Song From A Secret Garden - Harp Cover - Arr Hello Harp
Hi Everyone,
I hope everyone's January has been going well. Happy to share a song from the Eurovision group Secret Garden. I actually mistook this as another piece (the melody feels so familiar). but I fell in love with the simple melody line and variations in the left hand. I hope you all enjoy it too. The scenes are result of all the snow and cold weather we've been having, hope you're staying warm!

Happy Holidays Everyone, I always think of Edward Scissorhands as a strange movie but a Christmas Movie probably because of this piece. I hope you enjoy, this isn't perfect, there are some pauses and a wrong note or two but I hope you enjoy either way. #harpcover #harpmusic #harp #christmasmusic #timburton #timburtonmovies

Happy December Everyone! We had the first snow fall here in Toronto and it encouraged me to finally record this Christmas Favourite. It's arranged by @annecrosbygaudetmusic who has so much wonderful Christmas music. I hope you're enjoying the snow and starting to get in the holiday Spirit! I haven't decorated yet because it's been such a busy few weeks, hopefully the tree will be up soon! #chri...
Make You Feel My Love - Adele Cover - Arr Anne Crosby Gaudet

Hi Everyone! Welcome November! I hope you all enjoy this simple arrangement of Make You Feel My Love. I originally heard this song on Adele's first album 19 which is such a wonderful (but different from what she's known for) album but apparently it was written by Bob Dylan (go figure). Hope you all enjoy it, I'm off to listen to the original Bob Dylan version. #harpcover #adele #music #popmusic
Carolan's Dream - Traditional Celtic - Arr. Kim Robertson

Hi Everyone, This is one of my favourite Celtic Tunes. It's said that this tune has been attributed to OCarolan however the composer was actually William Connellan. OCarolan loved this tune so much that Connellan named it after him (It's also known as Molly MacApplen). I read somewhere that Carolan once lamented saying "I would trade all my songs to have composed this tune myself" Hope you enjo...

I hope you're a Dougie MacLean fan like I am. I thought I'd go back to a favourite piece and one of the first I learned. Something about Autumn in Scotland is so magical (that where the images came from). I hope if Summer is done for you like it is here (the leaves are already falling) that you're enjoying the fall weather. #learningtheharp #harpcover #scotland #scotishmusic

Happy September Everyone, A little late but this is a fantastic song that recently has become very popular as a wedding processional. The constant triplets of this piece can cause a lot of buzzing, I think that was the hardest thing to get right in recording. Hope you enjoy and hope all is well! #harpcover #bachmusic #classicalmusiccover #weddingmusic #weddinginspiration

With this very amateur video I hope to share some of the great features of both harps and allow folks to hear these two harps and decide which they like/prefer. Hope you enjoy, listen with Headphones for the best experience. Time Stamps: 0:00 - Introduction 5:53 - Salvi una Insights and Sound...
Neil Gow's Lament - Celtic Harp Cover - Arr. Ailie Robertson

Hi Everyone! I hope you enjoy this classic Celtic piece. The full name of the piece is Neil Gow's Lament for the Death of his Second Wife (I haven't heard a lament for his first wife!) I thought it would be a nice touch to add Sunsets and Sunrises from Ireland to the video for some added depth. Hope you enjoy! I was just thinking about you this morning and wondering when you would be posting again. So happy to get home and find this. Beautiful as always. Thank you.
Beautiful ! Thank you
Thanks so much!
That was magical, do you have the sheet music?
Really nice
Thank you so much!
This is really great, i saw them in concert once actually.
Really! That’s awesome
That’s really pretty love/hate the snow 😂
Ugh I really dislike the snow
But at least it’s pretty to walk in for an hour or so
That’s the perfect piece for the kind of weather we’re having as well. Very beautifully done thank you for sharing.
Perfect for a snowy day here in Virginia! Lovely and expressive playing...thank you!
Thanks so much Debbie! We’re prepping for a week long snow storm here in Canada
That’s really lovely
Thanks so much!
I wanted to hear this song played on the harp today. Your specific style of playing it hit the spot. It's just right and I've been playing it over and over. Very serene. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I’m really glad you enjoyed it
This is really lovely playing, great tempo. What is the harp you are playing ? New ? Happy New Year !
Thanks so much Marion. This have is the Salvi Daphne
This is beautiful Derek. Do you think the high tension in this harp would make it difficult to play celtic ornaments?
It absolutely can, I’m just personally terrible at ornamentation but that’s not the harp’s fault haha
This is really lovely Derek
Thanks so much Anne!
I love both harps but I was more drawn to the Salvi Una. If you get the chance I'd love you to try the Salvi Donegal. Im trying to decide between the Una and the Donegal and unfortunately I have no opportunity to try them. Thanks for your insights.🙌
That’s awesome! I’ve never actually seen at Salvi Donegal but I’ve heard it online, very bell like. I hear the string tension is loose
Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Calvin Fischoeder and Her Majesty, the Princess Angelica Flavia
You like to stay in and I like the night life!
You like the movies and I like T.V.
Hi Derek, what a lovely piece! I enjoy your version. I started to learn this piece yesterday with my teacher and heard your beautiful version. I checked out which other pieces you already played and I found it very funny, that you also played "The Autumn leaves", "Beauty and the beast", "In the bleak midwinter" and now "Fields of Gold" - all those pieces I have also learned in the past. I am Xenia, 40 years old, from Berlin (Germany). I started learning harp 4 years ago. I play a bohemian level harp and a pedal harp. How do you learn the harp? Do you have a teacher? Wish you a happy new year and always good harp inspirations!
Thanks so much Xenia! Yes I have a teacher and have a lesson every other week. I hope this piece is progressing well for you!
Beautiful, Derek! This is on my list to learn next year.
Thanks so much! It’s a lovely piece, I hope you enjoy learning it!
so nice Derek! Isn't it a magical piece?
100% agree, it’s a wonderful piece
very nice musicality, the most important for a musicien!
Thanks so much!
This is so lovely, merry Christmas Derek!
Thank you! Merry Christmas to you as well!
It just dawned on me, you have a pedal concert harp 🤩 this piece really is magical.
@@MarionTomsett I have both so you probably see my lever harp more!
Wow that was amazing to listen too. I absolutely loved it
Thanks so much Steph
Beautiful and beautifully played - thank you, Derek❄❄❄☃ Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much! Merry Christmas to you as well!
Oh that's so beautiful, a forgotten tune but such a lovely one. You play the harp with such a depth of feeling , thank you for sharing Happy Christmas!
Thanks so much June! Merry Christmas to you and your family
I love this piece so much! ❤ Just learned it myself... 😀
It’s so beautiful, I find I had an issue with trying not to have large pauses in please where you quickly had to switch and use your fourth finger
@@derekharpsonSame here! I still have to be very focused on it 😅
@@derekharpson What helped me was the following fingering: For example the eighth notes in bar number 10 and the following quarter notes in bar number 11. I place 3, 2, 1 (on C, D and E). I play C and D, and BEFORE playing the E with finger 1, I place 2 and 4 SIMULTANEOUSLY on D and C (the C is the first note of bar number 11). Then I play 1 and 2, and BEFORE playing finger 4, I place 3, 2, 1 simultaneously (on D, E and F). And play 4, 3, 2, 1. If this makes any sense, my mother tongue is Swedish... 😅 I struggled with the tempo until I tried the fingering above. If you have thought of something better, I'm all ears! 🙂 Merry Christmas! 🎄 ✨
Wow blast from the past, I forgot about this tune
It’s a beautiful one!
Gorgeous! Touches my heart!
Wow, thank you so much Debbie!
Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones Derek!
Merry Christmas Evan
Wow, this is fantastic. Do you have the sheet music for this?
It’s available on Ailie Robertson’s website.
Thanks so much! It’s on Ailie’s web site
Really nice, merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks so much! Merry Christmas 🎄
This is so relaxing and beautiful, great work
Thank you very much!

Beautiful arrangement and great playing! Merry Christmas 🎄 God bless 🙏
Thank you so much! Merry Christmas 🎄
this is better than ACG original performance. Yours is much more thoughtful!
Thank you so much!
Thanks Derek - This was interesting to me. I went through the gut-wrenching harp decision a year ago to add a larger lever harp to my harp family (I also have a Lyon and Healy 85 GP and LOVE it). The closest harp stores were in Salt Lake City, 400 miles away. I made a spreadsheet with all of the considerations you mentioned - height, weight, string spacing, types and tension, cases, price, special features etc. I actually had 18 harps on the spreadsheet based on what was available in each store. The harp on my vision board had been the beautiful green Una Deluxe and I'd been saving $ for that but knew that the strings were different and I really knew I needed to see how they played for me. I was 90% sure I wanted that harp since it was so beautiful and made by such a great harp maker. I thought my 2nd choice would be a Lyon and Healy Ogden as I'd played one owned by a friend. I did however want to keep my mind open to other harps offered at the other store including Dusty Strings. Day 1 was store #1 where I first tried the Una. - I kept wishing I liked the sound better and didn't like the feel or sound of the lower strings. I wondered what kind of technique I would have to develop to get the sound I desired. I tried other Salvi's and also the Ogden's and Troubadour. I was disappointed in how the levers dulled the sound on the 3 Odgens and didn't love the tall swooping point on the Troubadour. I was IN love with the beautify of that Una. I had the professional pedal harpist play the Una for me and she struggled with it too, stating that she truly rarely played lever harps. Anyway, I left wishing I liked the Una better. Da2 2 was store #2 where I tried a variety of new and consigned harps. I did enjoy the Dusty Strings harps as many of my online harp friends had stated. I didn't know how much I loved them. I was hoping for a floor harp without legs and trying to figure out what might work for me. I tried them with and without legs. I'm short so no legs may have worked on the Crescendo. After going back and forth about a few things I felt I would go home and decide whether to drive to Grand Junction , Colorado to try the newer Blevins Riversong, and perhaps to check out a used Musicmakers harp in the Denver area, before making a decision. The harpist there asked me to try one more harp I hadn't seen online. A Dusty Strings GH36S. I didn't realize as I first played it that it was a 2003 and on consignment. I also didn't know why I hadn't considered that in my spreadsheet ??? Perhaps the cost of a new one??? , or perhaps it was pretty close to 30# - almost 5 pounds more than the Una, and a bit lass portable - I'm not sure but I felt the harp almost played itself and I LOVED the sonorous deep sounds of the bass strings. Very unlike the Una. I traveled back home without a new harp and started listening to videos of people playing the Una and talking more to my friends with Dusty Strings harps. I made phone calls to Blevins and Musicmakers to learn more about their harps that were only in their own showrooms. I called store #1 telling her the next time I went back to SLC maybe I would give the Una a 2nd chance??? I also told her how much the Dusty Strings resonated with me, and how surprised that made me. She encouraged me to buy the harp I love the sound of most, knowing it wasn't her Una. I then realized that the 2003 Dusty Strings with an affordable price might disappear quickly to another buyer and that if I really wanted it, I better just buy it. I called store #2 back to discuss the purchase, even asking if the owner would look at an offer lower than the asking price considering how many miles away we lived. She said sure and within hours I purchased that harp via the phone! In a serendipity way, a friend was traveling to SLC and said he could actually pick up the harp and bring it to me - which he did a few days later - Dec. 26, 2023! I got nervous wondering if it would sound as I remembered. When he dropped it off I opened the case and was thrilled to know I had made the right choice!! I have loved every minute of my 11+ months of playing "Sally Pearl" as I named the FH36S. My 20# Blevins Encore (now discontinued) still serves me for playing in Hospice and hospital rooms, but I DO plan to visit the Blevins store 7 hours away in Colorado someday to try out a Riversong in person and see if I'd like to upgrade from the Encore. A caveat to this story is there was another lady who was trying to decide between the beautiful Una and the FH36S, and she had decided on the Una - Both stores sold their harps and both customers got something they loved!! Yes - harps have a way of finding you.
That is such a great story! I'm so glad you found the harp that was right for you. I absolutely love the FH models from what I've heard online but I've never heard one in person, unfortunately no one I know has one nearby. I bet I would love them too! It's so interesting how different people's tastes are.
Beautifully done, I can tell you enjoy your harp. Happy Christmas.
Thank you so much! Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas!🎄
A great arrangement, and I love the emotion you put into playing it💝.
Thanks so much Mary, wishing you a Merry Christmas!

Nice and relaxing Derek. Another great arrangment by ACG! 🎶🎄
Thanks so much! Anne always comes up with the best arrangements.
Thanks for replying, I will post some vids on Facebook,in a few weeks, after I have got to grips with my new ( bigger) harp, what made you choose Salvi ? For me it was the clarity,of sound, and the fantastic build quality, fit and finish is excellent 🐻❤️
Oh you definitely should! I started on a Salvi Lever harp and my teacher swears buy them. The quality is really high and I love the sound across the register. It doesn’t hurt that I have a Salvi Harp shop 10 minutes from where I live!
Very nice , is that harp a salvi Daphne 47ex ? Or se,? I have my new ex coming in the next week, in a new version of walnut, I might just get the music for this song ❤️🐻
So this is a Salvi Aurora harp! I used to play a Daphne and it was a great harp. Congratulations on getting your new harp, always such an exciting time!
I thought it was lovely too - thanks !

Lovely job Derek! I’m completely inspired to add this to my Winter repetoire
Thanks so much Shelley! It’s a lovely tune to add to the holiday list
Well, that is just gorgeous , a beautiful classic Christmas tune. You play beautifully as always, just need some silver bells in your background! No snow where I live near the sea in Devon, England, just wild stormy weather!
