Two questions, I am in NI. I sell on eBay vinted and Amazon, 90%; to the mainland, can I still do that ok are we sure…?? Just Ni to NI?? Second question does the GPSR apply to used clothing ? How likely are other selling platforms to follow this move?

Who cares about eBay I never buy anything of there now to many sellers never reply if there’s a problem with an item!! There’s better sites now than eBay!!

This isn’t really anything to do with eBay, it’s part of the ‘Brexit Bonus’. The whole thing comes about because the UK left the EU, and the special arrangement negotiated with respect to Northern Ireland to prevent the border between it and the Republic of Ireland being sealed.

I think it's possible that most of the product information required will most likely be available in a drop down menu, most of the options that populate the drop down boxes would have been gathered from ebay sellers who have gone to the trouble to gather the info, so hopefully saving time.

Ended up having to close down my ebay. Selling on etsy and vinted now.

Very helpful video. I am hoping that Ebay are just trotting out these default regulations to be seen to be implementing them properly but by playing dumb to any of the finer details will largely not police it strictly. That is the big question - how is going to police all this? Are the EU & Northern Ireland going to employ thousands of extra people to make sure all the necessary paperwork is in every parcel they import or export?

Its nrexit. It is now too expensive for nortern Ireland to sell. Its gone. Your not part of europe anymore. Pay extra to join the market. Your knackered. No one is ever going to buy from the north again. Britain could not give a toss. Bad decision.

Ebay is doing the same from what I can make out when trying to purchase goods out of American to the UK , I have been buying vehicle parts for years but not anymore by the looks of things . I tried to buy a vehicle manual on a buy it now gave up in the end now USA sellers will loose out on sales .

Back boilers were like hidden bombs back in the day. People would paint over the safety pressure valve, rendering it useless over time. Then, one cold and wintery day, the thing would heat up superheated steam, and with no outlet, the fireplace would end up on next doors roof along with the family that were sitting around it.

I really wanted to watch this to the end but a 1 min advert every 5 mins is just too much and with no way to tun off it's too much, so sitting through 41 mins and 6-7 1 miute ads is too much, sorry sort this out and you may get more watches as subscribers.

I'm guessing private sellers are excluded from gpsr ? . It's crazy that a UK seller is bound by gpsr to sell to NI 😮😮

I'm a fellow Northern Irishman and I have been with eBay for about the last 12 years. I have accumulated over 500 transactions without a single negative feedback. I should say that I have been an amateur buyer and seller. In other words, I don't depend on eBay for my main income. I'm simply an amateur woodworker and most of my transaction relate to buying or selling e,g. exotic wood, tools etc. During the past year I've tried to buy certain items mainly from England and the answer I get is "We don't post to Northern Ireland". I really feel for you as it's your main business. If there is any help I can give you please please let me know.

It's bonkers. This sounds like an issue for the UK government to sort out. Given the appalling abilities and distorted priorities of the current government, there's no chance of a solution. Although this is a situation arising from Brexit, the problem is the EU regulations, perhaps a petition method may work, but it comes back to the problem that the UK had pre-Brexit in getting issues dealt with.

I am also a Northern Ireland eBay seller. Used goods, so from what I have read through your comments the GPSR may not apply. But who ever thought up a set of rules that would allow you to sell to other countries, but not your own where you are based? I have used eBay heavily for more then 20 years too as a consumer, often sourcing stock as it allowed an easy marketplace for many things not available locally. It looks like those days and likely my business are about to end.

Hi BigAL, thanks for taking the time to make this video and do the research. I truly hope it doesn’t affect your business in the long term! Here is a point to ponder..so if you buy a used toy, clothing item, electrical item on EBay it will have to confirm to these crappy regulations, but if you go into a charity shop on the high street and buy exactly the same item it won’t? Can you imagine if you asked the nice old lady volunteering in a charity shop at the till “Excuse me, but do you have the GSPR information on this item?” I just wonder what she would say? And will this legislation affect charity shops in general??

This whole thing is terrible but surely there’s 10x more private sellers in the uk then there’re business sellers. So surely it won’t impact NI too much. Still 1000s of UK private sellers to buy from. Or have I got that wrong?

Very Good info, thanks. I've had a listing taken down by Ebay due to this all ready, It was very bizarre. Got a message saying my item would be hidden, if i didn't upload these stupid documents. Even more weird, the item in question had already sold.

Why should anybody care about NI?

The European Union. The disgusting gift that keeps on giving. More red tape, more control, more inhuman policies. This is what everybody votes to keep? Delusional. What’s strange is Big Al, you canvas for the Alliance Party? It’s a pro EU party in Northern Ireland. A party that serves 3 masters depending on what day of the week it is. Big-Al, keep up the good work. I live in NI and sell full time on eBay as well so you have my full support on this matter. One thing you say that continually frustrates me is when you say you don't understand why NI are lumped in with the EU for this - its because since Brexit all goods sold in NI are part of the EU single market by default. The only reason we don't have to pay customs tax (like when ROI purchase from GB) is down to the Windsor Framework, as we can declare goods are "not at risk" of entering the EU and are remaining in the UK. For NI to be exempt from this GPSR, it would also need to be written into the Windsor Framework, but there doesn't seem to be any political will to do so. As you say, would there even be any point as it will also hit the rest of GB in the near future soon, so so everyone is going to have to update their listings eventually. I'm going to keep selling as is after the 13th Dec and see what happens. All my items are currently "in" Northern Ireland, so I'm not selling "into" here. They aren't crossing any border so I don't see how legally they can fine/arrest me. Surely that only applys to the GB -> NI sellers. I know eBay aren't responsible for the change in GPSR, but they should be providing proper guidance on where we can find the information we need to put on our listings to make them legal. You should book a 1:1 seller clinic on eBay to see if they can help update a listing with the proper info for a single product and report back!!

For ebay you can switch off selling to NI however if the address states UK they can still buy from a mainland seller. I get this all the time where i switched NI off as parcels were getting held up but people were still able to order as they have Uk in the address line.

eBay are NOT the authority on GPSR and neither should we treat them as such. Everyone needs to see ‘Ensuring a smooth transition between GPSD and GPSR’ by CENELEC. Does the GPSR also apply to all products already available in the portfolio, meaning, must a risk analysis be conducted retrospectively for these products as well, or does it only apply to newly developed and provided products? GPSR applies to products placed or made available on the market as of 13 December 2024. It does not apply retroactively (cf. Art 51 of the GPSR).

Of course you can sell into n ireland..you just can't with eBay..

I totally agree with you in that this has been planned. They don't want any small traders making an independent living. Or, they will make it bloody difficult to do so. I'm 62. For years, I worked for myself doing Double Glazing repairs. I'd worked on various building sites. All you needed was a bit of common sense and to go through an induction for a morning, before you were allowed to work on a particular site. Now, one has to go on a training course to obtain a CSCS card. It costs money. It's a bit like me telling Granny how to suck eggs. But I'm not allowed on a site any more, because I refuse to pay to go on a course where some young whipper snapper tells me how I have to conduct myself on a site.
