Great number! The tune/song was composed in 1916 and was popular then and in the 1920s. In the USA it was popularised by Al Jolson. The version that I know best via my collection of 78rpm discs, is by Bert Ralton and his Havana Band (of known as the Savoy Havana Band due to their being the main dance band in the early 1920s). This version was titled Bert Ralton's Maori Hula Medley" in which he segues from the Yaaka Hula song to Pokarekareana, recorded in 1926. Ralton, then the most popular jazz-dance bandleader in UK (and the Empire) travelled to Australia where he played a residency there to great public acclaim and then in 1924-25 he came to New Zealand which explains the "Maori Hula Medley". Sorry about this elngthy digression but I do love Ralton's amended version!

What a lovely rendition of the 1920s song. I have a version by Jack Ralton's Savoy Havana Band where he sings toward the end of the song and includes local Maori words toward the end of the recording. Ralton visited NZ in the summer of 1924-25 and was very well received. Sadly he died of a shooting incident in Africa a couple of years later.

C'est très typique du sud américain. Sous des allures simples, c'est un groupe de musiciens tous remarquables. Songez qu'ils se produisent souvent sans sono ni micro. La pilote du groupe, Shaye dirige, sans qu'on s'en aperçoive, cette joyeuse bande ! ..... clin d’œil du Québec

Musiciens figés ? Pourtant exceptionnels, tellement relax ! Des pros qu'il est extrêmement rare de voir. Ils se produisent dans les rues du sud des USA, super simplement, souvent sans micro. Erika est une chanteuse typique et qui a un sens incroyable du groove.mais personne ne soupçonne en France le leadership unique de Shayne, la trompettiste remarquable. Clin d’œil du Québec !!

Les français ne se rendent pas compte de la chance qu'ils ont eu de recevoir cet incroyable "band" . Deux filles géniales dont la pilote Shaye, une exceptionnelle trompettiste et leader de groupe. Sans micro ni sono ils se produisent souvent si simplement dans les rues. .... clin d'oeil depuis le Québec, loin de la chaude et sympa Nouvelle Orleans !!!

This takes me back to my schooldays on the 1940's when I first listened to New Orleans music. It was wartime and it gave me a feeling that others had suffered and so this music was born. Could we persuade this group of musicians to visit the UK?
