Commander Kruge as played by Christopher Lloyd. I didn't mean it was ACTUAL hair, just that it features strands of individual hair.

Wasn't really a rant. Once you understand that nanjin doesn't care about what collectors want and that he's doing this all for himself and we're just helping him foot the bill, you start to realize why he makes the decisions he makes. If you have discord I could get on voice chat and tell you whatever you want to know
It was a mild rant. I do think EXO-6 is putting out some really good figures although they got me steamed when they released Star Trek The Motion Picture Kirk for half a second before cutting off sales. I do think you have a good point and Nanjin. Who was clamoring for a Wesley Crusher? Fans want Uhura.
@@davidswan5295 nobody does. He thinks as soon as everyone has the tos crew they aren't going to buy any of the other characters from the other shows so he's deliberately not doing them. Same with the twok fiasco
How much and where can I get
I bought mine from Big Bad Toy store for nearly $300 and it's still available for sale.
@davidswan5295 I wish I could but I just spent $166 on a vintage GI Joe wow it's really beautiful well done thank you anyway
@VinnieCruz-jt7zm I'd love to know what G.I Joe figure you got.
@davidswan5295 I'm going to try to send you a picture
Thank you. I have a bunch of original G.I. Joe figures that were heavily played with from my childhood.
The Mobilesuit on the cover of Char‘s Counterattack is the Nightingale, not the Sazabi. It is a lot bigger than the Sazabi. Think of it as a Sazabi on steroids.
Thanks for the heads up. Gundam can be extremely challenging to follow. There is SO many different mecha. I haven't seen the Anime for Char's Counterstrike yet and I only have the first 2 volumes of the Manga.
I love the fugure and I even custom painted a second one sonit would be Joe the condor. I'm not going to complain because this are the best figures we've gotten for these characters. Too bad they not going to make the entire team And if they do I'll be 90 by the time they come out with them😂😂😂
I'd love to see them make even more than the core 5. I'd love a Dr Nambu, Berg Katse and a Galactor trooper but as you said, at the pace their going it would be decades. They may be the best Gatchaman figures out there but there is definitely room for improvement. The biggest issue with Ken is that darn cape. They should have gone with a fabric cape but Storm Collectibles seem to only use those soft plastics. I also wish the face was more anime accurate. I'm happy that Jun is the second figure since Joe does seem like the more obvious choice. I would love to see what Bandai or Figma could do with Gatchaman.
Which one is best? For now, the sky x studio version. Bigger, more poseable. It's panely, but it lends to high action posing.
CCS toys has it's style of figure and it's often at odds with anime accuracy and I am a huge fan of anime accuracy. I gotta go with Sky X because their figures are rock solid and very anime accurate. I'd say right now Sky X and Blitzway/Carbotix are my two favorites.
I hope sales of wave 3 are high enough for them to make a 4th wave. I'd really like Geezil and Alice, then maybe the Oyls or King Blozo and Oxheart.
I preordered waves 1 and 2 but not 3 for several reasons. First of all, the QC issues in wave 2 were very disappointing but the bigger reason is that all the figures in the first 2 waves eventually went on sizable discount. I fully intend to get the wave 3 figures but I can wait. Geezil, Blozo and Oxheart are absolute must haves for me and I would also love to get Ham Gravy, Nana and Cole. I think it would be awesome if they made a scale sized boat to place the figures on.
@davidswan5295 I didn't realize there were widespread QC issues in wave 2. I guess I got lucky with my figures. Sorry you had issues. I hope most folks don't wait for wave 3 to get marked down because that will mean we won't get a fourth wave. Honestly, I'm not expecting a fourth wave because we're down to the more obscure characters. I'm still hoping, though. I'd love to get all the characters you listed.
I did a video on Popeye in his navy whites and the paint job was pretty awful but this wasn't the only problematic figure. Putting the QC issues aside, just looking at the design of the articulation and the materials used I don't think these figures are worth $40 as compared to what other companies are charging which may explain why these figures went on up to 50% discounts. Should I pay full price just to try and encourage a wave 4 that may never come? I hate overpaying even though I love Popeye but I think Boss Fight Studios should have a more reasonable price out of the gate. I actually want the obscure characters more than the well known characters so I do hope that there is a wave 4 and dare I dream, a wave 5? On the other hand, imagine if Bandai or figma did Popeye figures. I appreciate what BFS is doing in this line but another company could possibly put out the end all be all of Popeye figures.
@davidswan5295 Sorry you got such a bad figure. I agree the price feels pretty high for these figures, even considering the high prices of figures in general now. I assume part of the price is due to BFS being a smaller company and demand for these characters being relatively low. I certainly can't fault folks for not wanting to spend their money on an overpriced product with QC issues. It just doesn't give me much confidence in there being more waves if Popeye fans are hesitant to buy these figures. If a wave 4 doesn't get announced by the end of the year, I plan to make a custom Geezil from Wimpy and Alice from the generic Goon. Having those two will make my collection feel complete. By the way, thanks for posting great videos! I've watched several that are really interesting and informative.
Thank you so much. I'm devoting most of my time to another RUclips channel so the content on here has been very light the last couple of months but I'm still very passionate about figures. I do agree that the price is likely because BFS is a smaller company but my BFS videos are some of my most watched so Popeye clearly has a large fan base. I feel like a company such as Bandai or Figma could produce some absolutely killer Popeye figures but the thing is that the higher the quality the less they produce. For example, Hasbro can crank out dozens and dozens of average quality G.I. Joe figures but a high-end figure maker like Mezco will produce maybe a few a year. I'd buy a high-end Geezil or Roughhouse from Bandai in a heartbeat (something like $80 or more) but it's just not realistically going to happen. Thanks for the comments.
What's the name of the first Gundam figure?
That figure is Bandai Chogokin RX-93ff V Gundam. I bought it on a Black Friday sale from Kappa Hobby.
I really love learning stuff like this, because I've been immersing myself in comics along with comic culture and history over the last couple of years, and the depths of your knowledge about this stuff is impressive, and it makes your commentary all the more well-informed and interesting to hear. Your comment about how Gould "internalized police grievances" when he started working closely with the cops is beautifully phrased, and it reminds me of the problem I observed with so-called "embedded" journalists during the Iraq/Afghan wars. When a writer or artist, in an effort to get first-hand information for their work, "embeds" themselves with (or buddies-up to; tags along with; inserts themselves into the working environment of) their subjects, they often start to become part of those subjects' "In-Group" and consequently their partiality becomes heavily compromised...or really, obliterated. This leads to supposedly "impartial" war correspondents demonizing the conscripted 19-year-old enlisted soldiers on the other side of the concertina wire and lionizing the guys he's sharing meals with in a highly stressful situation....which fosters natural human bonding, of course. Maybe that happened with Gould? Did he go on ride-alongs with the police? Go out on patrol with them or walk the beat (back when that was still a thing)? I think you said elsewhere that he was always kind of leaning towards authoritarianism and going overboard with sympathy for abusive police behaviors, but it got worse as time progressed and he got older? Oh, and RE: the embedded-journalist/artist thing -- IIRC, the excellent Cameron Crowe movie "Almost Famous" addresses this problematic phenomenon in another journalistic milieu: rock n' roll journalism. The protagonist kid gets too close to his subjects and realizes he can't both be the FRIEND of his rock-group subjects and simultaneously report on them from a dispassionate, objective vantage point. It is a tough line to walk. Even so, the remark you cited in this video, the one made by the Dick Tracy Chief guy where he condones summary executions for alleged, SUPPOSED "criminals", that is inexcusable, no matter how warmly the boys in blue treated ol' Chester. I'll wrap this up in a minute, but that hard-line reactionary "screw DUE PROCESS -- just shoot 'wrongdoers' on sight! *BLAM, *BLAM, *BLAM*" attitude that you say is present in the later Dick Tracy strips, that stuff was bubbling up in the general zeitgeist of some quarters of America in that period anyhow (1950s and 1960s, I'm talkin'). And it fed into and led to the subsequent decades' popular cultural outputs like the "Death Wish" films, "Dirty Harry", scores of other films and TV shows like "TJ Hooker" -- the latter of which I revisited several years back and found it to be espousing exactly this kind of police violence as a SUPPOSED "solution" to the notional "tricky" defense lawyers" and a justice system that keeps on letting cops down by, like, respecting people's basic civil rights and honoring habeas corpus and not immediately shooting suspects to death and whatnot. Actually, there's a realllllly fascinating rabbit-hole that this issue leads to regarding the "Lead-Crime Hypothesis" and how it damaged the frontal lobes and other brainparts of nascent humanoids in the 20th-century and made them more...amenable to criminality, let's say. But obviously I've written too much already, so that will be a topic for another time. You probably know of it anyways. Great analysis and commentary on your part, tho, as usual!
Dang, I wrote this super long reply and then managed to delete it. I will write more later but I think you're 100% on the money with Gould and it was sad to see and his belief that cops were always right were not working in the tumoltuous 60s and 70s. I will write a much longer response later but I'm curious as to whether or not you ever read Judge Dredd.
And now i got another series of figures to collect. Thank god these arent craY expensive
You must absolutely love Street Fighter figures. I sold this one after I produced this video because I did not like this figure. Good luck in your collecting. I think there were only five created.
@davidswan5295 there are 8 in the series I think, and these are enough of an oddity that I think they're fun.
I totally get collecting weird, oddball things. I think I would have kept mine if I hadn't opened the package just as a possible investment. These would probably be the rarest Street Fighter figures.
@@davidswan5295 I am absolutely going to open mine. The revoltech stuff can do crazy things if you have an idea of what you're doing, so I'm excited. And they're not crazy expensive either so 🤷 Absolutely understand the frustration though.
@@liesureleeminis8268 I rewatched that old video and cringed because I was still holding the camera vertical back then and hadn't started using a fixed camera so I was attempting to manipulate the figure with one hand. Someone had told me that the Revoltech figures are much better than I gave them credit for and I just don't know how to move the joints but even with two hands I found them brutal. I would be interested in hearing how your collection progresses.
Nice review. Definitely also recommend checking out SH Figuarts 1:12 scale version of Indy. Best headsculpts in my opinion and also a great figure itself.
The Bandai figure looks really good and I certainly have my share of all plastic figures including many from Bandai but there is something special about Indy having a cloth outfit that really appeals to me. Indiana Jones has a rugged, weathered look that goes well with real cloth. I'd have to see the facial sculpts up close because I'm not sure which company did a better job. Thanks for the heads up.
I just got one myself. Very disappointed with all the QC issues. How are the shoulder joints on yours? Mine are completely floppy. Also, the material used for the cape is not vinyl like the rest of the figure. It's some sort of "foam-like" material. Did yours come with a sword "blade"? The promo shows an extra sword blade that can be switched out with the scabbard (both use the same sword hilt). Mine didn't come with that blade. 🤔
The QC issues are horrendous. The shoulders are floppy just like on yours. The cape on mine doesn't feel like foam at all. It feels like vinyl. Mine came with the one sword. In my video I said that it stood fine without the brace but now it can barely stand even with the brace and I had it leaning against a wall. I have no idea what changed so that it no longer stands properly because it doesn't appear to be the ankles. The one thing I'll say is that it looks damn impressive on a shelf so at least it has that going for it.
Like to see the other figures there also✔️
I did videos on all the Popeye figures from wave 1 and 2 but I haven't bought wave 3 because of past QC issues and because these figures always seem to go on discount. I will buy them when the reach a better price.
This is 65.99 on BBTS right now
It might be legit but I'd warn that Amazon is notorious for selling bootlegs. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
@@DCSilverAgeStorytime No, not Amazon! Big Bad Toy Store! 40% off for 65.99! Part of their holiday sale! 65.99 is a no-v brainer for me! 👍
Sorry about that. You specifically said BBTS. My mistake. Yes, that is a great price and if I didn't already have it I'd buy tht one in a heartbeat. Thanks for the info.
Mine the arm broke out of the box and the retailer is not doing anything to replace it. I find this figure actually very average. The shoulder piece can’t move. Very medicore
A broken figure would certainly sour me on it. Mine seems fine but I wont deny that the articulation is highly limited. On the shelf it looks spectacular. I had a Japanese retailer offer me a $10 coupon after a high end figure arrived with the box badly damaged (the figure was undamaged). I told the women not to bother since I wouldn't be buying from them again. Big Bad Toy Store has been super good about allowing me to return damaged figures although it only happened a couple of times.
Thanks
@@Sam-em8lm It really is an amazing figure. Any plans to get it?
This version of Nu Gundam is the alternative version that have gigantic Fukuoka cannon instead of Fin-Funnels.
I didn't know there were different versions. I got a bit lazy in my video and didn't show all the gimmicks.
Just got my mazinga yesterday!
Do you love it? Here is my biggest piece of advice. The plastic is soft. I am super careful with my figures but I went to pick it up and my fingernail left a small scratch in the figure which was SUPER disappointing. I'm used to figures with hard plastic
Is the godzilla next to mechagodzilla is godzilla 1991 shinjuku decisive battle ver ?
Probably, I tried to find the closest one I could to the 1993 Godzilla. I think the costumes were the same.
There was a sneak preview of Bandai’s next batch of jumbo figures and it looks like Grandizer, Reideen and Mach Baron are coming soon.
Mach Baron will probably be a pass for me since I literally have never heard of the character but Grandazier and Raideen are definite buys. Thank you for the info
Good review 👍
Thank you
I like these, and the mezco are great. But just got the mezco 1/12 now hunting for the deluxe can white suit
I chose not to preorder the wave 3 of Boss Fight Studios Popeye because of QC issues in wave 2 and because they seem to always get discounted eventually. I actually have two Mezco Popeye figures since I owned one and the only way to get Bluto was to buy a second one but I don't have him in his navy whites. It looks nice but I really don't need a third Mezco Popeye.
Adams didnt have a falling out with O'Neil. The title was near the end of its run trying to cling on for last minute sales bump. Since it was in this situation they had nothing to lose by doing the stories with social issues. When the book was cancelled it didnt come back for a few years . Denny came back but wasnt thinking like that anymore with social or left wing stance. Adams moved on to other things. Hence Mike Grell was drawing the comic on its return. I didnt mind this comic run. You never saw comics go like this on the down to earth situations and issues. Adams art was photo realistic at the time. No one was like him then. Sure theres gonna be over exaggerated art or panels. Its a comic book.
Obviously I cherry picked to find the humorous images. Neal Adams was definitely ground breaking and a legend in the business. I don't remember where I heard that Adams and O'Neil had a falling out or maybe my mind is going and I just imagined I read it.
Its pronounced as DEE NA MES. Not DIE NAMES :D

Excellent and thoughtful review! I went to Amazon to read your full essay but couldn't find it. This omnibus is being reprinted and released Nov. 5, 2024 and I preordered a copy blindly knowing it's an iconic run. But yikes, wished I saw your review earlier and saved my $85.04 (SRP is a whopping $125). I didn't realize it was previously published, and with a much cooler cover. I was born in '67 and started reading comics in '75, so missed these issues. I long thought Neal Adams was overrated, but his later stuff like Ms. Mystic is what I had to go on. Since then I've read his X-Men and Avengers runs and he can be great, quirks aside, as you noted! I know O'Neil had a celebrated Batman run and was Frank Miller's editor on Daredevil early on. Sad to hear how his life imploded under the weight of success. Mike Grell may be the later collaborator you mentioned, an Adams clone, at least in the beginning. I hope this deserving video gets more traffic with the upcoming rerelease.
Thank you so much. Actually, all my reviews were removed by Amazon and I've been banned from reviewing permanently for breaking community standards. They told me I broke community standards (I never have) but never told me what I did or in what review out of thousands. Since I didn't correct whatever review they were complaining about because I couldn't, they banned me. I never use profanity or anything close to offensive language so my assumption is an automated bot flagged me. I probably wrote a review of Dick Tracy and got flagged for offensive language.
I honestly thought O'Neil's writing on Green Arrow was terrible.
Th😢 dumbest looking toho robot design. They should have used a boz with a penguin robot head . Or poop 💩
I'll just say this. Regardless of the original design, Bandai did a magnificent job of recreating it in figure form and although I doubt I'll ever fall in love with the look of MOGUERA, I've grown to appreciate it more than I did.
What a stunning version.👍
It's so much better than my OTHER Great General of Darkness figure which was kind of a disaster.
This is the best getter robo imo.
@@ironfist9976 I think I would agree

GvSG M.O.G.U.E.R.A. can dig by splitting himself in half with his upper body transforming into the Land Moguera drill tank, while his lower body becomes the Star Falcon fighter
I generally watch the movie associated with figure prior to discussing it but I actually watched it twice when the Space Godzilla figure came out, which was awhile ago and I didn't feel like watching it a third time. I confess that I forgot a lot including the separation of MOGUERA. It is intersting that the figure features no separation.
Have you tried to soften the pecks on the cape by a hair drier to allow you to snap the cape onto the back?
I'd be worried that once the pegs cool down they'd either be impossible to remove or would break if I remove them. However, when I went to display the figure on my shelf I did manage to get the cape attached with a bit more force. I even removed one and put it back in just to make sure I could. I just feel that the amount of force needed is a lot more than should be necessary.
Good to see that you are still in the game
Thank you so much. At this point this channel is only discussing figures and nothing else. I still have my other channel which is where I'm devoting most of my time. My passion for figure collecting hasn't diminished but I decided not to do any more videos on this channel related to other things like movies and comics and whatnot so obviously my volume of content has diminished significantly.

It does seem to be higher quality, particularly in the paint job. I compared it to my original Shogun Warrior and this new one was clearly better.

I have 3 of them and so far they still holding up pretty good against the elements! And what I mean about elements! Room air temperature and where you showcase your figures! My room is always cooler and away from the window or the sun. Plus I gently cleaned mine with 303 protectant spray bottle. And like I said before the rubber still holding up and is shinier! There’s not a sign of tears on the body. Ps. By the way! The cape on mine I cut the front of the holding base, and used a small paper stapler “c” clip and fitted it on the holes where I cut on the front and locked it into the base of the body! And it fits perfectly without a gap!
You have 3 Batman 1989? I also have the Alien figure which uses the same material although it's a bit more shiny. I think even if the figures don't get damaged over time I'm still not a huge fan of the materials. The Batman in particular just feels weird in my hands.
For what it's worth, I like both of your channels. Your content fits my interests and your personality is relaxed compared to a lot of enthusiast channels. Plus, you're the only one really covering these types of figures consistently. Keep up the good work in the way that works best for you!
Thank you so much. I do try and stay mellow and not put on fake excitement. Hopefully I'll have some more figures coming soon. My main effort is on my other channel but when I get figures I always produce at least one video.
Beautiful! 😍🤖🇯🇵! Indeed, this design was obviously first released by Popy in Japan, as far as i know another company called “Lafredo” released the same figure in the 70’s in Spain 👍
I produced 3 videos on this figure and after I was done I went to put it on the shelf and my thumbnail actually produced a small scratch on it. It's really disappointing but it is a cautionary tale because this is not strong plastic. Be really really careful because even something as soft as a thumbnail can scratch it.
@@davidswan5295 Thanks for the advice! I🤖🇯🇵👍🚀
I've been wanting a screen accurate jet Jaguar since I was a kid. I'm a huge fan. I might have to get this one. But the asking $ is kinda steep 😕❤😂
It's 11,000 yen on Bandai or around $77 USD so that's probably the bottom price you're likely to find. It was $86 on Hobby Kappa but it's sold out now. It's $95 on Amazon. Everything on Ebay looks over $100. I wont deny that it's pricy for a 1:12 all plastic figure but Bandai does have high quality.
Fo 65$ it's a steal.😂❤👽
It's unfortunately sold out now on BBTS but they do have the concept version for 38% off. I'm glad I snatched up the one I got.

Thank you for the video. I do like the size, but I agree that it should be a much higher quality product for this much money. I would like to get a set of my favorite giant 70's anime giant super robots in either this huge scale or around 12 inch if possible and I am not even sure where to start. There are so many! I saw they made a few like this Gaiking and a Mazinger earlier this year. This is making want to wait and see how it turns out before I spend this much on it.
You should check out Bandai's Jumbo Machinder line. This is a new line based on the old Machinder/Shogun Warrior figures from the 70s.
@@davidswan5295 Thank you for your suggestion. I really appreciate it. But I want ones comparable to the one in your video with more articulation. I am willing to pay for them if or when they exist.
Evolution Toys is the one company that comes to mind with the larger articulated figures but I got away from them because I felt they were overpriced. They problem with the large articulated figures is the joints can be floppy just from the weight and size of the figure. There is a Mazinkaiser from Blitzway coming soon that's listed as 15.07 inches although that may include the wings in the height. That one will be beautifully articulated without a doubt.
