      He has an AC of 21, with the spell shield of faith and the shield spell he can get to 28. witch is a lot, like, a lot lot. And the cloak of displacement make the enemy attack with disadvantage against him, so this cleric is pretty much unhittable lol. Imagine this in a Paladin

  • @RogueLG
    @RogueLG 21 день назад

    I do flanking but rather than advantage I give +2 to attack rolls, but still count it as advantage for sneak attack for rogues

    • @kitsuneursavision1988
      @kitsuneursavision1988 21 день назад

      I do the same as +2 for flanking but for the advatnage on sneak attack, you don't really need to do that. Rules state that a rogue needs Advantage or have an alley(or have a creature that the enemy considers an enemy if you want to go RAW) within 5 feet of an enemy. So a rouge who uses a bow that shoots an enemy with alley 5 feet of that enemy still procs sneak attack.

    I removed theAction, Bonus Action, Movement, Free object interaction, and Dialogue during combat I made it to were each party member just has 3 actuons during combat If you want to move 60 feet and attach a monster you can or just attack 3 times in a rom you can The down side is if you do the same thing an another action in your turn you loose and action your next turn from exhaustion Exp. Fighter moves 60feet and attacks, well he exhausted himself from moving with super human speeds he looses a action his next turn to catch his breath while still being able to fight

    I added that each player gets one inspiration at the start of every session. They can earn additional in sessions but they're not kept at the of play. Really got my player wanting to spend and earn inspiration. And was less strain on me remembering to give inspiration. Also inspiration is spent as a reroll after a dice result. Can think of not having it now.

    The only part that gets me is they announced they are removing all the 5e spells from dnd beyond. They told us all the new would work with the old and for someone like me who only started dming a year ago it's upsetting to feel like I finally have a grasp on all the tiny rules and flavor text of these spells but now their being changed forcefully. I am still very excited for what they're doing with druid/paladin and to look at all the new resources that we previously didn't have but to remove the spells from dnd Beyond seems like the wrong direction imo

  • @haydenwinslow319

    Right?! Worse comes to worse, we’ll just stick to 5e. Once they come out though, I’ll try a few campaigns with them and discuss it with friends and decide if they’re worth sticking to

    1/3 movement speed, remove bonus action, holding breath = minutes equal to con modifier, lightning spells aoe is doubled or can conduct for equal effect to all creatures within 5/10 feet depending upon level, fire spells half aoe but explosive spells more damage due to force dmg. Depends on context and player lv though. 👍

    running a campaign with water combat, i would set up currents that players could use to advantage/disadvantage that would double/ half movement speed, magical fire does half damage as its snuffed out and lighting has a chance to be conducted through the water hitting another target.

    in _depth,_ you say?

  • @phantomintention7337
    @phantomintention7337 2 месяца назад

    If you wanted to keep it simple maybe try adding the slowed condition from the slow spell. “An affected target's speed is halved, it takes a −2 penalty to AC and Dexterity saving throws, and it can't use reactions. On its turn, it can use either an action or a bonus action, not both. Regardless of the creature's abilities or magic items, it can't make more than one melee or ranged attack during its turn. If the creature attempts to cast a spell with a casting time of 1 action, roll a d20. On an 11 or higher, the spell doesn't take effect until the creature's next turn, and the creature must use its action on that turn to complete the spell. If it can't, the spell is wasted.” To give underwater races a boon you could always forgo the above debuffs, or increase/decrease certain attributes for everyone else (Such as a higher ac negative).

  • @druid_zephyrus
    @druid_zephyrus 2 месяца назад

    Ive never needed an outside source. If both sets of combatants have no swim speed, then there are rules for movement underwater. Magic is still magic and still acts how it is supposed to, aka fireball still casts underwater and lightning bolt does not dissapate throughout all the water. Weapon attacks have a RAW too. Breathing/holding breath underwater has RAW. It feels difficult for the players because fighting underwater without the training to do so would be difficult. Its supposed to be an alien combat to land dwelling adventurers, the same as land combat would be for water dwelling entities. It sucks to be a ranged weapon user underwater. Because it does. Just like irl if you make a fishing bow, you cannot aim at the fish you see under the water; you have to aim infront of where you see them because of refraction. As you are cutting through a denser medium than air when underwater, so weapons are difficult to use. You dont need a fancy remake of the RAW to make it easier for your players.

    I remember a Dragon magazine article or maybe it was something on Dragon's Foot that described different varieties of Halfling 'pipe weed' that temporarily increased one stat while reducing another, like a temporary +1 in constitution with a -1 to dexterity. Could work with wisdom/strength or strength/intelligence, you get the idea.

    Instant death is incredibly annoying, i avoid them like the plague. Losing your character instantly does not feel good, dying usually doesn't of cause but you can accept the gradual decline of HP easy. It's easy to accept a character death when you can see why you died, I shouldn't have charged that group, should've focused down the small ones first, fought more defensively after reaching half hp. But when it comes instantly through a single failed save or one massive crit, it sucks. We all like the dice to vary and spice up the game and story, but a characters fate should not hang on a single dice roll (might work in certain campaigns or one-shots). Usually when I introduce instant death mechanics for my players I would warn them well before and make sure there is a counter on hand. "The orb of dark energy is building up power faster and faster, it's plain to see it will overload and burst in but a moment" the players know that thing is dangerous and they need to do something, dispel, distance, line of sight or something else. "The giant stares daggers at Lyos, it's singled you out and with axe held high and muscles bulging, it is coming for you" lets the players know that the giant is taking priority and Lyos needs protection, NOW. Or I'll let the players hear rumors beforehand of what the big monster is gonna be and how to counter it. Like people being dissolved in acid and somebody saw a dragon shaped creature flying off. Players know to ready for acid damage and they can formulate a plan to deal with a dragon. The way i see it, we're all there to experience a cool story and do cool shit, instantly dying is generally neither. But surviving a massive explosion because the cleric cast wall of stone to provide cover, that is cool. The fighter raising his shield and getting in the way of the charging giant coming straight for Lyos, that shit's awesome. The warlock dying because he rolled a 7 on his fortitude at an bad time, will never be mentioned in a positive light.

    Oh, definitely. It's even the basis of a horror arc where those that have used it before did so for forced marching nonstop. But down the line, those that took the drug ended up mutating the user and leading to a hideous transformation both physically and mentally. The players run into these creatures, have to slay them in a long ravaged and desolate village, and then find the drug as loot... And it allowing PCs to get to destinations practically twice as quickly is a godsend in the lands they are in... Risk transforming into a hideous beast? Or risk the hideous beasts of the land already there to fall apon you mid travel?

    Hold the phone. Read the players handbook? Nobody does that! We jump into the game with the barest surface knowledge about the rules. Then we're told by the other players (who also haven't read the damn rules, but were in our situation once upon a time), how things work. We then go on for months or even years playing by the these rules, until one day when Dave wants to do something only he think is clever, we look up that specific rule. Because choking a hydra to avoid cutting off the heads, is not really something that comes up very often. We then read the actual rules for how grapple works, say "oh, seems it actually works like this..", does it correctly exactly 6 times before the finer points of the rules is once more lost in the ether and we revert to what's "probably right". I swear, by my 20years of d&d, never have I met anyone who sat down and read the damn handbook from cover to cover. We've all just read bits and pieces as it's come up but otherwise rely on what others have told us. (Except for classes, feats and spells, we know those in excruciating detail)

    Love your content sir but in the future context is everything! Is this a one shot wtc. Pretty much what everyone else is saying. If it's a one shot, sure. Who cares! If the players were warned ahead of time and knew fighting the mushroom ray fungal lord likely would result in death also fine with the reservation that I as a DM would make it so more fails would have to happen before a PERMANENT death, or would alow revivify after. Deaths of characters are not to be done lightly unless the context of the game itself calls for such.

    I am a DM for more than six years now and there are some of those mechanics like the beholder and his deathray. I just use those mechanics in Groups of experienced players. With newbies I will use it but not for insta death, they can do death saving throws. But your Players have to learn how difficult and dangerous the world can be. All of Faerun could work without them and they have to get stronger, smarter and better. If you manage that, then the experience of playing and battling in D&D will become just an awesome Adventure.

    Are you giving your players the ability to insta kill enemies without using a work around? If not, this situation isn’t fair and is generally viewed as hostile dm behavior. All of that gets thrown out the window if you’ve had a conversation with your players about this kind of thing happening and they all agree. In the game I’m a player in, some of us don’t like character death and having to make a new character, so we don’t die (just knocked unconscious) or there are ample and convenient ways to resurrect without terrible consequences. As long as everyone at the table comes to an agreement on how things should work in your game, anything goes, but consent is key.

  • @sphinx1843

    Depends on the tone you've set and how the PCs play. If they know nothing is sacred nor holy, then yea, shouldve seen this coming. A bit harsh, and I probably wouldve ruled that they could get 1 round of death saves (yes, one round, everyone has to drop everything to try and save them if they dont have something like Save The Dying, which I think is a stupid spell as it is, but thats another topic in itself). Overall, if it makes sense for whatever scenario you and the players have crafted, then sure, I guess it fine Honestly, Insta-death and stun lock mechanics are rarely ever fun unless you know the party has something to revive/free them, or dying is a major theme of your campaign (cursed with immortality kind of thing). Otherwise, do what will make the game fun or more fun in the future. After all, isn't that the point of playing DnD?

  • @peteruud1
    @peteruud1 2 месяца назад

    If discussed before hand that this could happen, then it is fine.

  • @Kosmokraton
    @Kosmokraton 2 месяца назад

    Mostly, it depends on two things: (a) Was there enough warning that it could happen? (b) Is that the tone of the game you're playing? It seems like you might be fishing for people to say this is bad DMing, but there's not enough info to decide here. (Note: you say this was his first damage, but that sounds a bit misleading, because you also mention he's already been given a condition by the monster. So it may be the first damage, but it wasn't truly "instant". It was at least the second effectual interaction.)

    • @CreativityNull
      @CreativityNull 2 месяца назад

      And there might have been things other players could have done too. A bard could have done bardic inspiration. A cleric could have cast bless. A divination wizard could have replaced the roll for the save with a better one, or a chronoturgy wizard could have made them reroll the failed save. While these options may not have been available, there are things that can deal with things like this. I will say, if you're going to throw instant death spells, you probably want to make sure the party has at least some way of potentially dealing with it beyond just making the save.

    • @Kosmokraton
      @Kosmokraton 2 месяца назад

      @CreativityNull Very true. My first ever character death happened when the other players decided not to help me from a condition that was escalating on my character. Their reasoning was "it probably won't be that bad" and they just ignored it, and it killed me over something like five rounds. We (and the DM) were really new at the game, so the DM didn't really know how he should be signaling better, but also we as players made some (retrospectively stupid) assumptions. Yes, technically at the end I suffered an "instant" death. But it was hardly unavoidable. We just didn't avoid it. Some fault with the DM, more fault with us players.

  • @CreativityNull
    @CreativityNull 2 месяца назад

    Haven't DMed before, but I've done a lot of strategy formulating with my friend for his games where he does DM, and I've done a lot of looking into being a DM, but haven't had the opportunity to do it. I have been a player in lots of games though. The answer is, it depends on several factors. The DM should never be actually trying to kill the players (though, not trying to keep them alive either, and there is an exception to this as well I'll cover later). If the party is at higher levels where you're able to get access to the 7th level spell named "Ressurection," either by having enough gold to get someone else to cast it, or by being able to cast the spell themselves, then it is fine. It's annoying for that combat encounter to be a man down, and you now have a player who is going to be just sitting there bored, but it's at least not permanent. If the players and DM are all veterans of the game and agreed they wanted a challenge, the DM is clear to pull out all of the stops. This is the only time it is okay for a DM to intentionally try to kill the players, within the rules of course, and still giving them a chance to win (like, don't pull a Terrasque on a low level party). In my opinion, instant death abilities that give you no options aren't that fun. I personally prefer permanent debilitations that can make roleplaying and working around them more interesting, then can be fixed with higher level restoration spells. You can even make finding a fix to the debilitation a side quest, or tie it into the main quest somehow. Using instant death spells for anything other than major encounters and plot development feels cheap to me personally. While player character death does happen, it shouldn't make the whole endeavor feel pointless, unless that's the atmosphere of the campaign (think something along the lines of a dark souls theme or being a normal human in warhammer 40k.) EDIT: forgot to say, if your circumstances don't match any of the above, it doesn't necessarily mean that the DM was "trying" to kill the players. The DM may have just made a mistake and used a creature that they probably shouldn't have, or they may have done a campaign made by Wizards of the Coast which seem to have some ridiculously difficult challenges at early levels for some reason. Just talk to the DM about it. If they're not receptive, or are unable to change their mind or your mind about this, then it may be that you shouldn't be playing together (not saying who is wrong because I don't know the details of the circumstance)
