      Hi Ben, That's the reason for posting footage of historic events. When most people report on golf croquet finals, they just say how well the finalists played. We have had reports for 20 years that Egyptians run hoops from the boundary all the time, but the fact is that they don't. Consistency has now allowed NZ to win back-to-back World Team Championships. Hopefully the footage I have provided shows that you can be competitive if you play the easy shots well.

    • @kruncher89
      @kruncher89 4 года назад

      Hi John, The exact ratio you obtain will depend upon your mallet weight and type of end faces. How heavy is your mallet and what type? The key is to obtain consistent stop shots, but it should be possible for everyone to achieve at least 4:1 and probably 5:1. Those with very light mallets will potentially achieve 9:1 on a fast lawn.

    This game has got to 6-5. By that I have to assume both players are of near equal skill. If the shot you are proposing is to be successful then red must have a reasonable level of skill. Probably I’m guessing in the 3 down region...but so has blue. Ok, here we go. Black plays to just over the halfway line as near to the centre peg as practicable. Should be able to roll it just to the left (looking from 11 down to 12) maybe a ball width out and half metre down and is now effectively in the triangle of danger. By doing this black’s leave blue a shot either at the hoop or red. At this level of skill running the hoop is quite possible however roqueting red is the preferred shot because it’s a bigger target, and blue at this skill level should be able to roquet red away. In your scenario to be able to hit red accurately enough to send black to the eastern boundary and red to the northern boundary would be a shot worthy of Reg Bamford. The temptation to run 12 for red I believe would be too much. At least red has taken the game to 13. Hopefully for red, blue will opt for safety and go to the northern boundary, but I reckon at this level blue will roll black into a nice spot between the boundary and the hoop and at such an angle near wiring any attempt by red to roquet it away. As you describe the tactic could work however I suggest that red needs to be further out from the hoop and be able to hit black fatter. But I’m betting blue will roquet red away or worst still run the hoop which I suggest would be easier than red hitting the black just so that what you describe transpires. If you are 6-5 then the only way that you can lose is if you muck up the run to 13 or red plays a freaky shot through 13s back door. As for blue getting up to 13, if red can peel off of black and do it, then blue can peel off of yellow and do the same.

    • @kruncher89
      @kruncher89 5 лет назад

      Hi David, Thanks for explaining your thinking in greater detail. Yes, I'm probably considering strong players - in the minus region, but the scenario is still valid for weaker players, particularly if they play well inside the triangle of danger to leave a short clearance. You have wisely opted to put black slightly north of the triangle of danger, making red at black about 5 yards. The clearance is still possible, but becomes more difficult with the added distance. Blue at red is a 15 yarder and is likely to be missed. Even if it is hit, Blue and Black are likely to remain favourites to win 12. Red now has the choice of the longer clearance on the left hand side of black or just nudging to a few inches in front of 12. I'm not sure what you plan to do with black if red is a few inches in front of 12? You are also correct to note that most players are bad tacticians and will be tempted to simply run 12 with red - but that would be wrong. Your last sentence does not make any sense. If red does play the clearance and black misses yellow, then blue will never need to "peel off of yellow" since yellow will have run the hoop and blue can play up to 13 from the S boundary.

  • @davidhayter8516
    @davidhayter8516 5 лет назад

    This’ only works if blue and black miss. I would have just let red win the hoop while setting up to win 13. Done it many times when 6-5

    • @kruncher89
      @kruncher89 5 лет назад

      Hi David, Please can you explain what you mean exactly. I understand that you are suggesting just letting red win 12 - where are you going to play Black and Blue?

    • @wnh79
      @wnh79 2 года назад

      Just don't allow yourself to give a ricocheted clearance for RY to 13. No need to give up the hoop entirely.

  • @lucyenzed102
    @lucyenzed102 7 лет назад

    What was the fault there, Chris??

    • @kruncher89
      @kruncher89 7 лет назад

      Hi Lucy. The first stroke was a blatant double tap (probably a multiple tap). The second stroke is more marginal - the strikers ball comes out at quite a convincing angle, but travels further than I woud have expected for the direction of stroke. It is marginal. From my persepective, the key is to ensure that all faults such as the first one are always called accurately. There will always be grey areas. Likewise, in Felix v Ahmed game 1, at hoop 12, Felix's shot is a marginal bottom bevel whereas Ahmed's is a blatant multiple tap.

    • @kruncher89
      @kruncher89 7 лет назад

      And to answer your question, the second stroke might be a double tap (which would explain the strikers ball travelling further than I expected. Tough to judge.
