Sleepy iggy goes to bed
Sleepy iguana 💤🦎
He usually prefers to get carried to bed.
On this occasion he took the long journey, all by himself. Though it looks like the lazy lizard regretted that decision half way through.
It's about 50/50 whether he goes to bed himself or gets a lift. But today he is not as gracious about getting up on his perch as he usually is 😜
He hasn't been a window potato all day.
His hormones are making him overly active and we've been keeping him company while he's been pacing around his room.
He just wore himself out, climbing up and down all day.

That little arm thrown back ... the reward. Total relaxation. 🙂
I went through similar with my big boy. It lasted 10 years with being bad as this in mating season. Luckily he mellowed down in his last few years and sadly died this year age 19. He was the most beautiful and gentle boy in the end. I’m picking up a new boy age 3 from rescue centre on Sunday. Just hope he won’t get this bad. It’s exhausting to deal with these dangerous aggressions, but if it happens: I’m able to deal with them. Kudos to you to love him anyway.
@@StellaDeleuze I'm so sorry about the loss of your old iggy 💔🦎. We also had an iggy before this guy. And we were devastated when he had to be euthanized at 24 years. It warms my heart that you are adopting another iggy, and not buying a baby from an oversaturated market of dodgy breeders/importers 💚🦎 I'm sure the odds favor a more mellow personality in the new iggy. When I get asked about iguana personalities. I usually tell them that from what I've seen, heard and researched. It's about 10% that are highly aggressive like ours. 10% that are very mellow. And the rest are in between. The best of wishes to you and the adopted iggy 😊
@@anjatrorup1612 Thank you. Oh my god, euthanised at 24?? That must have felt so so devastating. I'm so sorry you had to go through this. I had a girl before my last guy and she was an absolute dream. I was young and didn't know better, walked into a pet shop to enquire about budgies as I grew up with them, but fell in love with an iguana, despite not knowing what it was, let alone the care Everyone tried to put me off, but I was in love. Never looked back. I adopted him when he was 3 ish and he was tame, then turned. But the terror I went through was worth it: I'm now equipped and I had the best and calmedst laid back beautiful boy for a few years. That trust was well earned. The new guy will arrive this weekend and I just hope he won't turn this bad. lol I'd love to have a good bond with him straight away. It's just easier for both sides and I do like keeping my digits and skin intact. haha
He is an enraged iguana due to hormons as it seems to be in the mating season, and during this time they do not tolerate anyone else other than a lady iguana, and there u are constantly aggrevating him even more.
Male iguanas can be aggressive during mating season but even more aggressive to female owners when the female owner is in the middle of her monthly cycle. A friend of mine couldn't go near her male iguana at all during her period.
@@robertgibbons5481 it's opposite with this guy. He is a bit more laid back during that time

Sleep well, my scaly friend
I’m always amazed by lizards sleeping habits. And how soundly they sleep! My wild agamas always go up to bed at least an hour before sunset and don’t come out until around 10 am. If it’s a rainy day, they don’t come out at all.
Sleepy boi!

I am curious, what are the signs they are going through mating season that you look for?
@@remingtonpolk3725 Orange tint all over the body and especially on the spikes. Reduced appetite. Increased activity and restlessness. Digging at the enclosure entrance. Increased aggression and territorial behavior. They have femoral pores under the thighs. In the breeding season, they will start to wax a bit. He will kind of drag the thighs over surfaces to scent mark. We keep rough surfaces for him to rub on, so his pores doesn't clogg up. The iguana gets a kind of musky waxy smell. If he gets wet from watermist, it's stronger smelling. He has plushie iguanas in his room. And he will mate with them during breeding season, as a substitute for a real female.
Oh no! Not the boots! Those are nice boots. I had a dog do that to several pairs!😳
This is actually our old iguana. He passed when he was 24 years old. That happened about 4 years ago. Still miss him
What is that high-pitched noise you hear while laying down?
Old video, needs sound editing. Video is sped up. Someone is sanding their balcony in the background
I also like your music choices.
@@cherylj7460 Well, Thank you 😁👍 Though in this video, I think the background tone is a bit intrusive
Ya time to go.
Is the gear precautionary at this point or is it breeding season for him now?
@@depressedcanadian-he3kt He has been winding up his aggression since the end of August. This day he was calm and I'm only wearing the hoodie and helmet as a precaution. Though the helmet is weirdly enough, not something I can take off. If I do, he will come straight for my face. This was an opportunity to do some casual work around him, without the helmet on. He wasn't too happy about it, but stayed calm. When the aggression heats up, I'll put the heavy duty gear on 🙂
@@anjatrorup1612 Thank you for responding. I know how high maintenance these wonderful creatures are but your patience for him is admirable and you've given him an amazingly loving home whether he appreciates it or not😄 He's really beautiful and I hope his moods subside eventually.

Happy dragon 😀👍
Sunny window, heated blanket and a slave making sure the view is clear. Perfect
I noticed that he has a soft, pillowy bed, rather than a rock. They really prefer the soft stuff?
@@cherylj7460 He loves his dog bed because he can rest in so many positions. But he also enjoys his heated cocofiber mat. In the evening, he will climb into his enclosure. Where a platform with a slight upward and concave angle, is wrapped in hessian strap. And that's where he is more territorial than any other place. But he will also "pancake" on the floor a couple of times a day. He doesn't like things that only support part of his body. Or things that moves, shift position or sway when he steps on them
@@anjatrorup1612 This is fascinating! Is his favorite platform heated? Do they prefer to sleep on a heated surface?
@@cherylj7460 For the past 6 months, he has favored his ledge with heated cocofiber mat during the daytime. But I think he prefers his enclosure at night, because temperature and humidity is very stable, no matter what the room temperature is. Enclosure is heated with a CHE at night. If he could only pick one heat source, I think he would pick the heatmat. Though they are rarely recommended in the hobby because of the risk of overheating and moisture getting into the electronics. His heatmats doesn't exceed 31 Celsius and are produced to withstand moisture
@@anjatrorup1612 Hmm. Off topic, I’m in Florida, and have a colony of red headed agamas - I usually say they’re in my backyard, but lately, they come into the screened patio to sleep! They mostly cuddle up in the aluminum beams. But there’s a few who like the soft cushions! So, with all the furniture put up prior to the hurricanes, I fixed a soft spot - and just checked. The same two are sleeping in the flannel sheet I folded for them! They’re both babies.

Oh, this handsome man also knows how to entertain himself
That was a pretty gentle exploration he did there. Do you think it was related to how real it looked? or is that how he checks everything out?
@@CypressWalker It was very gentle wasn't it 😊 It's actually how he explores everything. But I have not seen him be so focused on detail. It's usually the item as a whole and not parts of the item he investigates
Try taking him to a vet mine was just as angry turned out he had an issue. After he was given medication from the vet he calmed down dramatically they told me that it caused the aggression.
@@randalltapia9638 I'm glad that your iggy got better 😊 I know that reptiles are masters of disguising pain and they can get defensive if they have discomfort. But this behavior is seasonal and comes with several clues. One of them being an increase of activity, which he would not have if he was sick. Since this video was posted, he had a period of non aggression over the summer. But he is starting to notice the days are getting shorter. So his territorial behavior is increased. And I'm starting to see the precursors of mating behavior. He has been to the vet 3 times while he has been in our care. He was sick when we got him and since then he managed to rip out two claws and eat tissue paper. (Claws are back, paper is out) 🦎💚
Godzirra!!
Do female iguanas act like this during breeding season too?
@@allenmelton3367 Females are usually less aggressive than males. And female aggression can occur when they start to develop eggs (wich they will do even if they are not fertilized)

So handsome in that opening shot. So much calmer than the other vids, much more accepting of your touch. Crawling on you, tasting you over and over. I think you may have hit a mile marker here. Is he coming out of breeding season? Or is he a handful year round?
Thank you for the nice comment 😁👍 He gradually came out of breeding season around April. It started in December. Though for the last two years, it seemed that he was never really completely out of it, all year round. He is almost as calm now, as he was before his first season in dec. 2021. I'm gonna expect him to get aggressive again, come December. But he is already almost at maximum size for an adult male (8+ kilograms). So I'm hoping that we are all set up for another season. No more emergency security measures. And I keep my fingers crossed that his worst behavior is behind us. 😊
Beautiful, It's nice to see this longer footage of this guy when he's chilled out like this. You get to see the real relationship underneath all that instinctual aggression from your other videos. Such a graceful giant here.
