Here‘s my experience: It’s „catch 22“. Generally I am a creature of habit and prefer to stay on the same schedule as well. But even if I don’t complain and try to make the best of even a shitty schedule, everybody thinks (since I don’t complain) that my shift must be a desirable shift to work on and sure enough…a few days later my supervisor comes moseying along and (in a passive aggressive way) tells me some b.s. about him/her *having* to change my shift because I can’t have it just „my way“ _all_ the time. It’s because I don’t complain, that people think that I have things going my way and *they will not stop* until I feel as miserable in my job as they do. So what should I take away from this? The squeaky wheel gets the oil? And: People are so disgusting, even if nothing changes for them, but someone else gets a change to the worse, they start feeling better already. 🤮

Bartending and serving is relationship based it isn’t based on the place or food per say. When I was in the circuit, I watched patrons follow bartenders if they left or got let go, to their new place of employment. The regulars come because of the staff. Changing that up affects everything. 🍸🍷🍺

This manager knows exactly what she's doing. She has people waiting in the wings for the shifts she's taking away from Faith. Also, Faith is probably making a lot more in tips than the other wait staff, and there have been complaints about that. Finally, if Faith has been there a long time, she's used to doing things a certain way--her way, not the new manager's way. These managers don't care a bit about the good of the restaurant: "new brooms sweep clean." That's how it is everywhere and Faith had better start looking for a new job, because the hounding is only going to get worse. Not to mention that once Faith is gone, the place will probably start to lose once loyal customers. It's ALL about management's EGO and has zero to do with the success of the place. Welcome to American Business Management 101: How Best to Run Your Project Into the Ground.

What is this "overtime pay" you speak of? Sure sounds nice. Every professional job I've had, employers work to maximize overtime as it is "free". Not just not having to pay extra, but not having to pay at all. In some cases, the "free" overtime was then directly billed to customers. USA government calls this "exempt" and it is a massive loophole.

My response to this manager: "Look, people have their schedules the way they are for a myriad of reasons, no sense trying to fix what's not broken. If you go ahead and try to force it anyway, people are just going to put in their 2 weeks and walk out."

Sometimes it's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. It's funny how they can deny her a serious health-related absence, then turn around and expect her to treat THEIR emergency as though it should constitute an emergency on HER part...but that's the corporate world (although I guess I was just lucky).

Ah yes, had a manager get mad cause I used time I had, which doesn't roll over, in lieu of sick time which I was out of due to FMLA. My primary manager was fine with it, approved use of it and all, but this one was like 'That was sick time, why did you approve it?' To which my manager brought me in and I presented the policy and union agreement that says I can use Holiday/Admin leave in lieu of sick time when sick time isn't available and they must approve use of it as long as I have it since they don't pay it out, and it doesn't roll over at the end of the year.

Lol. Fin. Controller tried that one with me after making the procurement supervisor redundant. Wanted me to supervise 2 depts. I told her to tell me exactly what it entails. She deferred to the accountant who was present and said she would let me know. Neither came back to me months after . However the accountant came one day and asked me to approve work of a staff member who worked in the procurement dept. She left the papers on my desk. I simply ignored her and the papers. She came back later and asked me if I had approved them. I told her I was still waiting on the discussion. She snatched the papers up and grumbled something and went on her miserable way. Never heard from either one of them again. Long and short of it , only 8 hrs in a day. I am not a machine. She sent home that supervisor because she was being vindictive. I am in no way aiding and abetting the devil.

Shut up, take notes, ask if you don’t understand. Ask *again* if you didn’t understand the first time. ASK *one more time* if you’re drawing a blank, but perhaps it is time to take step by step notes (a cheat sheet) until you’ve reached a certain level of confidence.

It's called "purchasing liability". Manager didn't know the overtime authorization policy, she bought eight hours of someone's time. Note: DO NOT work for a "non-profit". There's no "over" -time there. (Especially religious-group non-profits. As God is my witness, you go to Hell to save the wicked and stay there for the scenery.)

I want to work the place that eat floor managers for lunch. After the last floor manager quit the shift manager come up and asked us who want to be promoted. I told him "I don't want to go to jail". He asked a few others and got the same or similar response. Finally he just picked someone at random and said congratulations you're the new floor manager. The guy quit on the spot. 2 weeks later I got me a job somewhere else. They want me to do an exit interview before they give me my last paycheck. The chef Manor was there and he asked me what did I mean about going to jail when he offered me the position. A conversation with something like this. SM "what did you mean about not wanting to go to jail when I offered you the floor manager position?" Me "I have seen the way you treat floor managers. Always yelling whooping and hollering at them. Even poking him in the chest with your finger." SM "So what foes that have to do with going to jail?" It was quite common for drivers to nail blocks of wood to the floors of trailers to keep the load from shifting. At any given time we had a half a dozen crowbars on the loading dock to remove the wood and clean up the floors. Me "well if you to come up and yelling at my face poking your finger on my chest I would have went for a crowbar. That is how you get sent to jail." The assistant plant manager hand him in my paycheck said thank you we should cans and I left. I found out later they fired the shift manager. Seems like nobody before me had actually explain why they was quitting in such detail.

Loved this video. It reminded me of the time I got a job at a local movie theater working concessions. One of my coworkers was stealing money from the cash register. My niece, who was also working there at the time, was accused of it. But one day I witnessed the actual thief taking money from the register and slipping it into her pocket. I reported her to management, who called the police and confirmed it via security footage. I remember being very nervous about reporting and signing a police statement until I was informed there was security footage backing me up. My niece still quit bc of the way she was treated before the thief was caught. Shortly after that, I found a higher-paying job and moved on myself. The theater was eventually bought by AMC and remodeled. I imagine they have even better security these days. If only the thievery didn't continue via ridiculous prices! lol

My friend worked at a place that would promote her for a brief time during certain times of the year and up her pay for it and then back to normal role after the time period. People who were GARBAGE would get promoted permanently in her section that should not have been. She's at another place and it's never similar other then she's not getting brief promotions. Also one girl that got a promotion that honestly she should have got is dating their managers son and does f all all day. She has no way to prove it or how to send it up as a complaint. I kept telling her to leave but she won't. One reason is she refuses to save money at all so if she had for one year she would have something to hopefully save her until she got a better job.
