such tenderness and poignancy. He songs will endure
such purity! I am uplifted!
Such a great composer! I am loving his music more by the day!
Sounds a lot like Schumann, particularly the third movement! He was no doubt influenced by him.
I can't help noticing that Colombo ignores pretty much all of the dynamics markings. That spoils it for me.
Claudio Colombo is not a real person and is an alias for somebody who puts out MIDI renditions
The Woodland Sketches and the Sea Pieces are better IMHO
MacDowell
Love it ❤❤❤❤❤❤
This work is fully harmonic is texture with no melody line to be found. Several instances of chromaticism to create dissonance that is mostly unresolved in traditional ways. It is heavy and dense in texture with sudden changes in dynamics and vocal production.
Beautiful! We are singing Menie for the University Chorale at BYU and I couldn't find a song to reference anywhere until I came across this one! Thank you for a beautiful reference :)
These are so charming!
it makes my head explode that primo is on the left side of the screen.
Those are some frantic gnomes
Those hand stretches make beautiful music uncomfortable to play.
#3 is quite charming and tender
de la très belle musique !!
Un grand compositeur "Listzien" !
No 3 start of second section. pianist clearly not paying attention (to rhythm) in its first measure
que asco... pensé que era interpretación humana
Thank you so much for including the score to this beautiful music; it makes all the difference!
makes me think of Grieg's Holberg suite
This music is as wonderfully intricate and sublime as any composed by the Romantic masters. And it's here brought to life by the incomparable mastery of James Barbagallo --- a unique and gifted talent departed way too soon.
it is beatifull! Hello from Russia!!! ^_^
Love the Fancies, fun to play & teach
Merci.
Barbagallo was _the_ MacDowell interpreter.
MacDowell's best set of lyrical salon pieces. He had definitely found his own voice and it's a great shame that he was unable to build on his success as one of the most celebrated performers of his day.
le début de la n°4 c'est l'île joyeuse de Debussy
It’s just a trill
Beautiful! Still hope to hear the rendering of real pianists instead of the computer, though :)
James Barbagallo was a Pianistic genius.....he was a Colleague Of Mine In Juilliard During the 1970s . He was an Incredibly nice Person .
This suite is weeping for an orchestra. Beautiful music, Rachmaninoffian (a word?).
Beautiful!
Oh, God! This is extremely beautiful! I knew MacDowell before, but this suite is just genial! It's should be played around the world in all concert halls, such wonderful music!
Some of those arpeggios sound like jazz runs from a 1930's jazz piano recording xD
Think there's any similarities to Liszt and Scriabin? I feel like the runs are very similar to Liszt's style and the boomy insanity is very similar to Scriabin's etudes
MacDowell studied with Franz Liszt actually! Liszt enjoyed MacDowell's early Modern Suites and 1st Piano Concerto. Liszt even got him a publisher.
@@MacDowellProject Ah, that would explain the similarties!
Liszt, definitely. Scriabin, definitely not.
@@chrishill3341 Yeah Scriabin is a bit more dark isn't he?
Crazy fast.
Lovely set of songs, I feel these would be great for solo piano transcription or paraphrase.
tarantella goes exaggeratedly fast but is not as fast in reality
Magnifico! ❤
Wow pretty pieces!
MacDowell has really been opening my eyes to more contemporary classical composers. All I ever heard from him in the past was To a Wild Rose, and wow is he so much more than that one little gem of a piece. This man was legitimate master of his craft.
Not exactly contemporary, but still great
Pure Beauty!
What else is there to say besides, "lovely"?
This is what I call “American ravel”
Predivni komadi , programskog stila, i vrlo intrigantni u muzičkom smislu , stilski možda kao komadi Bortkieviča. Zaista inventivni muzika
Dude could sure write a tune.
imagine making an entire channel centered around an incompetent, and rightfully forgotten composer. would be nice if "the woelfl project" existed, but he's not romantic enough for modern tastes.
Wow. This is possibly the most arrogant comment I have ever seen. You may not like his music but you don't have the right nor the status to qualify him as a "incompetent composer".
@@cha_mzzn5690 I absolutely do.
@@Whatismusic123 and how so ?
@@cha_mzzn5690 because my words are fact, not opinion.
@@Whatismusic123 you're a really funny guy😂
quite different from the pieces I have by him.
They are really beautiful. Wonderful 🎹 🎶 🎹 Piano pieces to warm the fingers😄
The deeper into the work, the more intense it was/is.
