how can i play these levels?

I remember discovering this game and trying to understand what was that sound. Before each boss and rusalki room we could find giant hearts and others stranges organs in the middle of rooms. I thought that this sound was a mix of breathing and blood flowing into the big veins to go into the bosses/rusalkis. They are biomechanical creatures after all
