I actually did what you adviced here ...by mistake and yes it did cause a lot of frustration but hey if it helps
Bro I Love Your Videos It Helps Me A Lot In Understanding Games And Making Them :D
Thanks! Glad to hear that the videos help!
@@IndieDevCorner :D
👆👍🔥❤🔥
Frontloading tutorials is a great method of learning. You'll gain broad spectrum of exposure so that when you encounter problems you'll know what to search for.
I’m going to try that for learning Godot! Great video! I also feel like this can help a lot in learning artistic skills as well (i.e., changing some of the proportions, colors or materials while following the tutorial, and then after finishing it make a different asset that uses similar techniques)
Good luck with your godot journey!
Simplest answer: Don't watch tutorials that show you how to make a game
The rename and change thing is something I always did and still do - I never realised I was doing it, though! haha. I definitely remember going back and tripping over myself because i named a variable slightly different and I can confirm that thie does definitely work!
Quite a few people do it naturally, simply because naming things your way makes it feel more personal! But to my surprise not every one does this naturally, most people will rather follow things 1 to 1 to avoid complications, when in reality, complications are a good thing 😂 Thanks for the comment!
Great points! I found that I learn best by combining your two first points. I don't follow the tutorial to the dot, I directly apply it to an idea I have. But this does mean you have to actively search for a tutorial about a mechanic or system. This doesn't work for " let's make a platformer". tutorials. Those can be best done in the way you describe, for sure. I think it also matter at what point you are in the field you're researching.
One thing that helps me learn is to PURPOSELY watch other engine’s tutorials (Unity) and try to replicate it in my engine (Godot).
That is actually a very cool idea! It goes into the same direction of stepping out of the comfort zone!
am not going to lie. what this guy says works. i mostly use all the tips apart from the game jam....gdevelop has a game jam btw
2:30 you wrote C++ code in a main.py. there is blood in my eyes rn 🤩
Thanks, but dont use AI for thumbnails. Thanks.
Thanks for the feedback! I make most my thumbnails myself, but sometimes my skill is not enough to properly portray the thumbnail I'm imagining, so I use AI in those moments, and it seems to work out well enough :)
@@IndieDevCorner well i guess we are in times where we really have to adapt and accept certain things around us, so i really cant blame you for using it since it saves time and energy, good video by the way! and thankyou for taking your time replying to me, you'll reach places my guy^^
@@ResetUE Every feedback is valuable and I completely understand people's stance on AI, I also believe that in most cases, a well made, man made thumbnail (or art in general) is better! Thanks for the comments! Cya :D
besides outline shader they all look like sheet lol
I sort of already was doing some of these, I followed the tutorials, but made sure to note in the code how it worked as I went to my best understanding, then created a small practice project with similar mechanics from multiple tutorials combined and only allowed myself to reference my notes from the previous tutorials, not copy code. Made it much easier tonunderstand what was happening although it wasnt perfect.
Nice!! It's the best feeling when you feel yourself learning!
What helped me „escaping“ Tutorial hell is learning why something was done the way it is and also thinking about how it could be done otherwise. This solely comes through a lot of pain, from watching tutorials and trying new stuff, failing said new stuff - questioning my intelligence and why the hell I am doing all this, only to get it working and realizing what kind of abomination I‘ve created and reverting back to what the tutorial learned me. This erroneously feels like making no progress, but in reality is the imo number one factor for getting better in anything you do. You simply have to understand why something is done the way it is. Watch tutorials, try stuff out, fail hard, question your life but never stop trying and learning. (Another huge tip, become proficient in the coding language in general, not just for game development. Know your language in and out!)
Oh my God thank you! i recently escaped tutorial hell but none of those videos on RUclips actually helped. they gave no actionable solutions, all i had to help me was people on reddit and the godot forum. This was great and straight to point! Liked and subscribed.
Happy to hear you escaped! Hope this video helps others too :D
@@IndieDevCorner It definitely will. my only regret was not seeing this video or knowing about these tips sooner, would have made my learning more efficient.
sos una combinacion entre dross y pewdiepie, banco
Tutorial about rotation matrices. When they use sine, you use cosine. Where they write Pi, you write e. Where they use Matrix x Vector, you do Vector x Matrix
We need to get indiedev corner to 100k subscribers asap, BY ORDER OF THE PEAKY BLINDERS!!
DAMN, you everywhere!! BUT YES!
@@IndieDevCorner im everywhere cuz im a big fan of you bro!
Hilariously enough I've actually been doing this with the python course I'm taking, along with seeing if I can meet the requirements of assignments with different blocks of code and then moving from there to apply the knowledge by writing my own side projects using the things I just learned to make sure I know how they work. ^^ Glad to see that I'm not only not the only one, but that it's generally considered a certified pro gamer move XD
Pls continue making your own thumbnails instead, this ai style is so fake
I agree, but sometimes I just can't make a good one, for this thumbnail I tried for a good 3-4h before just deciding to give it to chatgpt :( Once I manage to get some more income I'll hire an artist to make them! Thanks for the feedback!
I found that personally I don't learn so well from videos and learn much better from text. So have started making text-based tutorials for all the most popular engines. Free for anyone who wants to break free :)
Pinned the comment 👍
yeah i also find text easier oddly
God… I HATE all the fluff that most videos have that try to help you… THIS video is NOT that. You absolutely nailed it. And what’s even more surprising is that you have just over 1k subs. You are gonna blow up. Great video man!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video :D
Holy shit, tutorial for tutorials
Hahahaha
Thanks! Great advice that doesn't just apply to game dev!
Glad it helped!
The best skill they don't teach you is using the documentation
So true... I hate digging into documentation...
That’s why imo the best way to leave the tutorial hell is to try make the project on our own from the start maybe that taking the assets from tutorials
but what to do when things dont have documentation 😂
Most of the time I don't know what I'm reading, so then i go to tutorials.
@@IndieDevCorner it's fulfilling in Godot imo. It's fast, works inengine, you can just right click a "class"(node) and immediately open the documentation for it, and just ctrl+F the keyword you're after
What worked for me is just to start making something. Sure my code is messy and janky but it does what it needs to do. I only follow tutorials for stuff i either dont know how to implement or for signals and stuff like that. Following a tutorial will maybe teach you some basics but you will forget most of it in a couple of days.
Hey, a wannabe game developer here. You gave some good advice, but on the other hand I won't join any game jams, I will spend that time working on my game instead.
Sounds good! 😁
Decided to make my first game. Great vid with helpful info. Will be back ❤️❤️
Good luck with your game! :D
1:20 did anyone saw urdu?
where is urdu? cant find it but yes Harnai Digital is from Pakistan and he is the editor of this channel
Thank you. But I didn't include no Urdu at all. Haha😂 @@ProbablyM_S
AI generated thumbnail go to hell
"Just get good and try harder" doesn't make for content the algorithm likes unfortunately
Hahaha, I feel this! I've told my editor in advance "this video is going to do terribly but it's a video that I need to make"
Wow! This is real advice! Now that I think about it... there are a lot of Unity devs making Godot tutorials recently. Unity's naming conventions don't align with Godot's so I have to change everything. I thought it was a little frustrating, but I guess it was actually a blessing in disguise.
Seems like it haha! Any reason why you switched to godot? Because the unity drama?
@@IndieDevCorner Actually, I only started game dev this year. I didn't even know about the Unity drama... I just wanted something light weight because I was on an old laptop. I enjoyed using Godot so much that I wanted to make it a serious hobby. I went out and bought a desktop computer for the first time in about 15 years.
Sounds incredible! I wish you the best of luck! :D
Nice tutorial❤. Doing everything what you told already so I am cooked😏😏.

XD, I have a good editor :P
Is there a tutorial on how to do toon shader + outline?? Would be helpful
À quick youtube search will give you loads of good tutorials 😉
i passionately hate that knocking sound. video is great though
Hahahaha <3
I was wearing headphones. Between 05:00 and 06:00. The sound was so realistic that I had to check if there were people knocking at my windows. Do NOT do that again.
@@em4nuelis Hahaha, I'm sorry XD

OK, so just make the whole thing look green
Instructions unclear, made the screen completly black.
Toon shader + outline looks so beautiful, thanks for info ❤
:D <3
I love the kuwahara shader, I never knew what it's name was but now that I do, I'm definitely gonna use it in a project sometime!
I do use post processing for some authentic styles in the game.😅💟 Retro era is coming back... as people looks quite bored of realistic shtt.
Yeah, it does seem like retro is coming back strong!
When the world needed him the most. He came back. Lol btw I like The *Flat Shader* a lot.
It's my favorite too :D
Pokemon vs palworld is a good example. The Forest vs subnautica is not so great - both are the same game, subnautica is just that reskinned. While dungeon keeper is a unique video game the concept is simply the DM from a TTRPG (with some management stuff slapped on top). Not to say it is bad but broadening ones view to non-computer games can give you ideas.
Good inputs! 👍
