I can see this happening, where a guy hears things about the Necromorphs killing people believing it all to be a joke and making fun of it with his recording, only to soon find out soon after the harsh truth of what he has been hearing wasn't something to laugh at.

Doom 3 actually avoids this issue. Except for ROE all of the audio logs take place before the invasion but to the experiments in the delta labs, there's still some creepy shit mentioned in them. Like how a "plastic extrusion system" managed to turn on and fuck up a dude's arm while he was working on it, despite the fact the device wasn't even plugged in. Hell, it's even mentioned in the AL that the damn thing is *still* running even after they saved the dude. The only audio log about someone encountering demons is from some poor bastard who was apart of an expedition to hell. The UAC only found out about hell due to not fully understanding teleportation and thus not realizing where something could end up if something went wrong.
Hell yeah doom 3 ruled, I loved that game.
