Just wrote a long reply to this but unfortunately it disappeared so I will try again. You missed the bombing of Rotherham Clifton Park when the Germans mistook the tents used for the miners gala as army tents. My grandad was an air raid warden and was stood outside of the family Anderson shelter and witnessed it when a lump of red hot shrapnel narrowly missed his head. We kept this as a souvenir but unfortunately it has gone missing. In the 1970’s I worked for Marks and Spencer as a warehouse man and was told by the manager of the Fargate branch that when they came in early morning the shoes would be scattered around the floor. The motion detectors would go off and he had to go in regularly to find this but forbade the staff to talk about it so as not to cause panic. I also spoke to the rentakill man who put rat traps in the cellar. He thought a man in 1940’s clothes was spying on him and said don’t you trust me but no one knew who anything about it. He refused point blank to go in the cellar again. It seems that the branch was built on top of a bombed building where several bodies were never recovered from the blitz. This is something that you could investigate.

I lived in Boston Castle from 1979 to 1983, I was employed by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Amenities & Recreation Dept. The Castle was part of the Departments tied housing stock and they rented it out to employees of the department, I was fortunate to rent the Castle between 1979 and 1983. Watching the video brings back many happy memories I had living there with my family. Great views over Sheffield into Derbyshire, it looked spectacular at nightime when all the lights were on. Thanks for the memories.😀

I love photography and enjoy photographing old churches and have visited the new church many times and must say that I get a sense of great evil there. I have taken friends there also and some have sensed it too. I also get the same feeling at the church in Blyth. One of my friends refused to get out of the car the sense of oppression was so strong.

By 1827, the first waterwheel was installed??? What were they using prior to that, arm power alone? If you don’t know what you’re on about - and you clearly don’t in this instance, don’t make ‘factual’ videos and upload them to a public platform. Share them with your friends, if available, but don’t post it on RUclips because someone might see it and believe it. The first OVERSHOT waterwheel was installed in 1827…. If you’re simply going to go to a location and read Wikipedia pages, at least read them thoroughly first and try to understand them.

You should've seen it before the Tory govt abolished the Wortley Rural District Council and forced Chap under the control of Sheffield Council in 1974. They immediately gave planning permission to build on four of the five field systems and all of the green space between Chap and High Green was covered with houses in just two years. Sheffield Council absolutely destroyed our area and it's never recovered.

Love this video x I have so many happy memories of St Marks, i spent most of my childhood there as my late Grandad Arthur Smith was a steward there for many years. I grew up in 1 of the cottages opposite the church and our family have had lots of deaths, births and marriages at the church. I also sang in the choir for a few years and also got to ring the bell somtimes. So many happy times there 🫶 Thankyou for the memories x

how many polish men fought for Germany in WW2? And how many fought against it? the former is much higher, this would contradict many of the assumptions about the role of Poland, and the attitude of germans towards poles made throughout this video. seeing the newspaper headlines was very interesting, but I have no doubt they were as full of sh*t then as they are now. There is an unhealthy lack of scepticism here. Who am I to judge? nobody at all. Love your videos on local history Josh but for me this video is just yet another rehash of the fabian toynbee narrative of the war that ignores a lot of the contributing factors. The biggest factor I would argue is the polish mistreatment of their german minority under the newly drawn borders. sadly we don't learn from our mistakes. today it is ukraine abusing its russian minority under newly drawn borders. and putin the mad dictator for daring to liberate his people. it is almost exactly the same story today. of course every leader wants more land, resources, and citizens. but it is the mistreatment of the minority that gave the pretext then, as it does now. also the communist influence in the polish government pre ww2 is oft ignored. my great grandfather was in a concentration camp as he was a polish blacksmith, but he always blamed the polish government for the war. and a certain other group I would be banned for mentioning by name.
