Nikolayeva plays Rachmaninov
This is my latest find in a thrift store, the recording is from 1953. It is on the Supraphon label (H LPM 1). I cleaned the record using my own formula and the recording was made on an AIWA LX-70 (with an AIWA element) and a LUXMAN R-1030 amp.
I use mild noise reduction, in order not to remove too many high frequency's.

Alexander Uninsky, Tchaikovsky piano concerto no. 1 opus 23

Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto no.1 Opus 23 Alexander Uninsky / Willem van Otterloo / The Resedency-Orchestra (The Hague). I thought i should share this one. A very strong performance by Uninski. I whould be interested in your opinions. I bought the record in a junk shop and upgraded the soundquality a bit. The recording was made in October 1951. Offcourse Uninsky was the winner of the 2nd Chopin ...
Peter Nero, Gershwin's Porgy and Bess medley

In my opinion Nero's best. He makes the piano sound as if it were a whole orchestra! - note that he uses snatches of Gershwin's Concerto in F to abridge in between numbers 0:00 Bess You Is My Woman 3:00 Oh Bess, Oh Where's My Bess 4:52 It Ain't Necessarily So 7:15 Summertime 11:04 My Man's Gone Now 13:56 I Loves You Porgy 16:40 I Got Plenty O' Nuttin 19:14 Reprise - Bess You Is My Woman
Peter Nero, pianoconcerto: Fantasy and Improvisations
Просмотров 11 тыс.12 лет назад
This concerto easely ranks among the better uploads of its kind here on youtube (in my humble opinion). NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED. (The recording is no longer commercially available, sadly). Nero played this concerto in Holland with Edo de Waard as conductor and the Rotterdam Philharmonic. Anyone remembers the details? Sad to learn that Mr. Nero is currently involved in a court battle ...
Martinu - Piano Concertino for the Left Hand (II Andante)

Divertimento (1926) reworked as Concertino for Piano (Left Hand) and Chamber Orchestra. The first performance was given by Ottokar Hollmann in 1947 in Prague. This little concerto was allways a favourite of mine. You have good music, very good music and from time to time transendentic good music. I am not saying that you can compare this to Bach, Mozart or Beethoven, but when you listen to 3:35...
Shostakovich quotes Wagner (musical quiz)

In his 15th symphony Shostakovich quotes (among others) Wagner. I made this video to show how he uses Wagners "Faith" motif from the Ring. If you don't look at the video, try to find the moment where Gotterdammerung switches into the 15th symphony. Wagner: Bayreuth Festival / Barenboim recorded from BBC-3 radio The paintings are by the Polish painter Zdzyslaw Beksinski who was murdered by his s...
Sunrise! - Prokofiev: Scythian Suite
Просмотров 74612 лет назад
Imagine yourself a sunrise. What sort of music should be fitting? Prokofiev was strugling with this idea in his ballet "Alla and Lolli". Well, not so much strugling if you listen to the result. I was looking for a fitting video, because the music has a climax and something should happen in the video during the climax. Hope you like it!
Peter Nero plays Variations on Gershwin's I Got Rhythm

Peter Nero plays George Gershwin's "I Got Rhythm" I have allways been a great fan of Peter Nero. I like the way he uses his musical whit and virtuosity into a mind dazzling combination. Check out the "original" version at 5:20 with Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops. A timeless arrangement, with a first class orchestra / conductor / soloist.

Krauze - Piano Concerto nr.1

Zygmunt Krauze (1938) - Piano concerto nr.1 This is a recording which i made somewhere around 1980, live from the Concertgebouw by Dutch Radio. The pianist was Krauze himself, with Het Omroep Orkest / David Porcelijn.

I found this album in a bargain bin (that's how I got much of my musical education). The first time I heard this medley despite knowing nothing of Gershwin, the story, or anything, I got it all -- there's not one bit of tragedy or triumph that he didn't squeeze in there. I wore out my first copy and found and hid away a second copy even though CDs were coming in. I collected every album of his that I could find. I managed to attend three of his concerts (not counting his first two as conductor of the Philly Pops). The most remarkable was a benefit for a temple in Newton on a lousy weather winter night, I think? He played all of both this medley _and_ the West Side Story medley, plus so much more -- he was cooking that night. I got there early, and so they let me sit in the back while he warmed up, which was an education in itself. It used to fry my grits to read articles by jazz critics who refused to recognize or credit his talent. We have lost so much with the passing of Bernard Nierow. Thank you, sir, for the music.

WOW! What a thrilling, spectacular performance of a sumptuous, one-of-a-kind piano arrangement of Gershwin's masterpieces!!! I'm here because I just read of Peter Nero's passing in July (2023), and I'm feeling very sad, knowing we've lost a beloved musical genius. The New York Times published a must-read obituary about this extraordinary man. I hope you'll read it...and share with others who may not YET be fans.

Saw Mr. Nero in 1966 at CW Post College on Long Island, and my socks were literally blown off. Had this album until sold years ago. Finally saw the 1959 film last night with tears in my eyes. He truly is the G.O.A.T.

While my age peers were venerating the Beatles and, if they were cool, the Stones, my hero was Peter Nero. I'd play along with his records trying, unsuccessfull, to play what he was doing. I never achieved Nero status but I fully credit him with having given me far more useful "piano lessons" than provided by any piano teacher. And yes, I was a busy wedding and bar--mitzvah pianist in New York having played 2,000 gigs before I was 20.

My parents and I used to watch Peter Nero play on TV back in the 60s,He is an extremely accomplished pianist and musician.I like how he can apply jazz and classical in the one song. The music was very structured but also there was plenty of room created for improvisation. This was particularly evident in the 2nd recording with the Boston Pops.

When I was a kid in high school I went to the public library and checked this out. Days later I came down with mononucleosis and spent two weeks in bed, listening to this album hundreds of times. After that I fell so in love with this man's playing that I bought every record of his. After the record company urged him to cut the jazz and go with the pop stuff, I was disappointed. Those records didn't show off his skills like these earlier albums did. He is my piano idol.
