gothic skeleton staircase light
My wife and i decided to turn her wall breaker 3D picture into a staircase light. One just to do something unique with it. Plus, it turned it into safety lighting for the staircase. This was a haunted house i did for my boy's elementary school. I did about four there from 2016 to 2019 in the small PE room. Each year was a different setup. this was the only year i did the pirate theme, and these are the only photos i have of this one. I wish i had them all to share with you all.

    That's very cool I like the upgrade to a functioning light. I have a question, not related to the build. so I want to replicate the Disney Haunted Mansion changing portrait, I want to make the Schooner sailing ship. I know how the prop operates but it's sourcing the materials, such as the frame, artwork, effect artwork, etc. Do you have any advice for me??

    • @Paulsprops-dc4mt
      @Paulsprops-dc4mt Месяц назад

      @raymitchell9736 Thank you, Far as the project you want to do. Im not really sure. I haven't really looked it up. I'm not sure if there's any companies that make replicas of those pictures. If you're not going for full accuracy, you coild do what i did for my floating bust. Where i used that invisible black light ink. And get a picture as close to what you want it to look like and carefully hand paint that on. Then, when you have a black light shine on it, the painted areas will appear. I believe the image on the ride is done from the back right. The ship is painted on like a silkscreen and the light is from the back though areas not painted.

    • @raymitchell9736
      @raymitchell9736 Месяц назад

      @@Paulsprops-dc4mt I have attempted to use UV paint to accomplish this technique, but it doesn't work as well as I'd like. I did get better UV paint, but it takes a lot of UV. Anyway, the way Walt Disney did it was used scrim to the painting and the frame was in a light box that backlit an effect picture. The effect was covered in Van Oaks Props video where he made one, however the vinyl that he printed on looks more like the dots in a comic book than the original picture I remember from the mansion in the 70's. Now I think they went to LCD screens... modern technology, It looks like if I'm going to get the effect I want, I need to experiment. BTW, where did you find your frames? Were they cheap because frames aren't cheap.

    • @Paulsprops-dc4mt
      @Paulsprops-dc4mt Месяц назад

      @raymitchell9736 I'll have to check out the van Oaks video. Sounds interesting. Maybe i can think of something different to suggest. I get all my frames from thrift stores, Facebook marketplace, and garage sales. They are cheap that way. All other kinds of stores just want too much.

    • @Paulsprops-dc4mt
      @Paulsprops-dc4mt Месяц назад

      @costumesforalloccasions Thank you, David. I thought about using that same black light paint i used on the bust. But its so runny one wrong move and it would have been bad. So i didn't. This one im thinking of selling. Just dont know what value it at. Plus what the shipping would be due to the size and weight.

    • @costumesforalloccasions

      How much would you sell it for?

    • @Paulsprops-dc4mt
      @Paulsprops-dc4mt Месяц назад

      @costumesforalloccasions i was thinking around 350. But the problem i ran into on other ones. I dont have an account with any shipping places. So the last one i tried to ship was going to be almost 200 because of size and weight. Which make it way too much for someone to buy it unless they are local and can pick it up.

    WOW!!! That is an epic haunted house! Yes, it's too bad the end video was dark, but that's typical of haunt walkthroughs... however, I did get the sense of it and the vibe from the walkthrough... Have to say, it's very cool... and it's pretty amazing to think with all the challenges and restrictions that you were able to accomplish it. And I noticed the pipe organ prop, I recall in another video being curious about that , and you said it was made before but you didn't have it... but... there it is!!! So good to see that, the kids must have LOVED the pirate theme... I'm still a kid at heart and I know I did. P.S., I also liked your video editing in this video a lot smoother, and the sound was more balanced in the video, I know we went back and forth on ideas and the app you were using and I just wanted to say whatever you did here is a vast improvement. I think it will help your channel a lot and I hope you get more subscribers... You do incredible and excellent work, more should see it!

      Thank you, Ray, Because of the ones I did at the school is why i started making the scaled blueprints so i can perfab everything and know it would fit. What i didn't mention in the video. I wish i did, though. I only had three days to fully set up and take down. They would let me start Wednesday after school around 2:30ish to 10. Had all day Thursday and Friday. Friday night was their thing about 6. Right after that, at 9, I had to start taking it down and have the room cleaned out by Saturday morning for the cleaning people. A lot of careful planning and stress went into the four i did there. So i would start around August, and everything would be labeled far as the walls of where they went. Like a giant erector set. And did it all solo. I had family help carry in the big stuff and set up. But all the wiring, lighting, and props i did. That was the first pipe organ. I sold it after that. So, I had to make another one for this last year. Im trying different methods to make the videos better.
