BIG MAC ! LEGEND AT PEAK !
Dick Enberg was the most annoying commentator ever to befall a television. Master of blabbing and statements of the obvious.
Why would you reveal in the thumbnail who won? Leaves us no reason to watch this.
God mode.
。
Jimmy is thr best ❤❤ 2024 ❤
Not sure there is a ball. Probably the best air tennis match I have ever seen.
Geez! Why is the picture quality soooooooo bad. You can’t even see the ball. Literally, not all all!
So humiliating for Jimmy Connors. Losing is one thing, but not like this, especially at the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world.
Grande il padrino❤
^
very harsh score for a final match
Just wondering if there's a way to access the complete match of the Women's final that year between Lindsay and Martina...? Any heade up would be really appreciated.
This couldn't possibly be anymore 1970's 😜
I went to Volvo Tennis Tournament in North Conway, NH just two days before giving birth to my daughter! Remember going one year when it rained and sat in the stands with a large garbage bag with cut outs for my arms and head, waiting for play to resume. Surely wish the nearest pro-tennis mates were still there-only 10 miles from where I live!
Ah thanks for Suspens!
It is less entertaining if one player dominates the other. Close matches are more dramatic. They also make more money for the advertisers.
Apex Mac. He was never at this level again, which sucks because honestly, he may have been the single most talented tennis player who ever lived.
1980 to 1984 John MacEnroe played all Wimbledon finals. Borg defeated him in 1980, MacEnroe defeated Borg in 1981 final. Connors defeated John in 1982 final, John MacEnroe defeated Cornors in 1983 Final... In 1984 John Macenro defeated Chris Lewis... This was John MacEnroe's last Wimbledon (Single's) trophy.... 😊 John MacEnroe was a a very special player...
In
one of the top best 5 finals ever
Only thing that beat McEnroe years later was just power from players who used different rackets and did there fear share of weighing lifting in the gym
An absolute masterclass in serve and volley tennis..Mc was unplayable in this tournament in 84
Sorry just realised it’s RUclips ads…
In the 1982 final, which Connors won in 5 sets, I think both players were in opposite states of mind. McEnroe was very disappointed at Bjorn Borg’s retirement at just 26 years of age, and had in fact tried to talk him out of it so that their great rivalry could continue. It’s was well known that Jimmy and John did not like one another at all, so I think McEnroe just wasn’t quite up for the clash. Jimmy on the other hand was approaching his 30th Birthday at the time, and for him Borg’s retirement must’ve been music to his ears, and he saw 1982 as his last chance to win Wimbledon once again, after having lost to Borg many times at Wimbledon. But Mac was well up for this one. By the way, is this how American sport is covered with all these darn commercial breaks during play?
On this day at Wimbledon in the summer of 1984, Connors was simply outclassed by a more talented opponent. When you think about the cocky early 70's days of Connors and Evert - "we're going to win everything". It didn't really work out like that did it, because neither gender saw Borg, McEnroe, Navratilova and others hurtling down the tracks towards them. Connors wouldn't even feature in the top ten of all time, and Evert was second best to Navratilova and / or Graff on so many occasions as to make it embarrassing for her. Silly self deluded Americans, a bit like "we didn't lose the Vietnam war!" Dearie me.
Why do these sportscasters sound so subjective? It pisses me off
Connors is unkind
Nessa final? Ele foi pulverizado.
Can you even see the ball
I've commented already below, but just to add that watching this 39 years ago was an afternoon of pure torture for me. I had high hopes that Jimbo would win, IF he played at his best. Connors had been getting better round by round, and he was really smoking by the time he played Lendl. It was unfortunate for him that, on the day, McEnroe was past the finish line before Connors was even out of the starting blocks. So I've just watched it all again, the first time I've seen the whole match since that day. I look upon it differently now; it's no longer painful to watch; nowadays I watch it with a new sense of appreciation for the way McEnroe played.
Crazy seeing Connors in a commercial for the legendary Pro Staff Original, that he helped develop, and him not using it for any meaningful amount of time.
All over just over the hour
Eighty four one way final. Conners was crap this year MC enroe was brilliant
This was so one sided three straight sets
It's a shame Connors was on his worst form that day. Mac's other matches in this tournament were way more interesting. His semi against Cash was a serve and volley classic!
blowing the french final to lendl didnt phase mcenroe, cant believe he won nothing after 84 , everyone predicted he would win in 85 but he lost to kevin curran in the wimbledon quarters and to lendl in the us open final who got revenge for the year before, hard to believe after 85 he never even got close again
In 1984 McEnroe was the God of the tennis courts the world over. Played incredible tennis.
Losing is one thing, but getting blown away like that in the final of the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world is too humiliating.
WASTE OF TIME CANT SEE ANYTHING
it is amazing to see how much federer improved from end of 2002 to beginning of 2004. his forehand got more consistent and he was hitting over his backhand not slicing it as much. when he won the 04 australian open that was the beginning of the federer we all know.
Tommasi, Clerici, Scanagatta e Lombardi.
Nobody in tennis history would have beaten Johnny Mac on this day. Simply Masterful!
I agree. I do not even know if Jimbo played that badly. It is just that Mac was too good.
Agreed. McEnroe 1984 was something truly special (only real blemish was throwing away the French). But this Wimbledon final was peak-84 McEnroe.....
Mac against prime Fed at Wimbly would have been something. Except it's difficult to judge cos the grass was much slower in Fed's time
John at the absolute peak of his powers. He had lost to Connors in ‘82 and definitely had a grudge coming into the match. This was the most dominant performance at this level I’ve ever seen.
Hello thanks for sharing this amazing footage. I would like to talk to you about via email for an investigation im doing about the Volvo International Tournament from 1973. Is there any chance that i can contact you via email?
