Johnny Winter was a huge part of my youth and the same with my own playing career. Watching this is almost as difficult as losing my father. The knowledge and instinct still there, not so much the hands. Such willingness.

Just listen yesternight to Johnny and I was again surprised about his playing, so fast, but so inventive, the guitar is like a river on the solos , never stops, that’s life. Thanks Johnny Winter for your music and blues. In heaven.

Wow, what happened? I saw him twice around this time and he was playing good.

There is a certain sadness to watching Johnny struggle through what was once a wide open faucet of original style and profound Texas Blues. However, what I appreciate much more, is the heart of love and respect shown by his fellows in the profession, to honor this great player as he is today, at the doorstep of death, for having been a giant and a trailblazer for millions of young wannabe axe slingers around the world. THAT love and respect is what should, be at the front of our thoughts watching this performance imo. I have the good fortune of being a good friend of Moe Potts, Johnny's drummer for years, who now lives in CT, from where he runs an incredible commercial and visual and portrait art studio with his family. He is a devout Christian, and he remained close to Johnny up to his death, living close enough to drive over and make many visits to minister and fellowship with John, who was obviously failing to thrive. Through the many years of touring, Moe spent lotsa time with Johnny. He had no illusions that Johnny's addictions weren't killing him, nor did any one else. Every one who loved him tried to help, but it just did not break through. Johnny was quite matter-of-fact about his conditions and how he got to the trying and painful final stages by his own behaviors and bad choices. But, he and every one around him KNEW that the best medicine for Johnny was a merry heart and playing his guitars. That's what I see and take away from this heart-wrenching 3:38. Love ya Johnny! And to Derek, Warren, and Eric, along with all the players and fans there that day, THANKS for making that happen! "It's better to burn out than it is to rust" "Keep on rocking in the Free World!". ✌

I appreciate that Tedeski, Trucks, and Haynes wanted to pay homage to JW but this is a few performances past retirement!

Johnny Winter has always been my favorite,saw him fifteen to twenty times lost track but I can't finish watching this.

My band opened for Johnny in Southern CA a year before he died. He had to sit the whole concert and his playing was diminished - but nothing like this. The man is a legend.
