Hour of the Wolf: Sally Wiener Grotta
Author, journalist, photographer, essayist and lecturer all describe what Sally Wiener Grotta does. But to truly understand who she is, one must also apply the title Storyteller to her list of accomplishments and achievements. Whether it’s a picture or an article, a workshop or a book, Sally’s primary purpose, above and beyond communicating concepts, ideas and information, is to tell a good story that will entertain, amuse and enlighten.
“A global treasure” ~ Pat Schroeder, former U.S. Congresswoman
As an award-winning journalist and photographer, Sally has traveled on assignment to all seven continents (including three trips to Antarctica) and many exotic islands (such as Papua New Guinea ...

Fascinating author interviewing. Jim this is uniquely your curating talent. I want and will get the book. I will follow her new work, and all her work I can listen, read, and see presented as a collaborated. Being a man of certain age, I appreciate a person as your are. I think, I will enjoy Susan Emshweller's book you present, today. Today, the Monday show, "Hour of the Wolf Show". Then the work I see in the other profession as a screenwriter, and other things I want to find out more. Hope to have time to enjoy an artist I just out about. I see the artist like also come ago and Susan Emshweller, is not gone yet. So her voice is rich with a promise a discerning expressive mind and life experience. So, even if you do another subsequent you loving prepared for your mother; can I have another reading please. Glad to here your writing another book. I wish you health and I missed the presentation yesterday's "Hour of the Wolf", date 05-15-23. am

wow its good to hear you again! What happened to Steeleye Span "Sails Of Silver" theme song you used to play. I used to listen to you in the late 80's and early 90's following or before the late Simon Lockle. You sound the same but older how old were you in the late 80's and early 90's I was 22 now 56. Time fly's its really creepy. I have recordings of you and simon from then.

I read that Dan Persons used to review for Video Games magazine in the 80s, indeed I fondly recall that magazine. That mag., The Space Gamer, and Dragon Magazine (TSR), were all highly important to us gamers back then.

Jim: You are directly responsible for my later obsession with Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Sandy Denny and such! For much of the later 80s I was sitting there on LI listening to your show on Saturday early mornings on WBAI and once I heard Tam Lin I was intrigued! And your show was rather good, too, LOL! I'm not a big fan of how WBAI has developed the past 10 years or under but let's not go into all that. I worked for Starlog Magazine for a while too in 1993-94 but I won't go into that, either. I wasn't that impressed. But of course it was one of my fave mags. since age 8 or so. I love Tarkovsky and I own the Criterion Collection disc of Solaris, which I've screened many times and love as much as 2001. I don't own Stalker but I'm going to rectify that very soon! Love the show. Gary Lockwood is the actor who played Frank Poole in Kubrick's 2001. He was in the second pilot for Star Trek and previously worked with Gene Roddenberry in the TV show, The Lieutenant.

I just finished listened to an interview Mr. Freund conducted with author Sarah Lampkin. It always amazes how a persons can be so talented ie, academically or artistically but be so cycloptic. The author actually stated that East New York, Brooklyn was not a good place to raise her children because of the gun violence. The level of naivete is overwhelming. I always remind folks that wherever there's people there will be crime. Crime manifest in many forms... Mall shootings School Shootings Movie Shootings Meet and Greet Shootings Jogger Shootings attempted Kidnapping of Governors Capital Insurrections

Apparently you are not familiar with East New York. My partner, Barbara Krasnoff, grew up there. It was and remains one of the most violent and dangerous neighborhoods in Brooklyn. If you had two young 'uns, as Barbara's mother had and Sarah and JT have, you'd really be thinking hard about what their time in high school, traveling about, going to movies, would be like. Of particular concern are the middle-level schools and high schools; and Sarah's kids are 9 and 11. If you had a potential career in LA and your husband worked in Hollywood one week out of four, what would you do? Indeed, there are other bad neighborhoods in greater NY and Brooklyn, but East New York is one of the most difficult. You won't find me there, and I'm a born and bred N'Yawker. I went to a "decent" High School in Queens. I was only mugged twice, with one minor knife wound to show for it; so I agree with your basic premise -- where there are many people, there's crime. (It was a good neighborhood.) But some places are better than others. It's a sad thing that what counts is the ability to buy your way to a better, safer lifestyle, but there it is. I took a different route altogether. I dropped out of high school. Safer. My parents (German Jews who were teens during the Weimar Republic) were unhappy, but understood.

BTW, the author is Langan, not "Lampkin". You don't live around here, do 'ya? I'd suggest you Google "East New York" (and filter out all the references to the one-season TV cop show by that name,) and one of the first descriptions says: "Since the late 1950s East New York has had some of the highest crime rates in Brooklyn, and is considered by some to be the borough's murder capital, alongside Brownsville." Read on, and it gets worse. Even midway through 2023. I don't mind being criticized -- I make comments a number of times that are outright wrong or need clarification. This is not one of them. East New York is notorious.
