Further to my previous video here's my updated/improved tilt & lift ram on my 55hp mariner outboard. I decided to upgrade as galvanized steel still gets attacked by sea water so I've changed it over to stainless steel (316) along with some other things on the boat. previous video - ruclips.net/video/RXYGtcN-LGs/видео.html

Whilst launching my Fishing boat in a very calm sea, a rogue 12" wave on the shore made me lose the sand from under my waders and the boat went into the sea on the out going wave - just as I was about to lower the outboard motor by hand with the small antiquated right angled steel bracket that outboards have. I lost balance and the weight of the motor and bracket came down nipping the end of my...

Here is my home made tilt and trim ram for my outboard engine. I decided to make this following an accident which resulted in me losing the pulp at the end of my finger trying to lower the motor down using the antiquated/manual lever system. Took me 3 days to design and manufacture to suit my 55hp Mariner outboard engine, a simple yet very effective piece of kit that makes life really easy now....

    I have a mariner 75hp.. with manual up and down. The older I get the heavier it gets. I was thinking of doing something similar. In the end it will cost me just south of $1000 to put a real auto trim on it, even if I fabricate it. Im probably better off saving my pennies and buying a more modern outboard that already has power trim on it.

    • @kobiroar4221
      @kobiroar4221 4 года назад

      Hi, I used a paraffin dressing so as it would not stick to the new flesh bobbles that where growing changed the dressing every other day max , always dipped the injury into antiseptic solution to make sure it was clean to dress again. Keep it dry and clean and protect it till the new growth looks like real skin but still kept it covered. As for the tingling I put that down to be the rebuilding of the nerves, once fully grown back I had to desensitise the finger tip by pushing it at say the settee and moving it around then things harder like the table. The finished item looks fine slight downward curve on my finger nail( not a problem) I don't have the same touch sensation as my other fingers right at the end but can still identify things with touch in all a very good out come to what was a nasty injury. Hope that helps you

    • @kobiroar4221
      @kobiroar4221 4 года назад

      Hi there I changed the dressing each day 2 max, put paraffin wax dressing (that would not stick to my finger) antiseptic cream and light clean dry finger dressing over all that. The main thing is to keep it really clean, don't knock the bobbles of new flesh that are growing off, easily done . If you haven't damaged the bone I don't see why you won't get a good repair. It's amazing to see grow back mine took about 5 -6 weeks. Good luck let me know how you get on

    • @jasdeepsingh2955
      @jasdeepsingh2955 4 года назад

      Hey buddy, I m in fourth week of my injury. For three weeks doctors told me to change the dressing every day. Now they suggest me to put on bandages on my fingers. Did you have any touch or sense problem with your finger? Coz I heard that it affects our ability to sense.

    • @kobiroar4221
      @kobiroar4221 4 года назад

      If there's still new skin been grown I'd keep it covered with the paraffin gauze you don't want any new skin sticking to bandages. As for healing time we are all different, your body's repairing it as quick as it can

    • @frankcrapanzano7229
      @frankcrapanzano7229 3 года назад

      About as long as it took you, to not realize (not realise), that it clearly does go down far enough. Didn't you realize that if the motor came down far enough to latch properly to the locking bar at any position, that it obviously does come down far enough. His method requires quite a bit of metal fabricating skills to fully accomplish. But is a great idea. If you can do it better, please share with us and show us your method.

    • @martyadams3915

      Makes sense that if it latches it comes down far enough. I do see where and why this poster might think it doesn't come down far enough though. Videography can be deceiving especially when it comes down to exacts such as mechanics.

    This setup is OK for static TILT function but not for trim; while underway under power the engine is thrusting forward and the ram isn't exerting a force vector to counter that.

      Ernest Berzai. Hi the brackets in the video where made of galvanised mild steel the ram was 6o mm o/d with a 125mm lift, everything was made in my workshop. I'm in the process of a new vid where everything is c/o to 316 stainless steel smaller ram which is positioned higher up under the engine and generally all lighter & more compact.

    Nice work on your tilt piston. I am wondering, before you installed that system, did you have to pull the metal pin/bar out in order to raise your motor, or is there a lever that you can pull somewhere to disengage the "claws" from the pin?
