted one in front of a garage. Check out the new video. ruclips.net/video/mPIdTLdNffY/видео.html
@@in2tennisCoaching I don't think you understand. If the current model was installed at the opening of my garage, it would scrape my car going in and out. But if it was upsized to standard single garage door width and height, it could be left installed and retracted.
Great work Luke! Extremely a great way to watch & learn. Thankyou
"Great" Teachings Luke, Extremely amazing to watch & learn..
"FANTASTIC" way to have extra work done on your game!! Well done Luke. Our daughter has improved since installing the backboard..
Magnificent set skills.
Our daughter Bella is 5 years old and has improved heaps from using this backboard. She can now hit 5 shots. Highly recommend it!
Magnificent work Coach Luke! My Daughter's Game has improved so much with your teachings.. Thankyou
