Loading the Proprioceptive System Hands
Bringing awareness to the muscles of the hands improves feedback to the brain for effective motor planning and muscle grading, especially with resistive activities. Using resistive activities strengthens the hands and increases internal awareness of how the hands are moving for improved dexterity.

Meaning & Purpose to Help Children Become Their Best Selves

Everyone has fears. Children are the same. As parents, we have a strong desire to protect our children, keep them feeling safe, and also avoid the things that we know trigger fear. But as a parent, it is also important to guide them through their fear in small increments, show them how to take things slowly without becoming overwhelmed, and to never give up. As we show our children that it's no...
Worry Brain vs Bravery Brain

When I am working with kids during a therapy session, I always teach them that they have a worry brain vs a bravery brain. Their worry brain holds them back and their bravery brain pushes them towards success. When they tell themselves they can do - they always do! But I don't teach them this until I know that they have built some motor and play skills that allow them to be able to do something...

Respecting the Worry Brain
Просмотров 86 месяцев назад
In the process of building bravery and resilience, it's also importance to respect a child's fears as they move out of their comfort zone. Anxiety does not respond well to compliance demands. Children who are anxious often get overwhelmed and cannot push through. So respecting the "Worry Brain" as you are growing the "Bravery Brain" is critical for success.
How to Grow Your Bravery Brain
Просмотров 196 месяцев назад
Worry and fear are a natural part of human existence. Some of us are more prone to it than others and some of us can easy push past it and go full speed into an activity. But for children who can't, it's important to foster development of a child's "Bravery Brain" - This is the part of their mind that says "I can do it!" "It is possible". Having this skill helps children move from a place of fe...

Christmas Tree Craft to Build Fine Motor and Cutting Skills
"Hello, I’m Gemar Sales Tumapang. I would like to ask for your permission if I could use this video. I plan to include it in the application we are developing, Neurolearn: A Mobile Learning Application for Parents' Awareness in Specific Learning Disorders, to help those who will use our app. Thank you and God bless."
I wonder if I should be working on all at the same time or in order?
@@BeautifulEarthJa can you clarify? For the video - ideally you should follow the progression from gross motor activities to flat surfaces to table because that is how the nervous system organizes Information to the body (proximal - core/shoulders to distal -forearms, hands, fingers)
Madam wait for your reply
Good evening madam i have a 3years 2 months old baby now she is going to school she is active except in writing and she can't sit in consistently in one place she is not interested to write home works Some times i am scolding and beating also But no improvement But orals she can telling easily Please tell me what is the problem and what is the solution
Many children at that age do not sit to work on letter formation. At that age, it is best if she is working on an easel and you are making sure that she is consistently forming lines, simple shapes, diagonals, etc. She will not be ready to form letters until she can combine shapes into simple designs. You can do some tabletop crafts that work on building use of two hands and hand strength, coloring as well as
Thank you! Strategies teachers of young children should be aware of. I look forward to seeing more.
Fantastic and low cost strategies, thank you!
We've started these exercises bc we can't get in anywhere, so thank you! How often should they be done?
Ideally, 3-4 times per week. I like to recommend that parents do them as a warm-up before doing homework or even in between completing work for two different subjects if homework time is challenging.
Truly sensational and the lovely vocal pace is much appreciated. 🤗 Where are y'all located?
Thanks so much! We are located in Stamford, CT. Let us know if there is something specific you would like to learn more about so we can add it to our creator list. :-)

Not only for kids😊 to try out. I find that because I need to concentrate fully on the production that my mind doesn't have the space for constructing sentences, word choice, argument construction, etc. Thx for content
That is definitely true. The more efficiently your fingers work together and can form letters, the easier it is to focus on content.
Great tips
Hi. I hope you're doing okay? I just found your videos today and I watched a lot of them this morning. There's a lot of good information in them (I work with young moderately autistic adults 18-24yrs). I'm going to apply some of your advice and techniques straight away. Many thanks for insights.
Thank you. I hope some of the techniques work for you and I would be interested in hearing how it goes. All the best.
I'm a adult with dyspraxia is there any advice for me. I think this with kids would work for me to.
Definitely this can work for anyone. Just depends on where you are struggling. If you have specific things that you would like videos of strategies for let me know!
Great job
Thanks for this helpful video…
Most helpful video I've found so far! Thank you!
Love this message!! This is the unique skill set that OT brings to the motor exercises and activities. Thank you for highlighting this.

I really love your method mam
Very helpful video ma'am. Thanks alot for sharing 🤗
Love this so much! Thank you for detailed description
Thanks so much. Let us know if you have other video requests!
Learning this word is kinda breaking my heart. Though I didn’t know it until maybe a week ago, I have suffered from dysgraphia for my entire life. (I am 30years old) growing up I had terrible hand writing, my teacher constantly complained to me that they could not read my had writing. (Hell I couldn’t read it) I was able to remedy this to a point through years of deliberate practice. Now my handwriting is legible if I don’t write too fast but it is far from “elegant”. The other symptoms of my dysgraphia I have been much less successful in remedying, such as my propensity to misspell words, and misuse punctuation, my difficulty in understanding when to end sentences and structure paragraphs, my reduced capacity to notice mistakes in my writing, the vast gap between my verbal acuity and my ability to express myself in writing, my strong emotional aversion to communicating through writing, and a number of other difficulties presented by my disability.
It's hard to struggle with something no one put a name to when you were young. Dysgraphia has many subtypes. It sounds like you were able to work on the motor part but still struggle with elements of dyslexic dysgraphia, which would account for the spelling, difficulty recognizing errors, etc. Reading specialists who have a background in working with people with dyslexia symptoms can help with this if it's something you want to address. Sometimes even if you are a good reader, you can struggle with pulling spelling and sentence organization from memory during the writing process. Hope this is helpful!
Try writing from other hand
I know I would be useless with the right - I am a lefty! Although I was always jealous that right handed people could see what they wrote more easily!
@Sensational Achievements just to confirm, if the student or child is right-handed, they would use their right hand for these exercises, correct?
Hi Aubrey, thanks for these interesting videos and tips. I am an Occupational Therapist working in the school system in Canada. I am interested to know if you would recommend a specific workshop or course for OTs to build a better understanding of VMI and the visual system. Thanks!
Hi Megan! Actually there will be a course coming up through Theramoves that I am running if you are able to attend theramoves.com/course/helping-horrible-handwriting-interventions-to-improve-graphomotor-skills-when-formal-programs-fall-short/
@@SensationalachievementsOT I plan to, thanks!
Very helpful video
Lady you babble to much I can’t finish this on to the next one.
Very helpful video ma'am :) great efforts.
this is great- thank you!
Thanks Aubrey. This is great 👍🏼
Very helpful information ma'am😊😊
It’s not even so much the screens! What I see is recess and leisurely lunch time with time and space for peer socialization shrinking more and more. I question my own decision to keep trying to make elementary school work versus homeschooling where I can ensure my son gets the physical activity and free social interaction that he needs in the school age childhood years!
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you!
Took along time for someone to explain dysgraphia in anyway that makes sense. I've diagnosed with dysgraphia but I've no issue with fine motor skills. In fact I'm a really good at drawing.
Absolutely - dysgraphia is much more complex and often doesn't get properly diagnosed, and therefore, properly supported or allow people to self-advocate better for their needs
Would love to know what the music is
It was composed especially for Body Activated Learning. I thinking of making a video with just the music and cuing to change to the next category available for use. Would that be helpful?
Wow Amazing ma'am ☺️☺️👍👍
Thank you very much for your valuable information 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you
I Love the Video
i Suffer with Adult-Dysgraphia in most areas of my writing. Does anyone know if there are ways to treat these symptoms at home?
Yes there are depending on the type of dysgraphia you have. I put up a few simple videos of small exercise sequences but there are many combinations if you can identify if you have motor, spatial, or dyslexic dysgraphia.
Sensational Achievements Thank you very much. I will view and Practice the methods and suggestions and again thank you so much
Sensational Achievements oh yes also addressing the Differences in symptoms: I believe I have Spatial, along with the others you’ve mentioned in the text
Another thing is I’m 6’4 and I’m a pretty big guy. Do you think it could be a part of the problem; especially with arm positioning?
Elder Phillip J Nelson I will add another video about vision, space, and writing activities for you from my Facebook live webinars. And yes positioning will be very important for your arm if you get arm pain or have trouble coordinating your finger movement. I haven’t seen a correlation of height to dysgraphia but certainly could exacerbate symptoms if you don’t set your desk up for support
Very nice video. Good efforts ma'am :)
That’s my son😔
Does he fit a specific type?
Tnk u mam
