    The main problem with homemade laundry "detergent" is that the oils in the soap begin to build up on your laundry after some time which make them dingy and water-resistant. If you are going to make your own laundry soap it's best to alternate between that and actual detergent. Detergent will break down the oils from the soap.

    • @FrankGutowski-ls8jt
      @FrankGutowski-ls8jt Год назад

      Chemistry: There are no oils involved. What you refer to is soap scum, which forms when soaps are dissolved in water containing magnesium, calcium and other hard water contaminants.

    Are the Fels Naphtha bar and the Zote bar the same size? Shouldn't you measure how much soap you need in the washing soap? BTW, soap is not detergent. If you have sensitive skin, maybe you ought to use Castile soap

    Miss Sola - funny, I Googled 'canning pickles disaster' and your video came up, lol. May I ask - one year later - how they turned out? Last week I made Christmas jam (perfect) but also decided to do some sweet and spicy dill pickles. I soaked the cukes in ice water and also used pickle crisp 'just in case.' I got curious a week later, opened a jar and... 🤮 The pickles were limp and mushy to the touch. My only true canning disaster other than the time I nearly burned down the kitchen making Marmalade that boiled over. Any tips or other pickling recipes? Please post!

    • @MissSola
      @MissSola 2 года назад

      Hey Genny! Well, actually my pickles came out better than expected. Unfortunately, the jars that I opened months later didn't. I have yet to find something that'll keep them from becoming limp. Next year I'm going to try soaking my cucumbers in salt water brine and put them in the fridge overnight before preparing them for canning.

    Thank you for sharing. I appreciate your clear instructions, especially the amounts you used of the ingredients. I made my first jelly yesterday (raspberry/blueberry), and after procesing the fruit, I ended up with 5 cups of juice. I used my limited math skills to add 6 and 1/2 cups sugar, 6 Tbsp pectin, and 1 Tbsp lemon juice. I was like you - I had a half-jar and all if did was float in the canner.so I left it out overnight and will try it on toast for breakfast. Thanks again!
