I worked with Bob Eastman .
Legend and my F1 hero forever! I am sure the snowmobile racing honed his racing skills in the wet.
Grazie Rene' Arnoux, grazie Gilles Villenueve. Jacques un grande abbraccio, avevi un papa' con cuore d'oro. Non ho capito una parola...ma Rene' e Gilles sono persone speciali, leggendarie, sempre nel cuore di noi tofosi. 💯🇨🇦
Jim Dimmerman, an Awesome man still
They're talking together at the end of the video at Lake X, which was first the Mercury test facility in Wisconsin then Yamahas test facility. Sad that Yamaha is out of the snowmobile business.
Those were great days in Peterborough, the Kawartha Cup was like Daytona or Indianapolis and the race track was ALL natural snow.
The high bank years were the best.
I was there.
World championship. That is kinda hilarious.. "Why not call it that? Nobody else do.." that has to be the logic behind it
do you mean snow machine racing?
Damn! Gilles in huge sideburns!!!! Within three years he'll make it to F1, within four to Ferrari and within eight.... Salut Gilles....
I read somewhere that it was quite a spectacle to see young Gilles Villeneuve driving his Skoda every Saturday night from his home to Johanne's home, his girlfriend and future wife!
Thats awesome! what a legend
Gilles was a true champion in every motorsport he tried. RIP.
So much for the modern nay sayers that claim the King Kat of 1971 never won anything. This film proves otherwise. Thanks for posting!
My back hurts just from watching this lol
I was a Ski-Doo kid through and through from when I started riding as a12 year old in 1968, but always admired Bob Eastman and his factory Polaris teammates.
Nice story..Thanks
Was there awesome race.
First time I’ve heard his voice
Forever, Villeneuve will remain the most complete and absolute incarnation of a racing driver. ''Individuals like Gilles only come to earth once. He was truly unique and I would have liked to see what career he would have had without this accident. He would have been crowned world champion, I am 100% convinced of that.'' Mario Andretti.
wow, never knew that Gilles was also talented constructor of snowmobiles. I mean.... that looked like Adrian Newey created back in those days. Thanks for precious upload of history.
Gilles snowmobile looks like a spaceship compared to the others
I left my liver in Eagle River! 🤣
Isn't it ironic that back then the little 433 raced against the 800's. Now Yamaha has to use a 1050 cc machine to compete against the other brands 600's.
The guy the at the 6.17 mark has serious head injury closed eye and frost bitten,,,,unfortunately this kind of injury usually shows up later in life l
Saw him at Lancaster New Hampshire with the skiroules, won the 250-340 and 440 their first time out in late January 1976, Polaris race director bob eastman was in the stands and remarked how well they cornered, it always shocked me Polaris never signed him to drive and his ifs design after that. The 73 super, 74 twin track and the 76 ifs skiroules , all super competive low budget sleds,
Thanks so much for uploading this
Thanks for sharing, vintage sleds rule
I'm somewhere in that crowd!
Me too
@@Trackratz-zl9di did you grow up on Peterborough.
@@equinoxproject2284 N o Toronto. My father and uncle both raced . My father was with the Ontario Ski Doo factory team 71 and 72 and my uncle Bud Lee was with a Rupp affiliate ream those years . They then both moved over to the Kohler/Speedway team for 73 and then the Kohler factory Sno Pro team for 74 .. I won the Jr Kawatha Cup (under 16) in 1973 on a 250 Arctic Cat 250 Eltigre free air , That I thought was a rocket lol
@@equinoxproject2284 Here's a Pete connection for you . . In 73 Jim Adeema won the Kawartha Cup overall . Scott Hemming won Mens stock Cup his sister won the women's division Cup . They were both from Pete . I have several pics of all of us at the awards presentation held at the Pete Holiday Inn.
@@Trackratz-zl9di That is so cool. In this video I’m somewhere to the right side of the grandstand.
Fergie Olver!
Così ché tutto ebbe inizio... THE LEGEND....!!!! 👏1⃣🏅💫👍💯👌
Saw Villeneuve race at the Syracuse mile in 1973 snow pro with his twin trackers .. going into the turns had a few sleds ahead of him.... coming out always in the lead..a mile track a bit to long that day.
Awesome. Giles was a great driver. I saw him win the 1979 South African Grand Prix. One of his 6 GP wins.
thank you for sharing that piece of antology Salut Gilles!
Does anyone know Daryl Kish from Minnesota
That was nice. Thanks.
That’s when slides were fast. 1978 was the best year in the 70s for speed light weight small sleds.
How can slides be fast no such thing
I love things like that grow in the u p of Michigan live in Wisconsin now the kids nowa days wouldn't even know what a boogie wheel is let alone change one on the trail
Has anyone got video of him winning Minnesota fair grounds race he broke a ski off going into turn 1 I finished 6th day on a artic 650 super mod fastest track ever up on the banking
A legend with a need for speed ,
Grande Gilles ,sarai sempre nei nostri cuori !👍👍👋👋👋
I live in Saskatchewan, we watched races there back in the day. Great track, the boys could fly on this track.
Anybody ever heard of "snirt"
Snow and dirt together off the fields
@@stevecollins8381 It will eat up the track and slides on a snowmobile.
I am blessed to see Gilles race on the awesome Alouette Super at Boonville in 1973. Great memories. Probably the baddest sled ever with that Sachs 650 screaming.
Bob Eastman, nobody better on the oval tracks. Enough said....
Gotta love those Jumping Otto finishes.
I would be jumping up and down too, must of been awesome being the flagman
Leaving a comment was an issue as you see
I might have been there that year. Went a bunch of times
.
I might have been there, can’t remember exactly, but went to the Kawartha cup a number of times.
Thats my dad at 3:54! Don Brault!
I remember seeing your dad race
