@@whateverthefuck2 the last time I saw an A1 in service was nigh on 15 years ago when Cadets were using them for training and these rifles were manually operated (the bolt didn't cycle round automatically). The A1 hasn't been in use with any military branch since the A2 redesign. The A3 is already being rolled out. The Royal Marines are already changing to the Canadian C8.
That guy's range safety was shite. Obviously he hasn't been taught the forward assist and then he starts waving it around his head with the mag in trying to shake a loose round out.

Just checking xD We're not proud of the L85. It's been painful. But we stand behind it's accuracy. We also stand behind our men. Quality is something we do. Guess you lot aren't trained to do much gear care and maintainance..... That's true. Js. #Murika
Air burst guns are too ahead of our civilization's level in fact. This is just the clever one that is appropriate and practical in today's situation. It does the job much better than iron sight grenade launchers, and is still very simple to be installed on existing weapons. We are not quite ready for air burst guns equipped with high tech computer fire control system, and FN figured out a practical solution that will take charge of next few decades until the future century. And FN was the only one who came out of this realistic solution that fits today's financial and technological level. It will lengthen the life of 40mm grenade launcher by one more generation time. Militaries always love such ideas. Very clever.
Still crap, for me at least, because I'm left-handed. Yeah yeah yeah, I knew all about the "There are no lefties in the British Army" thing. At least other bullpup rifle have option to switch the eject port for left-handed users. Even if you wouldn't mind the hot ejecting brass hitting your face, the moving cocking handle of L85 is too far back that it can smash your jaw if you use it left-handed.
don't get me wrong I would love to have m4 or something like that yes the sa80 is heavy but it's very accurate and is a very good rifle and the new a3 what's out next year is gonna be even better we have 1 of the best sights in the world on the sa80 same one US special forces use
I've fired an AR15 and an SA80. The AR15 feels awkward, is a pain in the dick to cock, and feels weird as fuck trying to load in the magazine. The SA80 has a better balance, feels easier to use, and is more accurate.
look at this penis trying to fit the mag clearly too weak to just push it in firmly, dislodging rounds by slapping Base of mag. also is the l85a1 the a2 is far more reliable
So I just looked at your profile. Ok you think you have more of an authority of knowledge on the SA80 platform? what did you drop out of secondary school to join the army?
Most dets have a couple of the A2 DPs lying around, and at least in my coy the shooting weekends are pretty common, Lambda. We don't use the Lee Enfields as the standard cadet rifle any more, A2s aren't just annual camp stuff.
Honestly, I don't care what the cadets do. I'm sure it's great, and its a good idea, but what I don't appreciate is some walty cadet taking the piss out of someone who actually serves. Nothing on you. Nice username by the way.
RandomStuff by exploding in your hands you mean? The first M16s were just as shit as the first L85 the L85A3 is just as good as the M16A4, and the L85A4 will be better
The M4 doesn't shoot far enough, for the same length as an A2. The M16A4 is stupidly long, and still isn't as accurate, while not having full auto capability. The A2 is shorter, more accurate, and in my experiences, easier to use than the AR15.
It's a fine rifle, just kind of on the expensive side and the ergonomics don't seem to be fantastic. Every rifle has teething problems even the Tavor that everybody is in love with was withdrawn from service at one time because of poor performance and the highly vaunted H&K 416 turns into a jamtastic if you don't use new H&K magazines.
Joseph Legacy Errrr or not. They re-worked alot of the internal parts, they didnt "elongate" the charging they changed it completely. Oh and the scope isn't intergrated into the rifle, you can put whatever sight you want on it. The A2 is a massive improvment to the A1.
The L85 is basically going through the same process as the M16. To begin with it was possibly the worst weapon of its time, but now it's been upgraded it's finally getting somewhere. One or two more iterations and perhaps the SA80A3 or A4 will be as desireable as the current american M16/M4 weapons. And the main problem these guys are having with the A1 is that they're firing on full auto (or "repetition" as it's labelled on the weapon), the A1 was less crap when fired semi-auto. Still crap though.
Nicole Woodruff Actually the problems with the M16 were caused by the pressure of the issued ammunition greatly exceeding what the rifles had been designed to fire which caused excessive wear on the components and lead to the gun outrunning the magazine. If you're interested there is an interview with Jim Sullivan, one of the main engineers behind the AR-15, and his version of the story: www.full30.com/video/9b50f8a825ab510b4c227c7b32a76bc1
+Woodruff Basically, Wood, during the Cold War, the British Army was going to be defending Northern Europe, so rifles were designed to work in the cold. Either using them in the desert was overlooked or undertested, but they worked in the Arctic, so it wasn't until they were actually used in Iraq that they were really exposed as a piece of shite. IMO moving away from the SLR was a mistake, but then the Americans insisted on a calibre change, so there you have it, the Americans caused the SA80 to be made.
just to give everyone the heads up, these are A1 rifles which were not the best. the ones in use today are A2 rifles which were handed to HK to sort out all of its problems. people saying the l85 is shit need there heads testing. all of the armed forces personnel whom have used the A2 IT HAS NEVER LET THEM DOWN. personal opinion, id much rather have the A2 of an AR15 platform.
+Cameron Montrose (CamJam-M) I don't know about that. The M16/M4 platform does have several advantages over ever the L85A2. For starters it has a better trigger pull. Bullpups inherently have a far longer trigger pull than other rifles due to the connecting rode between the bolt and the trigger group. Also the M16/M4 is far more versatile a weapon system due to the sheer number of after market parts available. Hell you can re-chamber any lower receiver for dozens of different cartridges and barrel lengths in under a minute just by changing the upper receiver and the magazine. Also there are the countless other modifications specifically meant for the platform due to it's popularity and usage by over 30 countries. Not to mention the overwhelming popularity of the new HK416 thanks to it's usage by Delta Force and other Special Forces the world over. And then there is the matter that the SAS and SBS use the Canadian C8 which is basically just an M4 with a different barrel. Also there is the matter that depending on the model the rifle is also lighter than the L85. Which is actually VERY heavy for a 5.56 rifle. At that weight you might as well chamber the thing in 7.62 for the weight you are dealing with. And the charing handle is easier to manipulate on the M16/M4 for clearing jams which are rare even with DI guns.
+Hyaku Dojo A1 was a right dog. Bolt and carrier made at different factories and often did not fit correctly. Mag lips were weak and if dropped often would not feed. Cast bayonet was weak. Safety catch used to break under strong trigger pressure. (plastic I believe). Mag fell out in use. Over tempered springs broke. Receiver finished off in the vice to make it fit. Piece of bent metal junk anyway. At least one case of a breech cracking. I was told this and more by an armourer. Then to the rescue!!!! We spent £93 million with H&K to sort the thing out. It is much better now I believe but you cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear. When the SA 80 was thrown on the floor of the test room. We were told "did you know that you have a gun that goes off when you drop it" Bless my soul. Good grief!!!. Why did we not buy the M16 ?. It is a very good rifle and in 5.56 as well. It has been used all over the place with good reports and to good effect and it s well liked. In conclusion, why do we, the British try to defend all this. In action I would sooner have a rattly old AK 47 !!. Even a Chinese one that goes Clank, Clank, Bang. It does not jam and can be relied upon everything but pinpoint accuracy which is poor. That was my experience many years ago at the range. Well, at least the SA80 should now be battle worthy . I sure hope so.
+Samuel Neese Why do you need to rechamber a military rifle? It's made in 5.56, which while is slightly underpowered IMO, but it's NATO standard. Why do you need to change barrel length when it's already short, and can hit targets at 400m? The UKSF use the C8 for weight and noise reasons. For an infantryman, the SA80's weight is fine, but obviously for the SAS they'd want something lighter. As for 7.62, we did have a 7.62 SLR until the Americans decided to change the NATO calibre again.
I know everyone thinks that full auto is what everyone uses during a firefight but semi is best! Controlled, accurate, percise follow up shots conserving ammo and staying behind cover focusing on making ones self smaller and never forgetting praying for everyone having a relationship with Jesus
