This is a blueprint so you can recover the god within. It isn’t just a fairy story.
36:32 According to almost every article found on Google, Tortillas are apparently from 10,000 B.C.E! That's 12,000 years ago! 😂 Meanwhile, they don't domesticate maize at all until 9000 B.C.E. 🤔
I knew David was great but having a cat has reinforced this fact.
Is there any chance you all could upload Dr. Chuchiak's talk from the March 26th 2021, I believe from Maya at the Lago that year? (your website doesn't have archived program information for older Maya at the Lago conferences so I can't verify). It was an amazing presentation and i'd love to be able to direct people to it to watch!
Thanks! I searched online for a talk by Dr Stuart, after reading Michael Coe's book. Prof Coe also mentioned the opposition from some archaeologists, which seems bizarre to me (an interested layman).
💜💛
Great video! How can I learn more about Mayan archeology?
The stamina to keep the pace of narrative is commendable. An absolutely entertaining and engaging oration.
Fascinating survey of an amazingly dynamic field of study by a very articulate person who has revolutionized our entire understanding of development in the American continent. Thank you David Stuart!
Super!!! Bravissimi
Dr. Chuchiak's powers of storytelling are so engaging! Not only is this one of the most fascinating lectures I have ever heard, but his manner of presenting the material is provocative and exciting. Very enjoyable and informative! Thank you for making this video available online!
Excellent lecture! Do we have any information on how many times this concept of heat or cold within the body has emerged independently across the world? I have heard of it in Eastern healing as well. If there is a connection here, does it support the hypothesis that this concept is post-Columbian? Thank you for making this fascinating lecture available online!
Fisher's compulsion to direct her efforts and research towards indigenous land tenure and food sovereignty is very admirable. I especially appreciate how she went directly to the people who live on the land and shared their lives and experiences. This is an excellent presentation and definitely worth a second or third viewing. Very much appreciate the distinction and elaboration of some of these terms, such as ejido, milpa, and homestead farming. Fantastic work and very compelling.
Love this talk, and the intricate detail and graphics--will definitely watch again. Fascinating to see how the archeological process suggests ancient diets and food storage techniques. Dr. Morell-Hart's intellectually balanced view of heirloom farming in the age of industrial agriculture is most appreciated and shows (in my opinion) great wisdom. She says: speak to the farmers themselves. Exactly.
How does one borrow and enjoy another culture without using that "experience" to exploit the culture in question? How can one seek to "experience" another culture without stealing something from it simply to build up the power of one's own culture? These are very intriguing issues. Thank you, Dine and Arden for putting these Netflix shows under the microscope and (with respect) "on trial" for their appropriations.
This was such a treat, to be able to participate in this informative workshop that takes you all the way through the actual cooking process with the comale and the molcajete. Thank you for making this available online! 🙏🙏 I am gratified to learn that allspice is Mesoamerican, but cumin is not 😮also, this issue of the clay comale--and therefore tortillas--not being found in ancient Mesoamerica is very interesting. For anyone who was intrigued by this idea, you can watch this video for more info (Dr. Marc Zender on Maya Foodways, also from this conference): ruclips.net/video/qnLp1jiqRpk/видео.html.
Thank you so much for making this fascinating lecture available online. So, is the consensus that there was no tortilla-making at all, or are we simply saying that there is no archeological evidence for tortillas? I understand from the lecture that we do not find any tortilla griddles--is it not possible to bake a thick tortilla-like cake on a hot stone?
I love the cat!!
