I know that I come off as a sub hater but I actually really liked it revisiting it as an adult. I think 4kids dubs were great for hooking US kids into shows, but subs as an adult are more interesting to revisit.

Really what you need for a good redemption is have the character come to terms with their actions. They did that wonderfully with the baby digimon attacking him when he was searching for wormon. The other thing that he tries to make things right.
okay so here's a collection of thoughts I had watching this video: I often think a lot about how Ryo's wonderswan games are canon, despite what the anime tries to say. The actual sequence of events was that during the movie at the end of adventure, Ryo and Ken were watching things happen from Ken's place, a Veemon jumps out of the PC they're using and goes "hey come help us, shit's fucked, take this D-3" and they go on their merry way as co-protagonists before Ken eventually takes an almost literal bullet for the guy to catalyze 02's plot into actually happening. Not saying Ken's brother didn't exist in the original draft, because he probably still did, digimon is a multimedia project after all. And how, because of that, Ken was a protagonist from the get-go, because the flashback featuring ken taking a bullet for Ryo actually has an entire handheld rpg's worth of story around it after all, and because of that, but folks outside of japan just didn't know because of it. The fact that they kept writing milleniummon (the unseen big bad of adventure, 02, and even tamers) out of the anime prior to adventure 2020 was super garbo though because there was potential there. Admittedly, Ryo and him have since abruptly exited the timeline in the time since Our War Game because Taichi and Co. (Wallace included surprisingly. This is the point where I go on a tangent about how he canonically gets to just keep terriermon and lopmon because he's just built different from the adventure cast) decided to go on a training arc with him. The four beast digimon are even here because sure why not they're not slated to get sealed up for another couple years anyway. I wish that digimon had been popular enough (not that it isn't/wasn't) to actually cause the vpet boom to escape japan properly, because there are so many games stuck in japan due to that. And there are a lot of japan exclusive digimon games. Also unfortunately I regret to inform you that davis has the character arc of a potato due to executive meddling, but outside of the actual show in supplementary materials that execs couldn't interfere with, he's actually got an insane amount of depth, the guy has confidence issues, his sense of self is slightly lacking, he's terrified of being a leader and of letting his friends down. But damn, does he know what he wants out of life. He's the one person who SHOULD have fallen for the lotus eater machine at the end of the series who just DIDN'T because he has his life planned right out, knows what he wants, and even how to get it! And it isn't what the final boss is trying to offer him. I'm fairly certain the dark ocean is just an extension of the dark area in all seriousness. We don't really know much about the dark area from adventure specifically, but I assume it's much more of an eldritch location compared to the normal dark area. That chimeramon Ken made also wound up falling through a rift in time to create milleniummon (surprisingly this is not an uncommon plot point in digimon media pre-frontier), too, supposedly. TK being the original intended protagonist/actual leader of the 02 party and then going on to deck Ken after going "okay, I see that violence is the solution here because you won't listen to me :>" will never not amuse me. The crest of kindness was a complete "well this was out of nowhere" thing but honestly I'm behind it, the crest of miracles, and the crest of fate just being things that exist out there in the setting because I like the idea that there's as many crests as the story needs there to be. (hell I'm also a fan of the crest of desire existing AND being Ryo's crest specifically) the fact that the dark spores are literally a leftover plot point, in universe is never not going to be interesting (negative connotation) to me, though And finally: your understanding of the concept of the isekai trope is somewhat flawed. Yes, SAO popularized it in the west despite not actually BEING an isekai anime itself, but it's been around for a long-ass time. Mashin Hero Wataru has existed since the 80s, and technically I think there's even earlier trope codifier candidates, but we're not getting into that here. There are plenty of good isekai premise shows, you just have to know how to sort through them, just like with every other single genre. And much like being able to tell your Narutos from your JJKs from your One Pieces from your Dragon Balls, that takes experience with the genre and tropes therein. Hell, isekai isn't even supposed to be a main genre for shows, it's a secondary trait, at least on all the ones that are actually at least somewhat good.
Please tell me the title and episode of this video so I can buy the DVD.

ngl the different color red dragon archfiends from the fake jack were kinda nice
The joke got cut but the colors of the copy archfiends are magenta, yellow and cyan. Which are the colors used for ink toner in printers/copiers… cause theyre copies get it?
@@bitkingdtThat's honestly such an cool and obscure detail
Oh, I didn't notice that. The colors of Yusei and Jack's D-wheel are the color of the opposite's signer dragon. That's a cool detail.
5Ds just has cool characters in general. Yusei, Jack, Crow, Leo, hell, even Aki and Luna were pretty good before they got written off. Even side characters like Trudge were great. All-around good show. Love me some card games on motorcycles!
I watched 5ds only recently and i was planing to make a video on jack of my own because i had so many things to say about how he was written, but then i stumbled upon this vid and you honestly say so much already that i can't add much. Instead i'll just unload any stray thoughts in this comment: I am so angry that Carly was moved to the sidelines starting in the third season. Yugioh media are so sanitized in a lowest common denominator, mass appeal kind of way that romantic plots with main cast characters never get written, but this one came so close. I never thought i'd be shipping anyone in yugioh but Carly and Jack just work so well with each other. Even if there was no romance plot, which let's be real, they never would have written, seeing any sort of friendship between them like they had in s2 would have been so cool. Jack used to want to perish with Carly rather than live without her cause she helped him be who he is now, but then he never so much as talks to her and treats her the same way as the blue haired cop and the waitress. The later portion of 5d's has this problem where anyone who's not part of Mickey5D's and doesn't have a cool tribal tattoo on their forearm isn't really a friend of the main cast. We only see Jack and Yusei's old satellite chums in one brief scene near the end of the last season too. Whatever happened with Himuro and Yanagi? A lot of Jack's spotlight episodes felt samey. They're all like "I will power through! Oh no this problem cannot be solved in that particular way! I will punch harder!". However one thing i did appreciate is how in the duel against team unicorn Jack was too prideful to take a pit stop to check his god damn blinking engine light, but falling on his ass helped him learn the importance of team play which is seen in their duel against team taiyo. As soon as he catches on that they're onto something funky and that they must be dragging the duel on with some sort of end goal in mind, he pulls off that gambit that makes his lp 0 so that Crow can come on and wrap up the duel. He threw away his personal victory for the good of the team. Way to go, Jakku! Funny that you mentioned class traitors in the beginning of the vid and then near the end there is a shot of Crow is his police uniform.
Yusei and Jack are my favorite Yugioh characters and i main their decks
Stardust dragon was my phone case for the longest time
I love you man
So The Satellite is basically Gaza
1. Jack , 2. Bruno / Antinomy , 3. Yusei , 4. Akiza , 5. Crow .
The reason Carly got side lined so hard, and the plot went so rapidly into Sci-Fi and a couple of plot threads about Akiza and the Arcadia Movement were left on the cutting room floor are interesting. Carly's Japanese VA, was in a cult. Some kind of BDSM cult, it's odd, no clue how to explain it. So they basically to avoid a lot of controversy and other issues, she was recast, and her character sidelined. This situation is the reason why a subplot about Arcadia and Divine kinda never went anywhere. Because The Arcadia Movement was a cult, and Divine was it's leader. A little to close to recent things going on. The Akiza's Japanese VA had a baby, meaning her time she could provide voice over work was drastically reduced, leading her already reduced role because of Crow to be even more reduced to accommodate for needing to take care of her child. 5D's is an interesting beast production wise.
I'm a huge 5Ds fan, It's my favourite series out of all the YGO. Yusei obviously being my favourite main character of all but Jack Atlas is another character I deeply love, he's just amazing. I love his whole personality, his cards, relationship with friends. Everything. Same goes for other characters in 5Ds like Kalin Kessler, and Crow.
Amazing analysis
I really wish they went into how he thought it was all a program before he turned back. Kind of felt like a retcon. Like imagine how many people pick the bad route in a game because A it’s fun to be bad in a story and B the powers are cool. It might take away from Ken being the bad guy during his arc but makes him relatable too
I thought the same thing, like they hint at it but not enough to really believe it
Bro what? Why did you have to mention the manga? Every gen other than DM has a completely different story in the manga and anime.
Justice for Carly Nagisa!
Just came to watch this video after the Crimson King Structure Deck in TCG came out!

Jack might be the Goat when it comes to Yugioh Rivals, but I would argue that Revolver is a very close second.
Great video, loved to hear you talk about the game. It Def was odd there wasn't any black people in the game 😮
who is Taidus?
You're wrong when you said miles is like wally west he's not when wally west takes over as the falsh barry allen stayed dead for 2 decades which was enough for wally west to make his own mark as the flash has his own story and villain while miles didn't peter was dead for 4 years and came back just to gave miles his blessing and dip out. Miles copy peter storylines when he came to 616 had a whole clone saga and has a black version of black cat these spiderverse try to change the character by giving sneakers and be bilingual but nothing has change and kids still think of peter when they think of spiderman nit miles cause their suits are different unlike wally and barry and their race. 2099 was just a self insertion of people that don't like miles and make him a antagonist gave him his Wanda vision story of have fake dead kids. When actually the most interesting of any spiderman variant and has his own story and struggle
Thank you for doing this, I remember having this feeling too and after playing the Roxas segment of the game. That feeling that everything is going to change and not having a summer vacation anymore, experience this while I was 12 before I went into middle shcool and again after I graduated High shcool. That feeling of wanting to go back so badly, but knowing that time only moves forward and just plain have to accept it. I think I had a hard time accepting things when I was a kid. I eventually learn and grew up. But sometimes I look back and still have some thoughts over the memories I made when I was little. May your heart be your guiding key everyone.
Thanks for watching, it meant alot making this
A detail about Jack that's easy to miss but very telling about his character arc is his role in Team 5D's during the Grand Prix: Jack is the first team member of the match, meaning he'll inveitably get eliminated sooner or later in every round and will have to pass the baton to the rest of the team after his role done. Season 1 Jack would demand to be the final player and be the one who gets the final victory and credit never technically take a Loss which is the role Yusei had, instead now Jack is willing to play the role of support player opening strong and setting up for the other team mates.
1 hour of you explaining jacks character just for Jaden Yuki to be the best protagonist
I mean I have a whole different video about Jack :p This ones about Yusei
The moment when Yusei is dueling Rex’s brother and he almost breaks down into tears because he can’t even understand why his friends would so much as smile at him because he blames himself for what his father caused sold me on him as a protagonist.
Same, that scene alone inspired a whole video that i want to do once the strike is over
Miguel being Catholic gives it more meat too. Makes sense of how stern he is. (I looked it up)
5ds showed a really great story of character growth
A question about Americas ethnicity, where was it confirmed that she was afro latina? I was initially surprised and was looking for additional info on her mothers but nothing conclusive came up. I know her comic variant is visibly darker like you said but the only thing I could think of that is that one Varient cover of her with Monica and Carol, where she wears an outfit referencing one of Beyonces looks. Either way I adore her and cannot wait for when the MCU does the Ultimates storyline.
I mean yeah by how she is drawn, by how the main artists choose to draw her (although other artists draw her lighter). I don't know that they ever state it in plain text but i mean it's a comic, look at her hair and skin and yeah lol
@@bitkingdthey I just remembered to check back in with your channel and this comment I wanted to thank you for responding idk how I came off at first and I forgot to offer additional context in my original post. As a black trans women I've seen discourse surrounding her and had been confused since then and until recently was under the impression she was just latina as stated. Now after looking more at some of her depictions I see why people see her as afro Latino. With how the comic artists do Storm or even Monet St. Croix I was worried about making sure I had my facts all straight/wasn't propagating misinformation which lead to the question 😵 over explaining done. Keep up the good video analysis.
The police officer is also the guy who was bullying, Tristan, and Joey in that flashback episode in the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series
Planetary gear...just like the cosmic Synchros...
honestly. I found 5ds the most dissatisfying. the threat was always city level, and the protagonist either wins or the duel gets interrupted. Why would I enjoy a character that didn't appear to grow in skill from his losses when he visually appeared unbeatable. Like why would to watch a character that played perfectly almost all the time.
Please do more like Jaden,Akiza and others

Banger video! :) Just to further explore the question of how much we can trust Lyla, I’ve heard before that Lyla has fallen in love with Miguel in certain incarnations and has subsequently tried to kill his love interests. So, possibly, Lyla could’ve been responsible for the world Miguel visited getting destroyed and just told him it was because of cannon events to cover her trail. She’s also the one who tells Gwen that a canon events about to happen in New Mumbattan. I’m not sure how this would play out on a meta textual level but it’s interesting to think about. Take it with a grain of salt though cause I heard it second hand and I don’t personally know much about spider man 99’s story.
I think you should do the other characters of Yugioh 5ds like Crow and Aki since they get a lot of moments in the anime.
I have something planned for Aki, but Crow is actually going to be part of an "archetype" character study series I want to do
@@bitkingdt Yay Aki was my favourite female character of all of Yugioh since she was the first female character to duel well and have an interesting part of the story. My new favourite is Skye Zaizen/Blue Angel.

Great video. I didnt know about the yusei gears wich is such a cool concept. This series has so much symbolism and cool visuals. Are you still going to talk about 5ds (now that the main characters are done)? Are you going to visit some other yu gi oh series? Or something else?
I want to do something with Aki, but I want to start a series on character archetypes with Crow as an example for one. I definitely want to branch out beyond anime
The dub butchered Yusei so bad. Starting with that awful catchphrase
Nah, Let’s Rev It Up is burned into my memory and what I always say in my head when I Synchro Summon my Scrap Twin Dragon card lol
You're capping. Yuseis dub voice and style fit him really well
What are you talking about? Dub Yusei was great, line delivery was on point, and his original character was kept intact. However, when it comes to the dub of Yu-protagonists solely on how they sound, Yuma is the weakest one in my opinion.
That's why i never watch Dubs anymore. Chldlish comercial catchphrases. In OG Japanese versions they always talk wth natural real life language, a language that feels as " not used for just a show " ( at least as far as Subs show me), that's always great n shows though
