At this point, most american exceed cars like these, the joy and sound of ferrari went out the moment they started adding in turbochargers and hybrid systems. American cars will follow, but for the time being, because of relaxed regulations, american manufacturers can still offer naturally aspirated cars.

The ones who are scoffing as if nothing is better than their any-idiot-can-do-it 2-dimensional world have never, and will never, even come close to understand the "analog" satisfaction of having to wait for 20 minutes of driving a gear too low on a cool Autumn morning in a 328GTSi with the top out and the miserable little heater vents not doing anything, as one waits for all the fluids to heat up and thin out and really start cooperating. Once up to temps, that cold ball shifter finally transfers more comfort to the hand, the shifts are like the satisying cocking of a shotgun, the tires finally have a little give to the sidewalls to lessen the slamming of the popping suspension and less punishment through the non-assisted steering wheel tilted like that of a Greyhound bus, and one finally doesn't mind sitting at a cockeyed angle to work the three pedals. There is a satisfaction and a joy to making it all work together very well on that Autumn morning when the defogger finally works and the air is drying from the dew as the sun begins to stretch a little higher on the horizon, which is a very good thing with the speedbrake-headlights doing their job about 50mph worth, but not more. The smells of the morning leaves, of morning fields, the wind occasionally teasing you with the smell of some farmhome's coffee & bacon flavors on the breeze, the occasional but familiar gasoline fumes competing with those of the distincitive stiff carpet and Italian beefskin inside the spyder swirl in the cockpit... I could go on, but those who scoff don't even have the capacity to begin to understand the richness of experiences like that. Give them, instead, electric motors and automatic transmissions that even blip ths throttle if owners want to pretend they have a manual ttansmisson, and moronproof stability control AI-capable codriver systems and constant broadcast to satellites logging activities and locations and speeds and times and idle and maps searched and data retrieved when the internet was being used or watched in the vehicle and real-time throttle percentage and averages of throttle, et cetera et al. Thanks, I'll stick to the memories of my 328. It was a car no one ever hacked with a laptop in a shopping center parking lot.
