Germany’s Wild Northeast
Thirty-five years ago, it was anybody’s guess what German reunification would mean for conservation in the former German Democratic Republic: would hyper-development follow the rush of western money, or would it be possible to preserve the wilder areas and traditional land uses that had survived in the East? The confrontation between economic aspiration and habitat conservation could hardly have been starker.
But in spite of the inevitable compromises, eastern Germany, thirty-five years after reunification, retains an impressive variety of natural and anthropogenic habitats and the birds that go with them-at this season, including tens of thousands of Common Cranes and bean geese alongsid...

Oke salam Kenal dari palembang 🙏🙏
How is a 14 day itinerary including food ,lodging and tours?
Nice video.
best way nowadays is only to show birds on internet to satisfy all birders. 就好了 Thanks for sharing.
Great to see Geoff again; it’s been decades. Hugely respect his knowledge. I used to work with his gorgeous sister in JHB some decades ago. ❤
Thank you; brilliant. Just what I needed. Walk the coastal path by the Bristol Channel every day and love to see the waders; especially happy if I spot a curlew. Very unsure of some of the birds I see, so this will help a lot in identifying them. Often hear their calls, but not sure which call belongs to which bird. More please!
Merlin will attach pictures to the calls. I would be keen to hear about what you see these winter months.
Nice sharing 👍
Interestingly enough as a young man of 15 years old...I took a special interest in shorebird identification....I had the special treat of living near parker river nationsl wildlife refuge on plum island massachusetts. When I first went there I saw lots of people with spotting scopes...not just binoculars...but high powered scopes...and I realized that those scopes would be fantastic in allowing one to get good steady close up shots of the different migratory birds that populated the Bill forward pool at the refuge... .So I got myself a cheap spotting scope cuz i wanted to give it a try....There was an older gentleman their who I saw quite often, and he was so fun to talk to.He looked like a pro dressed in his outdoor gear and olive drab.He drove a very old Pinto wagon that barely ran,but he was always there and showed me what I was looking at and was a great big help in those early days of myself as a young man to learn how to identify shorebirds. I had a fantastic guide just titled shorebirds that i paid 35 bucks for which at the time was a heck of a lot of money but I was dedicated to the art of identification.I get great joy at watching shorebirds on the mudflats....taking inventory and seeing how many species I can find on any given day... Semipalmated sandpipers, lesser and greater yellowlegs and Dunlins...golden plovers were all very common on plum island. If you ever get a chance PRNWR is one of the finest birding spots on the entire east coast of the Usa as it has many different habitats for over 300 species of birds..
Wonderful talk. Thank you so much.

Hay muchos mas aves 🦜
This is the best video I remember from Victor Emanuel. Instead of the standard slide show, there are some video clips. With all of the opportunities at their disposal, I hope they continue to show us more video.
Awesome video! You guys inspired me to visit Napo and it was certainly one of the most incredible places I have ever been to. Cheers
Went to quito for a summer in college and then went on a weekend trip to guayaquil when I was there - wasnt into birds then - its a shame. Although I did see alpacas, llamas, giant tortoises, and a Tapir.

thanks, epic ,sleep well-
I have been a subscriber for many years and absolutely LOVE this program and the ease with which to find everything you could possibly want to learn about every single species of bird in the world!!! Fabulous!!!
This was very interesting and helpful. Thanks so much
Is there a logistical reason to stay at the Napo Cultural Center Lodge en route to Napo Wildlife Center?
Hello Graham: There are a few reasons, both logistical and ‘environmental’/birding, to stay at the Napo Cultural Center prior to heading over to Napo Wildlife Center. Logistically, being located along the Río Napo makes it easier to visit and spend time at the two ‘saladeros’ to enjoy the parrot show; it also allows us more time to visit one or two river islands; this first area offers chances to find species less likely or impossible to find in the more extensive forest found around the Wildlife Center (i.e., Rufous-headed Woodpecker, Amazonian Umbrellabird, etc.). We would also have options in case weather or slow bird activity should hamper our results on our first morning along the Napo. I hope this answers your question, but if you have any further concerns or queries, please feel free to let me know. Best regards, Paul Greenfield

Would love to experience the Amazon! My Dad (RIP) was on the Amazon in the 1960s. My health prevents me from participating in your wonderful adventure.
Very tempting! Thank you.
You should stop in Guayaquil (GYE) Check out Wild GYE INITIATIVE.
