al-Barran fighter practice 1-26-25
The Barony of al-Barran (local Albuquerque, NM branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism) held practice January 26th, 2025. Members of the the College of Blaiddwyn (local University of New Mexico branch), the Shire of Drygestan (local Santa Fe, NM branch), and the College of St Golias (local New Mexico Tech and Socorro, NM branch) also came and participated.

For the time being they are at Snow Park on Wednesdays at about 6. They will be moving back to UNM Johnson field when the University is back from winter break.

Capture the Bull reminds me of a game someone in my kingdom came up with, Ogreball, basically like football, two teams, the "ball" is placed at the center of the field, one team has to get it to their side while the other tries to kill them all. The "ball" he created is Flossy the Sheep, an 80lbs punching-bag covered in fake fleece, with foot-long sticks of rattan for legs, a head of foam around a Gatorade bottle, and a chain harness to carry her. And one time, one of my friends was the one to grab and carry her during one round and accidently swung her at an approaching enemy, picked them up off the ground. 😂
For future bar-room brawls, maybe a giant chicken/turkey leg mace, a large fish mace, or a beers stein (maybe just a section of thick pool-noodle wrapped in armor-grade leather, like a big leather beer-mug but filled with foam and covered in tape).
Awww no punching....Thats what made it fun.
