An amazing piece of work. While I personally prefer something a bit more traditional with polished steel in a fine piece of wood, I can certainly appreciate the spectacular craftsmanship that went into this rifle.

In the 1950s I went to boarding school in Nainital, in the Kumaon district, where Jim Corbett lived and hunted man eating tigers and leopards. He was a living legend and his book Maneaters of Kumaon was required reading at the school, and a great pleasure. He described tigers as gentlemen, and was himself a gentleman, loved by the common man in an age where the British treated us Indians with disdain. The British shot tigers like partridges, one complaining that they only got 6 that day, compared to 9 the previous day. I must say, though, it was soon after independence when all the school teachers were British, and they were very humane and good teachers.

Man-Eaters of Kumaon is a 1944 book written by hunter-naturalist Jim Corbett.[1] It details the experiences that Corbett had in the Kumaon region of India from the 1900s to the 1930s, while hunting man-eating Bengal tigers[2] and Indian leopards.[3] One tiger, for example, was responsible for over 400 human deaths. Man-Eaters of Kumaon is the best known of Corbett's books, and contains 10 stories of tracking and shooting man-eaters in the Indian Himalayas during the early years of the twentieth century. The text also contains incidental information on flora, fauna and village life. Seven of the stories were first published privately as Jungle Stories. The Champawat Tiger was a man-eating tigress which purportedly killed some 200 men and women before being driven out of Nepal. She moved to Champawat district in the state of Uttarakhand in North India, and continued to kill, bringing her total human kills up to 436. She was finally tracked down and killed in 1907.[13] She was known to enter villages, even during daylight, roaring and causing people to flee in panic to their huts.

Unfortunately, Rigby is not what it once was and they have made a rifle in this "Corbett" rifle that Jim Corbett wouldn't be seen dead carrying. Its of the world of Montblanc limitless limited edition fountain pens and gazillion dollar Rolls Royce that tend to make one think of an old Checker taxi cab. Some rich Texan or Brit who never set foot in a tigered jungle will hang it with pride on their expensive walls. Ask whatever price you wish, but Rigby's heritage is tied to no-nonsense, bulletproof rifles that exude a quiet elegance, not this fancy pants drek. Ehhhh..... J. C.

two questions for buzz, thinking long term, say 20, 30 years from now, how will you keep the Dande area "wild" if you have 5000 people which surely is also a growing population? Secondly, if you clear up all snares in your area, is anything at all done on the Mozambique side, so that wildlife numbers in the greater area increase?

The legacy of the legendary hunter, so many things an item could witness, if a gun could talk, it would speak of it's previous owners glorious journey, may it be a sniper nicknamed the white death or a hunter who hunted monsters, monsters that brought fear and dread to people, monsters that were binded on their own nature, monsters who's in pain and illness, honoured to die at the hands of a legend, a glorious death for a glorious creature, both wonderful and terrifying.

Greetings from Australia...nice vid and all but I have to ask...in SO many stalking vids I see one rifle shared amongst a group of people...why? Here in Oz there would be as much chance of sharing your rifle as sharing your wife / husband / girlfriend / boyfriend! Surely these people are not so clumsy / stupid that they can't be trusted to bring along and use their own firearm? I know that this showcases the release of a new rifle but all these stalking vids are the same...one bloke carrying the rifle and handing over to the shooter when the time comes to let a round go. Not sure what anyone else thinks but to me it's a bit insulting really.
