Cub Cadet 782 Revival - Hour Meter Relocation #solunagarage #isavetractors #cubcadet #revival
I think i have a good question for you. I have a dixon zeroturn with a cv16 high output. Sticker says its a cv15 tho. Anyways. Its always been a bit of a hard start but always started. Recently i was running it and it died. Had spark, and fuel. No compression. I did a head gasket, also had to use some timeserts. First start it kept flooding. Had to remove spark plug to clear cylinder two times. Third time i discontinued the fuel line and i got it to start. Connected fuel line and it was good, mowed the yard. It would start back up hot with choke on . Next day i go to start it up and nothing. Some poping but flooded before it could amount to any speed to get going. Same as first startup. I asumed it was the spark advance module. I did go for the cheapo 30 dollar ignition control module. Do you think my problem is its not the kohler version? Or do you know of something else that would cause this? I did clean lifters during rebuild so valves wouldnt stay open also checked flywheel key. Is good. Should i just get the kohler brand? Thanks in advance ç
Hello, just a quick question..would you use this on the 2166 16 hp ? Would it fit? Thanks
Yep, we actually have a 2166 with this installed on it. 👌🏼👌🏼
That's a good deal. Lots of small engine repair videos on your channel and I guess you know a lot knowlege about small engine repair. Are you up for a collaboration? Hipa supplies parts for small engines and maybe we would work together to help more people in the community.
We can discuss if you like. service@solunagarage.com
Best place to get seals/ gaskets for the 1440 ,1641 Vanguard engine in OH love these tractors, keep up the great work and great videos Thanks
We are a Gardner dealer, we get most of our parts through them. If you need anything, feel free to reach out to us. If you would rather shop online yourself, opeengines.com is a good place to find Briggs and Kohler parts at a reasonable cost Thanks for the comment, glad you are enjoying the videos 🦾
Just subscribed, if more people like me who works on old stuff knew about your channel, you would have a million subscribers! This video has helped me so much on my 682. Thanks for sharing with us! Take care
Thanks for taking the time to comment. We appreciate the support, it really makes a difference.
Referred back to this video today as I'm having intermittent ignition trouble once again with my ch 16 glad to see it
Hey Mike!
Prices on harnesses? They look very professional ope you can sell a ton
Thank you! Prices are live on our website. If you would like to have a harness made that you don't see listed, you can fill out our request form. We are constantly adding and updating our offerings. solunagarage.com/wiring-harness
What works good is to weld a square key stock on top of the tool and grind out the middle so it can compress more, I did this years ago and never had a problem with it Just easier to use 😊on daily basis
Nice! Will keep that mod in mind 🦾
I just finished a 50A deck. It mows better than the Haban 60 unless you install the rock guard back then they clump badly.
Yeah, I really like the 50A/C decks. They are the best old decks Cub made. They cut great and are super easy to repair and maintain.
I have a 1440 that blows fuses, replaced ignition and solenoid. Still blows on first position on ignition. Any ideas?
First position on the switch is RUN/LIGHTS. I suspect you have a short to ground on the positive wires going to the front or rear lights. I'd start there.
@@SolunaGarage Thank you. Greatly appreciated
That mows nicely!😊
For an old 44a it does great!
The quiet line were great machines, I had one, then got hooked on the 82 series major improvement. Only use now for snow removal 450 blower with an IH cab. Mow my own lawn with a walker MDD not even in the same category but I evolved over the years
The IH/CCC Cub line just kept getting better until they retired them. The 82 Series were a huge improvement over the Quietline, and the Cyclops again were an improvement over the 82 Series. All we can do now is save them and appreciate them for what they were and still are.
I have a complete 1720 With a very strong k18 $300.
So if you went to Home Depot and bought a new Cub Cadet, do you think that it would still be mowing 50 years from now? Like your 70's 1250 is? They are wonderful machines. I mow weekly with my 1978 1450. Thanks for a great video.
Thanks for watching! These truly are some amazing machines.
Very cool video I am a cub cadet garden tractor fan. I do not see many of these mowing any more mainly without deck and hooked up to a plow.
@kylebruhn thanks, we love these old vintage Cubs. It's a differing feeling mowing with something that is 50 years old.
@@SolunaGarage I have a 1450, 982 and a Loboy 154 and absolutely love them! Trying to buy a 1650 and a 782D right now.
My Cyclops loves to corrode the grounds as well. Easy to tell when it needs grounds cleaned. You turn the key off and the tractor just keeps running. As always thanks for the videos. Good stuff. Ken
Hey Ken - we are going to return to our full length videos soon. We have an update video coming this week. Thanks for sticking around!
Always fun to join you.
Thanks for sticking it out with us. We are working on our return to the full length videos this week 🙏🏼
If one wanted to look for a classic garden tractor to restore, what would you suggest. We don't have a lot of Cub Cadet. I am leaning towards a Wheel Horse or Troy Built tractor.
Wheel Horse or Gravely or Deere. Deere 300 Series would be an obvious choice. Wheel Horse 420-H would be a nice hydro tractor and more unique. Gravely G Series would be great if you want a gear drive.
@@SolunaGarage Thanks for you reccomendation
They are all great machines. I think what I would do is drive one of each and see what fits you best.
Your cheerleaders
Feels more like my oppressors...
I just picked up a 149 IH cud cadet...is there a way to put it into neutral so it can be pushed while i work on it.
Yup, you have manual hydro relief valves, under the tunnel cover. There should be a lever on the side of the cover that engages the two valves to allow you move the unit.
@@SolunaGarage I see the lever does it pull our or twist doesn't seem to be doing anything
@MrPotwinkles it rotates but may be broken, a lot of times the tab that engages the valves under the cover breaks off.
@SolunaGarage if I remove the plate, can I manually engage it?
Yes, there are two valves with small spring loaded buttons on top. They both need pushed down.
Does your center wheel touch the ground when your cutting grass cause mine don't on my 149 when I'm cutting grass, had to replace my 50c deck cause mine was rotted and new deck had front wheels on it where old one didn't have front wheels
Not typically, no. It's really just there for anti-scalping. If the ground is high and uneven, it will touch.
@SolunaGarage ok thanks appreciate it
So are planning on doing some pulling?
Nope, this build was requested by a customer who has a couple pullers.
Recently put a NOS kt17 II in our 682 and went through a $20 junk kt17 II and set it in our 582 to test,....no smoke Yay! time will tell...lol
Nice machine,! Rings may settle some.
Yeah, ten hours isn't much. It's also not been run at full operating temp under load the whole time. Just mowed with it today, it ran like a champ. Pretty happy overall, given how little we put into it. The old twins are tough boogers.
Subscribed. Thanks for the vid. I learned quite a bit. Over the last 2-3yrs I've acquired a few cub supers. Ie: 982's, 1572's, 2182, 1872 and a 2072. I know I'm gonna have to do this. Thanks again.
Glad we are able to help. Good luck with your Supers! Always good to hear of more being saved. Won't be long before they are pretty rare.
Nice! Easy enough.😊
Hope it helps people out. I know a lot of people are mystified by wiring schematics and troubleshooting.
I was hoping for a the o-ring size info that wasnt in the first video.
Which orings?
@@SolunaGarage The o-rings on the lift valve you took apart.
We have part of this videos series removed from the playlist because we found some new information regarding installation of the spool orings and will be updating it. That videos had the links to the orings, so we will edit this one with the part numbers. Thank you.
Part 1 Description is now edited to include these parts listings: 1RJG7 Spool O Ring (11mm x 16mm x 2.5mm) www.grainger.com/product/GRAINGER-APPROVED-O-Ring-11-mm-Nominal-Inside-1RJG7 3GCH7 Backing O Ring (.053 THK x.327 ID) www.grainger.com/product/GRAINGER-APPROVED-Backup-Ring-3GCH7 1KET4 Line O Ring 5/16” x 7/16” (-011) www.grainger.com/product/GRAINGER-APPROVED-O-Ring-011-1KET4
@@SolunaGarage thank you sir
Can you show how to start it properly? Choke all the way up and pull that button left side of steering wheel up? After it starts then push that button down and lower the choke?
The lever that moves up and down is the throttle. Throttle up at least half way. The knob below is the choke. Pull it out completely if the unit is cold or hasn't started in 3+ hours. When the engine starts, push the choke knob in. It should stay running.
@@SolunaGarage Thank you!
You got a great deal. Will make someone a great tractor/mower once you do your magic to it.
I think so too. We have ten hours on it now and it's been great so far.
The heart of it runs good worth keeping
Can you make a video on how to pin the governor gear ⚙️ or governor arm?
ruclips.net/video/ddaWHLzUcyE/видео.html We have a video that goes over this from our M18 revival 🦾
Doesn’t look like it uses any oil, id pull the motor fix the oil seal and hood, fuel shut off solenoid. It runs smooth and quiet, id say worth keeping!
It is a little more complicated with the Briggs, they are very touchy about oil leaks. It will need a full reseal and rings, most likely. Even though you don't see oil consumption, it definitely consumes some and pushes excessive fumes out the breather, which is why the engine is getting soiled. Still worth fixing, though, we agree!
I want one!
Awesome! Feel free to reach out. solunagarage.com/wiring-harness
Do you remember what torx socket size was used to remove the muffler bolts from the head? I have to remove mine and need to buy one. I would like to know what size I need to buy.
I do not, I would say a T30, but I'm not certain. I'll see if I have any extra laying around that I can confirm for you.
@@SolunaGarage Fabulous!
@donaldlemoine3032 the old bolts I have here from the repair are T45.
And you sir
Got a set at hf cheap
Sounds fine!
Yeah, not bad for an old Mag! A little clicky-clacky but most of them are with 1000+hrs
JB weld is some good stuff. I knew a marine mechanic that would repair outboard engine cracked blocks with it.
It's all about the prep. It does really well in static applications as long as you are careful to score the surface and clean it thoroughly.
May I ask, what does pinning the governer do?
ruclips.net/video/HIsOElTA9rw/видео.html We did a video on this when we went through another M18. Kohler has a service bulletin that advises pinning the governor shaft to prevent it from walking into the case and causing governor failure.
@@SolunaGarage good to know. Would the command 18 have something similar to this?
Very nice
Thanks 👌🏼👌🏼
End link joints. I replaced those with Himes Joint and thru bolt. Just like you have on the ends of power steering cylinder
Where's the hydrostatic fan located? It seems my lawn mower is overheating. I was planning on installing a cheap radiator 12v radiator fan on the side vent after cutting it and mounting it.
It's mounted to the driveshaft, under the fender pan, basically under the seat.
@@SolunaGarage thank you
Ahh some previous work!
Yeah.....nothing like it 😵💫
So is this the one I sent you?
Yep, I think this is the one.
@@SolunaGarage looks like you will make it a runner
@mitchrenee yup! I think the plan for this will be to use it as a chassis for mockup of the 82 Series/spread frame harnesses for a while though.
My name is Steve. I Have 2 cubcadets but my 1641 has the same issue as the one in your video but worse..
I know this isnt a great place to ask this but have you ever changed the pto output shaft oil seal on an 18 horsepower kohler command? Mine started leaking pretty good recently and i dont know if its an easy job. Just asking
Once you get the PTO off, that's an easy job. Just remove the old seal, being careful not to gouge the block or crank, then reinstall. Be mindful of the proper seal depth.
@@SolunaGarage thank you I'm only sixteen and I've never done an oil seal before. I've fixed a few things on my new to me 1864. I used your videos on the 1772 hydro control to put new plates on mine even though it only had 515 hours when I got it. Other than that it's been a great machine.
@colesbrochuresandtrucks3242 awesome! I started wrenching when I was really young, and it's a lifelong journey. You never stop learning.
Can't believe it just did it again
We got the jist, all good 😆
