    This might be an old video already, but I've been watching a bunch of electrical videos again. One channel I enjoy is a lineman here in Canada called Bobsdecline. I think he's talked about this a few times. I seem to remember someone else saying that these faults throw off a HUGE amount of RFI/EMI!

  • @grabasandwich
    @grabasandwich 22 дня назад

    I commented on your open neutral video a few years back. I remember one time I put my ladder on a pole, and was part way up to the telco lines when I started seeing sparks. I raced back down and backed away. I might still have it on video. What happened was the same style of bare secondaries were sagging down so loosely that they hit each other. A neighbor came out and said the fire dept was there the night before for the same thing. I guess when the power company responded, they didn't do much at the time, maybe due to heavy rain or wind. So just the action of me putting my ladder on the pole and shaking it caused them to touch again. I'm pretty sure the power company came out again while I was there, and the guy called it a "splash" ?? Anyway, more recently I got a call for a melted coax drop. Nearly the entire drop was melted! Customer said it was smoking the night before! I didn't even touch it and called the power company on behalf of the customer, fearing an open neutral. Lineman came 15-20 min later, proved it to the meter and said it was fine. I asked if I could cut the old drop while he was onsite, just in case. Of course nothing happened. I felt like an idiot, but he seemed nonchalant about the whole thing and didn't say much except he's never seen a drop melt that bad. I'm guessing the fault cleared itself after heating up somewhere between the meter and panel?? I told the customer if it melts again, call an electrician ASAP. I should check in again and see if it happened again or if they had a house fire.

I had to find out how to stop video and expand fuzzy pictures. There are two vacuum fuel pumps located on the side of the motor. Identical in parts, so order two rebuild kits. They are quite simple to take apart and rebuild, although the lower one is a bit of pain to get to the lowest bolt. I was able to unbolt the chassis frame (for lack of a better term) and that allowed the mid section to drop low enough to access it. I believe I had to disconnect a couple wires from the coil that pulled tight too. If I get in there again I’ll make another video

      This is a 4 cylinder. I honestly think this motor on this 19’ Reinell does great on fuel for what it is. At 20kts with the family on board I average about 4 gallons per hour, or put another way 5 nautical mpg. Not bad for a 55 year old motor.

    Greatly appreciate this detailed video! Any chance you’ve replaced the starter/solenoid? My grandfather handed down his 69 StarCraft super sport and 80hp merc800el. Unfortunately, after not being able use it during the record hot summer, it did not start today. Figured it was battery so replaced it, but no action. Took off the engine cover to get a better look and it seems the starter does not engage the fly wheel when the key is turned. Does this sound like anything you’ve dealt with? Will definitely be subscribing to save this video!

      I have removed the starter, and it is no fun! Make sure to remove all cowling and watch for tight wires as you push down on the mid section. This will make it easier to pull the starter out. There are a few bolts that just feel impossible to get to, but if I can do it I have faith in you!

      It could be possibly if a homeowner has a generator running and connected incorrectly into their house where it runs through the main breaker at the house and back into the grid. That's why it is very important when running a generator to open the main breaker at the house. Many lineman have been killed unfortunately due to this situation.

    as a fiber tech, when it comes to electricity, we usually have to deal with induced voltage caused by high power lines running parallel with our transport. I've never personally dealt with induced voltage in high enough numbers to be deadly, but I had a co-worker who was shocked into a stroke that doctors compared to being struck by lightning.

  • @milesparris4045

    I used to run an old car wash, and one day I noticed that when a vacuum would come on, the pole light above it would get really dim for a second and some of the others would get really bright. I knew there was an issue with the common but I couldn't find a problem in the wiring, so I got on the roof and tested for power at a splice where it went to the city and read about 20 volts, surged to 60 when someone started a vac. I called the city (It was on their side of the meter) but they claimed there was nothing wrong. I got a few feet of really heavy solid copper wire, cut a dozen 1 foot pieces, and used hose clamps to bridge the splice. Problem solved, and my "repair" is still there almost 30 years later.

  • @Mike-ij9vj

    That house might be unmaintained enough to have line-and-spool wiring. As others already suggested, the grounding rod should have picked up carriage to neutral. I could never convince my late father, instances such as this necessitate an amprobe. You can prove the fault by opening the connection, but that inconveniences the customer and may be dangerous.

    • @stargazer7644
      @stargazer7644 Год назад

      The ground rod has a much higher resistance to ground than any conductor with a path to back to neutral on that pole. The majority of the current isn't going to be going through the ground back to the pole.
