Just pulled the trigger on a new “56 mile ODM” 2023 Pan America Special. It came with all the upgrades I would have done, guard wise, and a $750 Wunderlich rider and passenger seat with nut space, plus a brand new set of M Anakee tires on the side, and the Screaming Eagle carbon fiber exhaust. I added up the upgrades at $3975 not counting labor at HD. All work was done before delivery. If I told you all what I paid, you’ll all freak and say it wasn’t true. It’s true. Let’s say I could flip this bike come April and easily make $9k, and with the 2025 1250 engines being made overseas, that alone could make my PA go up in value. But, now it is tucked in and covered next to my 19’ M8 road glide standard. I’m having thoughts of selling the heavy and slow RG. Love the bike but I’m not getting any younger and 1,000 lbs with full bags and gear sucks. Plus technology wise it’s a “dumb” motorcycle. The PA is insanely more advanced at anything HD has ever made before. I’m now looking at the hard cases and matching soft panniers from Viking as the mounts are interchangeable. Just ordered the AEEDEA highway pegs. Great video. I’m excited for the snow to melt. Now I need to find a deal on a good used set of wheels to mount the knobby’s onto.
@WorldsGoneInsane so awesome to hear people who have found out how fun and bad ass this bike is. Sounds like a killed deal too! I want to upgrade to the wire wheels. But I cast wheelset has held up fine for me off road. (I do have wheel and tire coverage....just in case)
Got one of the first '21s. Now I have a '24. My favorite bike. Really hope HD can put some love into the platform so we see better sales, but no matter what, I'm riding mine with a smile every time.
New subscriber here. I used to live in Rocklin off Sierra college. Excellent video. Ride safe
I have a 22 Pan Am. I am in the process of upgrading my battery from the stock set up to a larger battery that shipped with the 24 models. The start up codes were largely due to all the electronics that needed to fire at the same time when the bike started up. Apparently the original small battery was simply too weak. Other than that the bike is amazing. I was one of the dudes berating all the electronics and ride modes, etc. but I admit I was wrong. Sure, there are more things to go wrong, but it's like having 4 bikes in one. Semi active suspension is amazing and changes the riding characteristics significantly depending on the mode you're in. And you can add custom modes and dial it in to perfection. Other than the exhaust, the seat there is nothing you need to really change. Cosmetics and an extra creature comfort if you want, but the bike is brilliant stock, which is hard to say about Harleys.
Its on my short list.
Thanks buddy, now i want one even more😂. Currently have a few sporters and vrod. This will likely be my next bike. Drooling over the new st
Have you taken this bike into skill courses? I'm considering one for a cone bike (We teach advanced, police style techniques and I plan to get heavier into rodeos this year) but haven't seen a ton of info on them from that perspective. It seems like they should do well in that arena.
Not yet. I would really like to. The bike can feel top-heavy, but it's very manageable. It would be really cool to see the bike in one of those rodeos. Do you think the Pan Am ST would be better?
@ I’m not sure honestly. The height could be a benefit or a detriment, depending on how the rider handles it. I started my motorcycle journey on sport bikes years ago and tend to be “active” during cone work. I’d think the Pan Am (or the BMW GS line) would perform well, just not sure HOW well in comparison to the BMW RTP
Awesome!👍🏻
How do feel about someone who has little off road experience, 5’4 with 30 inch inseam, on getting the solo reach seat for his 2023 bananamerica special, and take it off roading/BDR, asking for me haha
@Diabeekei It is a good bike to start learning dirt. Ride modes help, and the weight helps you feel more planted... It is a heavy bike, though. I went out and bought a used 2018 yamaha wr250r. (Small duel sport) That bike really helped me with riding on the dirt better and understanding how bikes feel with less traction without the weight of the pan am. ...so I bought a bike for my bike.
Purchasing a bike like the Pan America for on/off road use that really should NEVER see even gravel roads is a waste of time & money. A Harley Davidson badge makes the proposition even MORE scary and the reason why these bikes just sit on the showroom floor gathering dust!
I’m thinking of trading my RK for a PAS, the thing holding me back is the chain drive. How much attention do you pay the chain and how difficult is regular maintenance? Thanks.
@jtWrenn-qd2re I stay on top of my chain. Prolongs the life of my sprockets (I'm still on the stock ones). They recommend clean and lube every 600 miles. ( I do it more often) Not that big of a deal and easy to clean and lube. Specially if you have the center stand. Chain lasted me about 20,000 miles. I'm still on my second chain.
@1:40...LOL....I've never heard of Yamaha problems!
1978 on my way back from Florida to Pa. Right at South of The Border my almost new XS 650 Twin burned a piston. Shit can happen. The Yamaha dealer in Laurenburg, NC came out picked up my bike dropped me a local motel and had me on the road 2pm the next day. Reinforced my faith in the brand. Many years and Yamahas later there is a V 1100 Classic in my garage. Next to my 03 KLR 650, 07 Sportster 1200 and my 2024 Pan America. I love them all.
My homies MT-10 motor grenaded on a ride...
i called my local dealer asking if they where getting any of the '25 pan ams in. They told me no they wont and the person told me they arent really interested in those bikes. I bought mine there, so that was surprising. I've had a few not great interactions with the service dept, mainly due to the ignorance and not caring about the PA. Fortunately for me there is a (supposed) better dealer just as close to me. I say that because they put the PA's up front, i've heard a member of the service dept owns a PA and they did an event showing how to customize the PA once. So to your point, thats a sign of a good dealer for a PA. This year we'll really know as HD dealers are given the option to even stock PA's on their showroom floors. If it aint' for sale, then prob not the dealer for you long term.
Unfortunately this is not the first time iv heard this. Glad to hear you may have found a dealer that shows some enthusiasm for the bike. I really believe that it only takes one test ride on the bike to get people interested and or hooked. thanks for the view, and the input, dude.
Absolutely critical to have a dealer that is in with the Rev Max bikes and technology. Thankfully mine is. The mechanic who handles them owns a Pan America and embraces the mechanical and electronic technology. He is a 25 year veteran at my dealership. I have had zero issues save for a noisy fuel pump which was replaced under warranty. The dealerships that wont accept the new tech are in for a rude awakening in 2025. The touring models have very similar electronics to the Rev Max bikes. Like it or not they better get with the program. My advice to anyone buying a Rev Max bike make sure that the dealership is all in and has veteran mechanics servicing them. Not recent hired inexperienced mechanics. They are complex mechanically and electronically and not for a novice to be working on.
@@paulwojnar2291 where might that dealer be?
@tvd1188 Electric City Harley Davidson, Scranton, Pa
29K MILES ON MINE no problems. MY 2018 BMW 10 times to the dealer. It happens.
awesome to hear! coolest thing you can put on a bike are miles. wish it were not the case, but ya, can happen to any bike. thanks for watching and for your input, dude.
Thank you!👍🏻
On my second PAS a 2024 in Alpine Green. Traded my 22 because I was at 21,000 miles and 2 year threshhold on trade in value which isnt much to write home about. Only issue with the 22 was a noisy fuel pump replaced under warranty at 19,000 miles. 6k on the 2024 no issues at all. I really love this bike. It is one the most comfortable fun bikes Ive ever ridden. Great sport tourer as well. I dont do dirt on it. I have a KLR 650 for that. The upgraded battery and harness made a world of difference in start up. Great to see you with 45k on yours with very few issues. I intend on putting 100k on this one. Much touring planned for the next couple of years. I am a new subscriber to your channel . I am always looking to see Pan Am owners experiences on this great motorcycle. Cheers and many more miles offun to you on your Pan Am. I will be watching.
Just my input. 2022 Pan Special. At 28k miles I had stalling issues. Took it in at 15 days past the two year had warranty. Ended up with a bad battery, stater, cat, clutch and right hand control. Stater and hand control were covered under extended warranty. The rest was not. $1800 and 45 days later I got my bike back. Seriously! This is my third and last Harley. Each one needed at least a clutch and stater @30k. Friends who are riding other brands are not dealing with this even at 40k.
About the Key Fob, I purchased a 2nd Flob for 60 dollars and it cost me an extra 50 dollars to flash it or.....You can wait until scheduled maintenance and have them do it then..
@@georgerobinson9275 good to know. Thanks, man!
True that she look ugly on paper but as soon I saw the reel one I fall in love . I take it in the rock mountain in UAE
Good post . I like your record recommendation. I love my 22 PA and not ready to change it
Most jerky bike ever.
Thaks for the updates.
This bike seems to give you escapism by means of nature. Less crazy cars trying to drive you off the road when on a fire road. Taking rides like this would make anyones day. 😁
I love that you saved that clip of putting it down. Bet that has been saved forever and used for this video haha Keep crank these videos out! Looking forward to your adventure rides!
Mainly how Reliable has it been??? Any leaks anything broken anything else that has gone wrong donu trust it at 40k etc.
@@gigi9467 It's been reliable to me. Couple fork seal leaks. And noisy fuel pumps replaced, all under warranty. But never left me stranded.
@ any leaks? I know my old 2008 street glide at 43,000 miles. There was a little bit of oil seepage between the primary and the transmission but never really a leak.
@@gigi9467 I noticed on a long road trip to utah, there was a drip or two of oil from, what seemed to be coming from the shift rod seal. when i stopped for fuel. only a small drip or two. but this was after a solid stretch of riding in nevada heat non stop. never was an issue. oil level was good throughout the trip. this also was when the bike was only a few months old at the time.
@ gotcha so what mileage did the bike have?
@@gigi9467 around 6 or 7,000. if i remember correct.
I had a '22 PA Special that ended up getting lemon lawed.. it couldn't stay out of the shop. When it ran it was one of the most fun bikes I've owned but just had issue after issue, left me stranded 3x in 2 months.
that sucks to hear, man. I really hope the dealer was able to make it right with you.
Great vid! Just ordered the V&H exhaust for mine, it's a '23 I bought leftover end of Jan '24. Love it, looking forward to the weather breaking so I can get back out riding it! You hit all the high notes, my dealer advised me upon buying it that if you're not going to be riding it for ~2 weeks to get it on a tender, a quirk of this particular bike. Stay safe!
Good on the dealer for giving you a heads up on keeping it on the charger. I believe after they revamped the 24 charging system, I don't think its as much of an issue anymore. I think you'll be super stoked on the V&H exhaust sound.
I wanna get that 2025 ST!
I like it. I'm Working on a video on it.
Cool hack for you and the fob battery, an Apple Airtag keychain case holds fob batteries perfectly, either the 2032's in most fobs or the smaller PA battery. Then you always have a spare.
Live in the Bay Area, but love the landscape of the Sierra Foothills.
Some sage advice Trev. Hope your experience encourages more people to take the plunge on the Pan America.
Nice video! One comment on your battery talk. I hated that it had that shitty CR1632. I had one die on me within a week and they are not readily available over here in Spain. I cut off the small bracket that holds the CR1632 battery and put in the larger CR2032 battery and now my FOB works way better.
I like the mod to the key fob idea. super smart
Great advice here. I'm a '22 owner (i got it in '23) and i'm at 10k now. I change my fob battery yearly as just a every year thing and keep a few taped under the seat just in case. I put on the SE exhaust, HD sport bags, A1 pull back risers, Denali handguard/lic plate lights and highway pegs. The exhaust might have been the best upgrade, but i had my stock seat re-molded by Mean City cycles. Totally changed the ride for me. Owner is a Pan Am dude too. My next upgrades are new street tires (my tires are near smoked) and hopefully some bright headlights. So far havent had the fuel pump thing and only had codes thrown once but they cleared. The bike is on a tender 24/7 and thats probably my biggest bit of advice to bikes pre '24. Keep that sucker on a tender all the time. Thanks for the review and ride safe.
Agreed. never a bad idea to keep that battery topped off.
You can also get a battery jumper hooked to battery. You should for any bike. i just had installed on my 22 pan enthusiast edition i got the beginning of 24 new.Ive went well beyond with upgrades and well be keeping this bike.
@greenrush4313 I have been wanting to do that to mine. Great idea.
Have you taken it off roading? And how does it deal with rain/water if so? Battery location makes me uncomfortable and anxious
@Diabeekei i take it off road fairly often. Tires are key to the wet riding. I went with the anekee wilds. They handle the wet really well. I know some people were concerned with the location of the battery, but it's never been a problem for me.
@ gotcha! I’m currently breaking in my 23 bananamerica special, weather not been kind but she’ll get done for sure. Thanks for the tips!
@Diabeekei do you have the yellow one? Lol.
@@ADVTrev yeah! Frickin love that vomit yellow color haha!
Habe you taken it off roading? And how does it deal with rain/water if so? Battery location makes me uncomfortable
Love your videos. Your story is very much like my own. Always dreamed of having a motorcycle and in fact I did ride motorcycles when I was a teenager. I was into BMX and motocross bikes. My prized possessions at the time were my PK Ripper and my 1979 Suzuki RM 125. Of course… When I was about 19 or 20, the adult world creeps in. . . work, school, more work, marriage, child, more work. . And then life happens… As you mentioned… People you admire, close friends pass away unexpectedly never having had the chance to fully live out their dreams which often times they’ll express to you… Well, I had such an event happen in my life fairly recently and that was enough for me to make the move and purchase a used 2022 HD Pan America Special… it’s been a little bit of a learning curve to get back on a bike, especially one as big and powerful as this one… But I love the fact that you can “dumb it down“ and it’s loaded with technology that gives me extra confidence to incrementally reacquaint myself with the world of motorcycling. Like yourself, I am smitten 🥰
Thanks man. I love to hear stories like this. I agree its a great bike to re-learn on. the rider modes seem to get a bad rep, but I think that's an ego thing. I love that about the bike.
I had much the same experience. I rode on the back as a passenger with my uncles as a kid, but my parents and first wife were against motorcycles. 27 years into the marriage, at the age of 47, I was done with being told what to do and bought the bike on Black Friday in 2014 - a 2009 Suzuki Boulevard 805cc. Like you, I feared age would interfere with ever having the experience. Shortly thereafter, I went through a divorce - not because of the bike. I rode my Zuke to work. It was my only vehicle for over a year. I rode it on the weekends in the mountains of western NC. It helped me put my life together and kept me from harming myself. I remarried. I've owned 6 Harley's since. My current ride is a 24 Pan America Special (they don't sell new standards in the States anymore). I love it, and I'm learning to ride on dirt. But it is so fast. I already got a ticket on it. Ride on! Brother!
Awesome to hear, man. I'm glad your back on two wheels.
If your Pan America were stolen, would you get another one or something else?
@@MrMoneyHelper I'd for sure get another Pan America.
I buy a gun and search my bike instead.
I'm not a Harley fan, but actions speak louder than words! Good bikes get ridden. Bad bikes don't.
I havent ever stared riding before but thats cool. ;) fix your title. Lol
Ha! My bad. Thx, dude.
I saw a lot of reviews about this bike and no1 mentioned the PIN start, not even the actual dealer that sold it to me. Thank you sir
Thank you, man. Yah, It seems that a lot of dealers just forget to mention the pin.
Do you ever have a passenger? And if so how does the bike handle it? Would it still be good for longer rides with a passenger as well?
@derricklindstrom4351 i have taken a few trips with a passenger. Bike handled the passenger no problem. She has told me that on longer trips, the bike could use a more comfortable pillion seat, though.
@ Great to know thank you very much!
What do you think your next bike will be?
@veryevilmoose . I've been playing around with the idea of a T7 or a desert X. Honestly, another Pan America. I would like a PA special next. I'm gonna ride this one for a while, though.
I bought a 24 PA and put 9000 trouble free miles on it. About 1/3 dirt roads like you mention. I would get off road pretty often and dropped is about half a dozen times. My local dealer offered me a trade I couldn't refuse so I traded it for a 24 CVO RG ST. I recommend the Pan America when asked, I don't fall over as much on the RG.
I'm glad HD knew these bike were gonna be dropped, so they designed them to do so and not hurt the bike. That CVO RG ST is a sick looking bike.
Hi '22 Pan Am S owner here. FOB battery on the Pan Ams are smaller than most other H-D bikes. It is CR1632. It seems like the Key FOB battery drains quicker than most other H-D models with larger FOBs using the bigger CR2032. Also, keeping the FOB far away from the bike helps prevent the security system from draining the battery of both the bike and the FOB. I always keep the bike battery tendered when not riding.
Just bought a used 21’ yesterday with 1400 miles on it. Unfortunately I didn’t see this video until today so now I I need to figure out my next move on resetting the PIN code for the bike. Any tips? Is that a dealership thing or something I can do? Great content and info man!
@motosickle2491 the dealership you bought it from, should be able to help you out.
If you have the owners manual and active fob there is a section in the manual that tells you step by step how to change the pin number
@@paulwojnar2291my bike didn’t come with one, haven’t got around to ordering yet

Its a BAD ASS BIKE. The BEST Harley (out of 20 mostly cvos) i have ever had PERIOD!!!!
Hell yeah man the Pan America is best new Sportster 😂
Very sagely advice! I traded in my 2020 road glide special for a pan am special in nov 2023 and am lovin’ every minute of it. I’ve had most of the issues that you mentioned and I have had to buy a trickle charger as the battery voltage drops enough to show up faults. These faults nearly all are because of low voltage, and charging for about an hour before leaving works. Apparently the battery isn’t man enough to hold enough voltage for 4-7 days without dropping, even though it is brand new. If you’re a daily rider it’s not a problem. I too purchased a smaller screen like yours which works really well, I also purchased a Klock Werks flare screen for the summer as I prefer to wear an open face helmet. I also purchased a saddlemen saddle to try and make the rear seat more comfortable for my wife, I also found it a little more comfortable than the stock seat (but I do have short legs/long body). Good advice well presented, keep up the good work.
thanks, man! love to hear that your enjoying your Pan Am. I did hear they changed the charging system for the 24 model and we are able to purchase this "kit" to reto fit it to the earlier year bikes.
