Film Club on 3: The Pillow Book (introduction by Barry Ronge, 1998)
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.10 лет назад
After decades of censorship, the early years of South African democracy saw an exploration of boundaries, especially in the media. Film critic Barry Ronge presented a series of films on SABC 3 which often pushed the envelope, but the 2000s saw a reverse in this trend.

Louise Bourgeois on Mapplethorpe
Просмотров 32 тыс.13 лет назад
"In 1982 Mapplethorpe and I were censored by the Museum of Modern Art when his photograph of me holding Fillette was labeled pornographic. They reproduced the portrait but cropped out the sculpture. I met Mapplethorpe on the occasion of that portrait. At that time he was preparing his show of crosses on red velvet with great seriousness. Pornography is nothing new. We have the rape of Europa by...
"Robert Having His Nipple Pierced" - Documentary excerpt
Просмотров 105 тыс.13 лет назад
During the voice-over to Nigel Finch's documentary on Mapplethorpe (currently available in its entirety at www.ubu.com/film/mapplethorpe_arena.html), it is claimed that: "In its day, Robert Having His Nipple Pierced achieved some notoriety as an underground classic, and even had the dubious distinction of alerting Andy Warhol to the potential of movie making." Considering that most of Warhol's ...
No way she mentioned Mongolia, that’s insaneeee
❤
Does anyone know where one can watch the full documentary online?
I found it on Vimeo typing "Arena - Robert Mapplethorpe (1988)" if that helps !
Hi, Thank you so much for uploading this. I was wondering if you have the audio of Patti Smith Poetry Reading at Columbia University (New York) April 3, 1975? Please let me know

Beautiful. Steve Haas on drums, apparently.
love the ending of this so much
rip louise she would have luuvd jorbama
Let us say this interview illuminates what I saw in Bourgeois: A gaslighting psychopath who wanted to humiliate Mapplethorpe for his love of beauty or love or men. This act of her is UGLY.
The first song sounds like the Star Wars robots talking. Anyone?
was gonna say the same thing

Their behavior was disgusting and egoistic. They had no shame to do this in front of Patti, Robert's girlfriend of 7 years. I can imagine how heartbreaking it was for her. Two narcisstic, vain idiots! I've no respect for this kind of peoples.
she said herself that she didn't care! now cool it with the projection!
She plays that Moog like Albert Ayler plays Tenor Sax. Incredible feel and expressive quality for such a complex contraption.
You sure that's not Paul Bley?
Who else is so girly + grown up , so street wise + innocent. Like God she doesn't change.
She was such a spectacular human and artist....and she gave in her salons right to the end! Brilliant
still love it!!
Christ died for somebody’s sins but not mine
I can't believe i found this! oh wait, of course I can, I did! haha or it found me. or I found my self. AAHHHIdk i've been listening to too much alan watts. Have a blessed day my loves
Found this after listening to Alan Watts as well. This is quite amazing. It's all a big wiggle. Hope you have good days ahead. :) PS: Cool videos. :)
She is timeless!
I was there.
Reading "Just Kids" and had to hear her reading poetry. Thank-you Patti Smith for your fine art of beautiful soul felt expression.
Me too!
She goes back further and better .. comes back the same
🐐
where do i find the transcript version of this?
www.einaudi.it/catalogo-libri/narrativa-straniera/narrativa-di-lingua-inglese/il-sogno-di-rimbaud-patti-smith-9788806141561/ Italian with English text.
Polyphonic recently posted a video about Horses, and at 4:32 there's a transcription photo. I don't know if it's complete, but it might help. ruclips.net/video/SabdGoeuYMc/видео.html

A rare archived recording. Thanks for this. 🙂
Does anyone know where I can find the full original art film, not the documentary that includes it?
What I love about this is that it documents Mapplethorpe and David Croland in 1970. There aren't that many films from that time showing this kind of tenderness between a male couple.
Yes! Caught me with the first line
This is so good! Thank yoy
Freaking incredible. She was WAY ahead of her time.
wow !
I've had this on CD since I can remember. I recently came across a CD called SPOKEN WORD OF THE PROPHET and it's exactly the same show as DEODORIZE THE NIGHT. So for all the PATTI SMITH die hard fans you can have 2 of them with totally different covers and names. AWESOME
God how I wish I could have seen her starting off at these readings... born too late.
also sold under the name READINDS FROM THE PROPHET. I WAS THERE IN AWE
Oh yes it is Patti Smith. I recognize the very special she said "no fear" at 0:36 She always say these two words the same way since ... always. I don't know why :-)
Yes!
I LOVE Patti's voice and singing, but I love her poetry! It's the first types of art she did before music and singing, and I think she does it great!
The doctor who pierced Robert's nipple was poet-doctor Herbert Krohn, a friend of mine who lived at the Chelsea at that time. He told me he refused, in good conscience, to pierce the nipple because it could do harm, possibly cause cancer. Instead, he pierced slightly above the nipple. Mapplethorpe was angry at him because he wanted the nipple pierced.
It was pretty rude, plenty of people nowdays get their nipples pierced with little consequences
Mapplesthorpe was an idiot. In fact, a perverted idiot ...
Wait, what?! Nipple piercings cause cancer??
@@dewilew2137it was the 1970s …
Man she loved him
The prom on Renee Falconetti is incredibly awful "balls, balls, balls, Renee Falconetti has got balls, balls, balls'
Sandy Daley made this film and is still living in NYC . She also gave Robert his first camera.
yes
Patti Smith inspired me to start a poetry band. Check out the music on our channel. Or on this link conches.bandcamp.com/album/in-habit-2
patti's voice is absolutely precious.
