Good Idea about the laminate for a base
@@darrenjames9422 thanks!
Nice video but you've made a serious error. The weight of the bins is supported by it's lip which is transferred to the 1x then to the 2x and finally the joists. The 2x is secured with lag bolts but since you sank them parkway through the 2x only the wood screws are supporting the entire weight of the bins . If you only plan light loads then lag bolts are wasted. If you plan heavy loads then the lag bolts are doing little for you as the screws are the weak link. Something else to consider is are these bins designed for hanging and if so what is their weight limit? Also plastic WILL eventually crack and if cold enough may propagate quickly causing complete failure at the lip. Bins sitting on shelves as designed are not being stressed and therefore are not a potential fall hazard. Use longer lag bolts and appropriate washers and properly secure the 1x and 2x to the joist. You'll note the manufactured rails are one piece - for a reason. At least the ones I've seen. Thanks for the effort.
Love it
@@jimgreenhouse214 thanks!
What’s the dimensions for the area containing the stars?
@@BrentBordelon-y1s it's basically 7x10"
im making my third one right now, im just mostly concerned about oversaturation of the market
@@WilliamDiaz-p2h that's a huge issue. It's hard to differentiate your product. I'm interested to see how things go after the holidays too. My guess is it will be super slow until mother day, fathers day, July 4 comes back around.
@@wooddoofus oh yeah, I like the idea of making these and selling its just hard for me to see making good money off it.
Flag looks great. I always overthink projects which often causes procrastination to just do it. Your video is a good reminder to just do it. Thanks for the tips!
@@timothystutzman thanks for watching!
Thanks. Making a spacer was tha part I was missing. Makes sense once I saw it. I was just using the tape measure.
@@jasondinnell8525 thanks for watching!

Nice! Thanks.
Well done! What size router bit did you use? What was your final depth, you called it the maximum depth? Thank you!
@@DallasHarris-w2p I think I used a 3/4" straight bit mostly bc it's all I had but it worked well. Since I was using 3/4 material, my depth was about 1/2". Different clock hardware seem to have different amount of threads so I had to keep seeking up on the depth until enough threads were showing on the other side for proper install. Thanks!
Good idea to clamp strips together and grind and paint separately, instead of gluing them together. I find it difficult to get the tape down securely to prevent bleeding. good video.
@@joegarcia4420 thanks. I can't imagine how much tape I would have to use if I glued it first. I've sold 56 flags since I started this video.😁

@@AnnevanRossum the sides were 2x6s.
i checked out the barn red at lowes, it looks orangish on paper and samples they have in store. how many coats did you do? do you wipe off or just leave it on there
@@republicofu.s9642 just one coat. It's definitely a vivid red. I don't wipe it off simply as a time saving issue. Sponge brush works great. One important step to a good color is the burning of the surface. It really helps it take the stain. A good sanding at least. But I've never had an issue with orangeness. Thanks!
i appreciate the fast response. Forgot to ask, Lowes also has the solid or transparent stain in these colors. do you know what yours is?
@republicofu.s9642 it's definitely solid. Not transparent.👍
@@wooddoofus thank you 🫡
What about the Kutzall Extreme Course Disc? Seems like it would be closer and maybe smoother than the $9 disc. Or after using the $9 disc, then use Flap discs on your other grinder to speed up the smoothing. I have done draped flags with a 60grit flap disc and it moves smooths wood nicely.
@@Bob-More-Than-Enough-WC thanks for the input. What you're saying makes sense. It might be worth the price to get the smoother results of the heavier grit kutzall.
thank you sir for the tipps very good on the drawers
if you put a piece of ply under the flag being glued up you can make several of these and let them dry

I’m normally working with metal and learning really quickly that working with wood brings unpredictable problems. Your make it work approach helped me relax and prove in the end I can make it right. Don’t stress it! Threes always a way to fix it as ya go. Loved the video 😊
You can cut the pvc off with a piece of string like builders line. Just go around the back of the pvc pipe with the string and work the string back and forth and it will cut the pipe off 😊
Wow, you're the first person I've seen use a heat gun, and I really like the galaxy/nebula effect that it leaves. Thanks for that idea. After seeing that, I wonder what kind of effect some UV lights or blacklights would have on it. Maybe some plant growing lights. I've heard that if you're working with unglued pieces, before leaving it out in the sun to rub it down with acetone first.
@@CountDabulaTV sounds fun! Let me know how it turns out if you try it. 🙂
I really like your system. It’s well thought through. The idea of grinding the flag before glueing it together I don’t see very often. Thank you for sharing.

Every time I put 2 pieces of treated lumber together, one of them rots.
Star template
Iadw the star templates on my Cricut machine. I make a fresh one for each flag. Not sure if your asking anything but that's what I came up with. Thanks!
When you talk about having to push through the smugness of some of the professionals, I feel there is one that stands out in particular. I feel like I'm reading your mind. 😂
Good vid. I was getting ready to make my materials list when I realized I have a mixture of 27 gallon totes (from Menards, Lowes, Home Depot) Just a caution for your viewers - my totes are all the black with yellow top (50 of them). But they are two different widths and lengths! Easy to spot now-the designs on the tops are different and the lids are not interchangeable. Not an issue if you make 2 different racks...I'm keeping one brand in my garage and the other brand in my work shop. Thanks for the good vid. 🤠😁
@@prow6586 good call! Thanks for the comment!
Dude, I'm freaking impressed. Let me tell you why. This is your first time and you did the job the correct way. Whoever gave you instructions instructed you correctly. And not to mention , you followed the steps. There are plumbers that I see on a regular that don't ream out their copper before using sharkbites. So kudos to you, man!!! 🔥🔥🔥
the funniest video was a youtube carpenter making a beginners table saw fence ... in the video he used a joiner and planer. " the perfect is the enemy of the good . "
You don’t like dogs ? - They can detect fits before they even happen. - they can sniff out ilnesses. - they work in drug, mine and gun detection. - they help in search and rescue. - they help guide the blind - they help people with ptsd - they support people in need of emotional support. - they protect properties and people. - they are also incredibly athletic, loyal, beautiful, smart .. But yeah you’re right pfff dogs suck.

Cheaper and safer to buy metal rails nowadays. But good idea other than side sliding the totes, it is easier to access them by front sliding them in.

How mad were your neighbors hearing that planing all day. I'm doing a board and batten 10x20 post and beam shed and plan on planing one side of the rough sawn for the whole thing. Gonna get loud!
@@jwall62 🤣 I've definitely had conversations with neighbors so they feel comfortable letting me know when it's not a good time for me to be loud. I do my best not to run anything too early or too late. Good luck on your project!
@@wooddoofus I've got a bunch of 14's. Luckily I don't need to make sure they're flat, so no helper boards.
“Sometimes they’re very smug in their videos, but that’s just what you gotta deal with.” Lol. Yep. And they’re all over the help forums, too. Very smug.

Thats cool but it'll oxidize and turn brown over time. Theres nothing that can keep it purple forever. It always oxidizes.

I’m finishing up building my deck with my father in law. Thanks to my wonderful wife she had to get her dad involved. I’m very thankful he helped(since I never built a deck before) but what he had in mind and what I have in mind were complete opposites. He seemed to do the minimum to build a basic deck. Me on the other hand would have rather had an overbuilt, decorative deck and done my posts similar to yours. I would have loved to use cedar wood or possibly high quality composite decking. I’d rather save up my money for the highest quality material I can afford and take my time building it in hopes I’ll get a very long life from it.
I'm glad to have found this video as I've been wanting to update my bathroom and one of the projects was to reverse the doors on my contractor grade white laminate bathroom vanity with soft close hinges. Then adding Shaker trim and painting it with Retique it wood paint to make it look like an antique wood dresser that has been repurposed as a vanity. Last steps will be to change out fixtures from silver tone to antique brass look and add matching hardware to the cabinet and false drawer front. Paint walls and ceiling with Benjamin Moore colonial blue and use a bathtub sealer to freshen the fiberglass insert to a solid white with tile added to the wall header. Finally, an antique round mirror for above the sink.

Best measure in mm as 1 13/16ths " = 71mm & 8' x 4' = 2440mm x 1220mm, also measure 3x's cut once that way no loss of wood due to incorrect measurements plus all he had to do to reduce the dust was attach the dust extractor + a hose & collection bag as loose dust on the floor is a major trip hazard. Remember to measurements in millimeters not inches as 1mm = 1/25.4inches also the building trade works in millimeters to be most accurate.
