Swapping Hive Locations
I'm switching hive locations to move a weak hive over where a strong hive sits so that the weak hive gets boosted by foragers from the strong hive returning to their previously known location. The new foragers are readily accepted since they are bringing in nectar or pollen.

Honey Bottling Station for Mini Jars

I built this mini bottling station for those small skeps or bear jars. It uses a stainless steel pancake batter dispenser and an adjustable fixtures so I can use it on different sized jars.
Spraying comb with BT to prevent wax moth
Просмотров 22611 месяцев назад
My process for spraying comb with BT (Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies aizawai) Commercially known as CERTAN, B402, or Xentari to prevent wax moth infestation during storage. The trick to making this easy is to flip the boxes upside down and fan the frames like pages in a book while spraying. Then slide the box onto the frames (upside down) and pivot off the table edge to flip the box upright.
Honey Bottling Tank Fixture
Просмотров 4611 месяцев назад
I made an adjustable fixture to hold the bottles or jars at my honey bottling tank. Being blind in one eye means depth perception is a challenge and it's frustrating dribbling honey everywhere. This fixture can be adjusted for small jars, pints, quarts or half gallons... and no more honey drips. BlindBeeHoney

Here is a fixture that allows me to pop all the frames that are propollized (glued) out of a honey Super without having to pry each one separately as we are getting ready to load the extractor to harvest honey.
Getting a loaded hive ready to split

Here is a short video - In preparation for spitting, I push all the bees down into a single deep box, then add a Queen Excluder. Over the next 24 hours all the Nurse bees come back up through the excluder into the upper box to work on the brood frames staged there. When splitting I only need to dig into the top box for donor eggs/larvae/brood along with resource frames - knowing that the Origin...

Cleaning your bee smoker

Smoker Cleaning - Because I use pine needles as my fuel source, the smoker gets coated with resin/creosote which is nearly impossible to just scrape out. So this is how I clean my smoker. Using a propane torch I heat up the smoker body from the outside which ignites the creosote. Burning the creosote turns it to ash which is easily removed with a wire brush. Be careful not to burn your bellows....
Waxing New Frames

Waxing New Foundation Frames - I use a block of beeswax and my heat gun. Melting the end of the block allows me to simply wipe each frame depositing a layer of wax to help bees start building new comb.

Add some stops on the back side of the bottle and the one side, and you can probably reduce the dribbles even more. I like this idea. Good job.

Might have to consider that since I'm blind in one eye my depth perception is not so good. My low cost fix was to use a Sharpie and mark an X on the base.

From what I've learned have chicken wire in the receiver bucket give the bees something to hang on to, they'll have a greater chance of surviving. The negative pressure is minimal from what hear. Bees become stressed out and die from it or get very angry.

Hi got a question for you do we have evidence that even though the manf may not be happy about the use of the bucket head with size other than 5 gallons it will probably work with a 6 larger gallon bucket ? thoughts please thank you I mean I even thought I read some one use something like this with a 7 gallon bucket I am of course trying to use it as a shop vac for home imporvments but I like to try to understand what people have tested I think there have been many cases where the manf proudct had a use they never inteneded not what I am worried with the question is I would more concerned about effectiveness rather than if it was specifically desgined so again the manf will say its only for the 5 gall bucket but do you have any evidence that it would likely work with 6 or 7 thoughts please thank you

That mfg spec only applies to bucket lid dimension. If you have a 7 gallon bucket with standard “5 gallon” lid compatibility it will work fine. The bucket is a material container… not a suction source under normal use.

Great ... What size are the holes for the screen?

    • @BlindBeeHoney

I think 1-1/2" if I remember correctly (maybe 2").... but it's not critical because there's a lot of holes
