I also forgot to add the fact that the specific dollar general line they had was an amalgamation of various lines of clones so depending on which week you went were you going to get matchbox clones, Arco “Rambo” clones, Airfix clones, or these and a couple other unique line of poses. I want to say there were at least 7 to 10 different lines of poses sold under the combat zone branding cast in that green and grey and also in a brownish Tan.

I have been searching for these guys for years! I know you’re probably the first person to document them. They were sold at dollar general back in 1999 or 2000. I got mine in a bag of green under the header card of Combat Zone but these as far as I know completely original I accidentally threw mine away when we cleaned out our old store building and has been my biggest regret. I am so glad to see them again !

Yes... They were sold at toys R us. I bought 5 tackle boxes of them at the store in Lancaster P.A. in 1999. So it was before your time. They also sold the BMC D-DAY AND IWO JIMA PLAYSETS at the same time 👍

I have this set and the one that came with the small field gun. They came on thick part trees. Took some work to clip them and then file down the excess plastic. Well worth the effort though, never had Italian soldiers before.

The black feather is worn by the bersaglieri, which founded as a light infantry with high marksmanship standards and originally was used to shade the sun from their eyes when shooting.

there are 3 different 1/32 scale ww2 italian sets from this brand...this infantry set, and two folgore division (airborne) sets, the one you mentioned with the cannon and another one without cannon and different figures...the two folgore sets have the same artwork on the box so it can be confusing

I used to go down to my local off licence to buy their cartons off soft drinks and their bags of soldiers. The soldiers came in 3 colours tan, brown and green. They used to come with a lot of broken picex at the bottom of the bag but not from the soldiers in the bag. I don't recognise the pink and yellow flag in the set you have. I think I have some of these in my collection!

I use testers paint and as long as you prime them they will last along with a sealant coat .
