Actor Anthony Hopkins has written music for many years, but the 'Thor' co-star composed his latest piece, "And The Waltz Goes On," with Rieu specifically in mind to perform it. André Rieu was so enthusiastic about the work that he immediately set plans in motion to record it, reportedly moving Hopkins' wife to tears during the initial performance of the tune.

Does anyone know what dialect he is speaking? The subtitles are Dutch, and I've heard him do this same intro in German, but this isn't Hochdeutsch. I know he's from Limburg. Is it the Dutch spoken there that he's speaking? Anyone know?

IT is called limburgisch. It is the language spoken in limburg. It has similarities between Dutch and German.

+LaSheefra well it actually is not. Limburgs derives form the ancient Germanic languages that where spoken by the Germanic tribes. The same as dutch, German and English do. It has been influenced a lot by Dutch the past 100 years, but it does not derive from Dutch, so it can not be a dutch dialect.
This is the most beautiful waltz I have ever heard! I'm glad the man finally dared to have it played. Rieu is right: Hopkins is another Strauss.
This is beautiful.. still I find it a bit sad that one's piece of art is brought into light just because of fame.
I fear it was worry about snide comments like yours that kept Hopkins from daring to hear his music played for so very long. Me, I'm grateful for whatever made it possible for me to experience such timeless beauty.

Each time I watch any film of Sir Hopkins, I certainly watch this video too after the film. It is like drinking a glass of quality champagne after an excellent dinner. I must admit Sir Anthony composing and writing that beautiful Walts was wonderful, and then Having Andrea orchestra playing it was even better .
