    Hello from China. This is an interesting dialogue about national identity. I want to say Chinese are losing patience with the sinophobia in US politics and the US public consciousness. This has a long history dating back to the 19th Century nativist movements and Anti-Chinese Exclusion Laws, but in modern times with the amplification of social media, it seems to have gotten worse and now accepted as conventional wisdom of fact despite the obvious racist and xenophobic roots counter to actual principles of the US Constitution. I suppose we have to add to that the implied threat China poses to the ethos of American exceptionalism discussed here. When/how f=does this end?

    It's not only a narrow view. The overton window has moved quite a bit where Republicans use our adherence to norms as a bludgeon to attack us. They have broken key pieces of the cooperative principles where they've deviated from the maxiums. They deluge massive amounts of lies, they shift the topic, and speak in half truths. For instance, I've had conversations about January 6th being a step towards authoritarianism yet they'll try to pivot the conversation over to the BLM riots. As some how BLM is equivalent or related to a concerted effort to overturn an election Huh... There is a delusion that is happening where someone says some type of lie such as 'eating the cats and dogs' and becomes a fact through the illusionary truth effect. It is a lot easier to start a lie than it is to debunk one because it requires prerequisite knowledge of what is happening and what the claims actually are. This 'post truth' and 'fake news' world we live in comes right out of the Russian KGB playbook. Which is to induce epistemic nihilism in MAGA conservatives such that they think everyone is corrupt and everyone lies. The conservative media sphere has created the perfect enemy of the 'deep state' 'trans-people' 'war hawks' 'anti-american' 'communists. On top of that no amount of truth can pierce the veil. The democrats on the other hand are not willing to make up the same lies and cede a lot of ground into the made up monster the MAGA conservative sphere makes. This is because they believe that maintaining their reputation as fair is important. This is in part due to the nature of the democrats which adheres to liberalism. The idea of lying as a means to an end does not make sense in that framework. Because if liberals believe in freedom, liberty, ect.. then in reporting on falsehoods would be antithetical to that mission. A MAGA conservative on the other hand engages in high levels of identity politics because it's more than a political movement it's a cultural movement. They are willing to lie because their 'end' creates a national identity to which meaning can be made from. So because democrats are liberals you are allowed to project whatever identity you want onto them because they aren't in the business of identity making. To the point of conservative media ... isn't it odd that that fox news settled a massive lawsuit with dominion and tencent media was funneling money from the Kremlin to talkshow hosts like Tim Pool, Dave Rubin, and Benny Johnson ... yet if that happened on the democrats' side you'd never heard the end of it. The answer is that they are okay with that because the truth is secondary. The media apparatus today suits someone that is willing to lie because the cost to start a talkshow host is do you have a camera and an internet connection. Anyway ... that's enough

      Lots of good stuff in your comment. Where do you see a pathway forward when facing this sea of confusion that you describe?

    • @Terrranfear
      @Terrranfear 27 дней назад

      @@jasonmontoya I'm not entirely sure because there's a lot of answers to this that can push in a positive direction. On an individual level of course media literacy is important which involves questioning the publications intentions, an authors' intention, whether or not a claim has any facts behind it, whether or not the evidence meets the bar at which a claim is being made, and to have varying levels of conviction based on a certain set of facts. To speak how we should change our media landscape is as follows. Right now their is virtually no accountability in media. I think there are two methods that could be used 1) Discredit Twitter 2) Destabilize the podcast bro circuit. Discrediting Twitter is an important step. Think tanks need to ruthlessly attack twitter with regards to the algorithm. For instance why was Elon literally on everyone's news feed. What about the bot situation on twitter. It allows foreign adversaries to interface with our networks and push extreme views. Then a large movement needs to go to bluesky. Democrats need to funnel money into bluesky as an alternative. The democrats in general need to go hard on this during the 2022 election. If they win the house they can create select committees that target foreign influence over our networks and essentially investigate and do fact finding on these things. Right now the JRE can print misinformation that would make a KGB officer blush. Democrats need to push harder into podcasts like Theo Von, Tim Dillion, Stravos, Bobby. Generally non-politically first podcasts. The idea is that it would give more power to those podcasts to defy the power that the JRE softly exerts over them.

    • @jasonmontoya
      @jasonmontoya 19 дней назад

      @ got it. The discrediting, I think needs come from within to be effective. So, that realistically means a disillusionment. People have to recognize the toxicity of the relationship themselves before they’re willing to leave and to prevent themselves from simply falling back into another one. So the accountability you bring up is key. I suspect much of that will be the accountability will come from the reality people experience.

    • @jasonmontoya

      @@jasonmontoya Hello Jason, for sure. My comments are not an emotional reaction but are based on a years of study and consideration. And while ego and tribalism are always a lurking threat to objectivity, I believe I have pretty good self awareness. My assessment is that Margaret shows all the earmarks of somebody living in an ideological bubble who only consuming the state-approved narrative that is so pervasively pushed out and preserved. This is very typical of those on the left where diversity of thought and fair considerations of outside points of view are verboten. Happy to consider which things you think I may be missing... the things I think she is "missing" included the hundred of thousands of corpses in Eastern Europe, similar numbers in Gaza & Lebanon, open talk of nuclear war, insane global human trafficing, and the fall of Syria just to name a few. Separating the knee-jerk Orange-Man-Bad programming she and others have been spoon-feed, and considering the lack of wars in Trump's first term, how can any reasonable person honestly look at the needless death and destruction of the last 4 years and then clutch their pearls and bemoan about the safety of the world in the coming years under a new administration. Based on your other comments below about "MAGA folks", I appreciate you may feel a natural compulsion to reflexively defend her POV... I would just ask that you separate yourself from the emotion of being ideologically aligned and take an honest look at the mountains of corpses and ask a few questions: 1. Who is responsible for the current state of things? 2. How much death, suffering, and blood needs to be on the US's hands before we say enough is enough and demand a new path forward? While Margaret undoubtably has a find resume and long experience, this video demonstrate she is out of touch and a vestige of the past. I challenge you to revisit this video in 18-months, reread the comments, and see if you still agree. Sorry for the length, thank you for listening, and know that I don't hold animosity toward you.

    Idk why you showed up in my feed, but replace dems are bad with trump is hitler. America will not get bipartisan white house with Koala Harris, she will just have the farest left leaning "republican". Dude use your head bro. The whole system that people been claiming have been corrupt forever all went against trump. Everyone pretty much liked trump before he ran. Dems literally caught paying influencers to spread lies about him, Kolas literally taking his policies, koala just said shes pro 2a like theres not tons of videos of her wanting to take away guns, pretty much goes for everything says 1 thing to 1 group say opposite to another group. All the new tik tok videos of people saying "too political my bad, then says some made up problem and associateing with trump when its completely false. Haitians literally on youtube saying they eat cats in hati, they also said not dogs tho. The very fine people quote people love to say but 1secs later he condemns white nationalist, The project 2025 thing literally hilarious nothing to do with trump and Heritage owner said Koala could use it to but democrate have their own. Im not saying trump is perfect but to think hes anything the left or systems claims is straight up looney. I guess what asking is how much you get paid to push Koala man. If truly no paying, maybe fine a different online path, politics isnt for you, your actually doing more harm then any good.
