I see that you use an Over/under. Can I ask what chokes you use and which barrel do you select to shoot first, top or bottom? Awesome dog work and great shooting.
Sure thing: On that hunt I was shooting an @CZusa All-Terrain Upland Ultralight. I have both the 12- and 20-gauge versions. Love 'em! I use M on the bottom (first barrel) and IM on the top (second barrel). They both pattern well with Federal PS 5s. I think on that hunt I was shooting the 12 gauge with 1&1/4-oz loads of Federal Premium copper-plated 5s. Can't beat it, and I've shot everything.
wow , enjoyable video sir, great chunk of land, great dogs, lots of birds and NO FOUL LANGUAGE ,really makes for an excellent video thanks for sharing your adventure
Nice hunt GREAT DOG!
Great video 👍
Thanks for watching!

what choke?
M on the first (bottom) barrel and IM on the top. They’re they extended Huglu chokes that came with the @CZusa 20-gauge I was using. Gavin was shooting modified out of his pump.
@DakotaPheasantHunt tq
looks like game farm no??
Sorry to disappoint, but these were wild birds on a patch of private ground. Usually I hunt public ground, but for this hunt we had permission to walk some pristine cover.
Great video, loved the dog and son work! Thanks for sharing! 😃
Thanks! It was a blast. I try to soak up every minute I'm in the field with my boys!
Awesome intro punctuated with a cackle! Love it. Great shooting. Really like the personal point of view augmented with the Shotkam footage. Great job. It's hard to see the gog working because he's the same color as the cover.
👍.......🇵🇰
Nice hunt, I love to hunt in the snow tracks always make me excited to know for sure there's birds in the field I'm in
love the camera on shotgun with the dot, what part of the state did you hunt?
We were on some CREP ground about an hour west of Sioux Falls. And we love the ShotKam! It captures great video, but it's also a teaching tool that can help you analyze hits ... and, well, misses too!
Very nice hunt.
I always think I like the cold weather hunts better. Until it gets cold, then I think I like the warm ones more, lol. Fantastic little hunt! Great to see some content from you.
I always tell people I'm a plump Norwegian - I'm built for the cold! Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for the note.
DAKOTA ❤❤❤
What shotgun you using?
CZ Upland Ultralight 12-gauge.
That is some beautiful cover to work ❤
Great hunt! My human has been to SD five times when he was younger and tells stories like this. Hoping he takes me one day. Below are a few of my adventures. ruclips.net/video/aALwvTdJpoY/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Gauge is a real seasoned veteran pheasant hunter. I really like his work. You can be very proud. 👍
Really good video :)
what choke?
what choke?
M on bottom (first) barrel and IM and top.
No pheasant in idaho like this to hunt. Pheasants forever is a crock of shit in the west. Also, fish & game and the politicians who have sold of all the farm grounds for businesses and housing tracks for Californians.
Great job - hunter and dog!
Well done! Nice ending to the season.
We have land near fedora on the miner county line and it’s beautiful and there’s plenty of birds!
Nice hunt👊🏻 what choke do you like using
Hi Larry ... On the Franchi Affinity 3 Elite Upland I was using, I've had really good luck with patterns from the Trulock mid-range extended choke that came with the gun. It's a .705/IM choke.
@@DakotaPheasantHuntchoke and size choke?
Great video!
Awesome video definitely miss hunting them just not very many here in northwest Ohio. Congrats on the limit
Hey thanks for watching! I'm glad you were able to follow along and hopefully rekindle some memories of past hunts. Thanks again!
That last bird shot was perfect to end the day with the sunset in the background! I've had my share of last minute birds but yours tops it!
Thanks! Pure luck. I wanted to turn to the right where more birds were jumping, but I've learned to always, always follow the dog. I'm glad I did.
Nice hunt. Love hunting in the snow.Thx for sharing.
I love it, too! However, it reminds me how out of shape I am, hence the heavy breathing! Take care!
Very well done, you two. Nothing like that third bird with half the sun below the horizon!
Thanks, man! You two had a heckuva year, too! Always love following Sage. We don't deserve 'em, do we?!?
@@DakotaPheasantHunt I like the way you think! We’re out right now, working WAY harder than a guy should have to and finally got rooster one in the vest. 😂
@@jcwoutdoors Atta boy! I have been trying to figure out a way to sneak out tomorrow. We shall see. Good luck! Congrats on a great year!
@@DakotaPheasantHunt Thanks and congrats to you two as well. And we managed to get two roosters with about 10 minutes before sunset. Like you said, we deserve it!
Great video. What camera are you using for the head mount? Assuming GoPro but hoping you can tell me what model. I am looking to capture more of my hunts for next year.
It's a GoPro12, and a ShotKam Gen 4 on the barrel. I also have an Insta360 X2 that I sometimes wear on my head, and while that camera is more creative and does great with anything within 20 yards or so, it lacks the desired resolution at any kind of distance. It's probably operator error, but I used the GoPro more and more throughout the season simply because it could "reach" farther, if that makes sense. Thanks for watching!
Great video. Thanks
Glad you liked it! Thanks!
Very nice Hunt. I came up to Huron South Dakota January 3 through the 10th from Florida with a friend and his son hunting public land in that area. The last few days the conditions were brutal.. Did not see many birds in the public cover. Thanks for sharing.
Wow ... those were some of the coldest days of the entire season with the worst conditions. The only option the birds have is to find the thickest cover available and ride it out. I'm sorry you had bad luck with the weather.
Great video! 👍
5:40 mark,, one runs left to right across the opening,,, looked to be a hen?
Yep! There were birds getting up and running all over the place. I'm pretty sure it was a hen.
Can I send that guy with the chocolate lab a free e-collar? I'm shocked there is a bird left in the field with all that chatter.
Where in relation to Stickney are you guys hunting. My father owns around 240 acres along with more owned by his relatives NW of Stickney that we hunt pheasants for opening week. Stumbled upon your video and heard you mention Stickney. Absolutely love pheasant hunting in that area.
That has to be the most incredible wild pheasant hunt I've ever seen!! So many pheasants concentrated in that one field! I think i heard you say that was under 200 acres? Some great shooting by both you and Gavin. I would have sworn that first bird you shot was a hen!? On that second bird you showed why i don't hunt with a sling on upland birds. Your hand got caught up in the sling and you had to move it out of the way to get a firm grip on the fore end. I thought for sure you'd miss that bird. I'll definitely be a new subscriber! 👍👍
Are you shooting a CZ all terrain? What shell and choke are you using?
Yes, it is the 12-gauge #CZUSA all terrain upland ultralight. I also have the 20-gauge model, which I often carry for grouse or all-day hunts. I’ve had really good luck with them. Love the magnets that keep loaded or fired shells secure when the action is open, and, luckily, the guns just fit me well. I’ve patterned them with the Huglu chokes that come with the guns and found them to provide consistent patterns. For this hunt I had Mod on the bottom (first barrel) and IM on the top. I was shooting #FederalPremium Ultra Pheasant copper-plated 5s, which is my go-to load for all things pheasant.
@@DakotaPheasantHunt thanks I just got one in 12 ga. and really like it. I’m using the same choke configuration. I had to shorten the length of pull. I also have the CZ sharptail sxs and it is also a great gun for the money.
Ya cz makes a good shotgun got a canvasback gold that my go to in 28ga
Roosters intuitively know how to use trees to their advantage. I'd bet a million dollars on it, lol. Nice video, thanks for sharing!
Thanks! We enjoy watching you and Sage hunt public land, too.
@@DakotaPheasantHunt That’s awesome! Thanks.
Wow your vids are really good post more plz
Great Video. Love to see the ShotKam added in.
hello amazing videos i have hunting videos on youtube
"you were a little left but thats ok".............
Nice dog work, looks like they were holding a little bit.
Thanks. A few held. A few others didn't. It's that time of year. The dog's an oldie but a goldie. He might not move as fast as he once did, but he does just fine for what we need. Good luck this fall.
