Thanks for this bro, really good food for thought and suggestions for me. I never thought I'd have to consider this. But I just met a friend of family who I'm taking through a short strength training programme. She's 26yo, she's played Netball, and she doesn't know how to jump. As in she literally cannot jump onto the shortest step box in the gym. Her body doesn't know the motion of raising the knees up to jump onto platform. So essentially a 26yo who can do barbell movements with my coaching, but is able to move less than an elderly person. Such an interesting topic!
Thank you! You’re doing AWESOME work helping her out! I’ve experienced that a lot with people who don’t have an athletic background where they lack the confidence and ability to jump and/or land. Similar to these exercises, I always like to build their confidence through lateral plyometrics first (push step, side shuffle, single leg lateral bound, reactive lateral bound). Those give a great foundation of jumping and landing without the risk and fear of missing a box they’re trying to land on. Keep up the great work!!!
@@zackkauffman right on coach! Before even encountering her problem of not knowing how to jump up I already took her through a phase of easy plyos; ie forward&backwards hops and pogos, forward skipping, walking high knees, single leg lateral jumps, short horizontal jumps etc. After all that you could imagine my shock that a simpler upwards jump wasn't any part of her body dictionary! The body is a wonderful thing 😂. After witnessing her complete single leg laterals and sticking landings we had to celebrate her clearing the DIFFICULT stuff, and just something tiny was just missing for a basic jump
Having to tell someone they can take regular steps up the stairs taller than they can jump on 2 feet is an achievement in itself. Super cool
