I am in tears as I listen to this video. One of my experiences was a man who taught, but did not have a classroom. He taught in a tent with a backpack. Six years ago, as he was dying, a young man called me. He was sorry to hear of this, but he said he would not be half the man he became without having Mr. Rich in his life. Mr. Rich was his scoutmaster and my husband. And the world was richer for knowing him. I've only seen clips of this film, so now I need to find the movie to watch all of it. Thank you for posting your tribute to this wonderful teacher.

You spoke at our opening day of school today and I believe you said the words that many teachers have forgotten. It is so easy to fall into the stress of teaching, the stress of paperwork, the stress of meetings and forget that each child has a story that they bring with them. I am so fortunate that being a teaching assistant, I have a lot less stress and have always kept focused on the most important thing, children! God bless you.

Always picked last. Parents clearly felt spending time with me was a chore. My best friend in high school was only allowed twelve invites to his party, so I didn't make the cut. In Phy.Ed., I'd get picked for teams only after the wheel chair kids and the girls who stood at the side instead of playing. The first girl to learn I had a crush on her almost puked when she found out. My cat was the only one who consistently chose me over anyone else, and she died.

I've been feeling like this for a while the way things are going I'm not too hopeful for the future

I don't like when people see you struggling they don't pay you no attention to you cross the finish line I'm to the point that those people that can stay at the Finish Line I don't need them

I always felt like this too I always was third choice or fourth choice or even below that

You reach them by actually caring and doing whatever it takes

They can start by calling them children. They are not lil goats. 🤷🏾‍♀️ words have power.

Lets be honest, the kids arent the problem. Capitalism, is draining us all. Teachers forced to focus on non-useful standardized test, with no resources and little to no pay. Parents work long grueling jobs just like teachers, for no pay and no time to invest in theor kids cuz they are just as burnt out as you. And kids are hardly looked after, hardly paid attention to while they struggle to pass test (a terrible sense of if kids are doing well fyi) with no help in site (no money, time or resources from the adults). I hate the pretend like its all the kid or all the parents or even all the teacher. we are ALL part of the SAME system of burnt out, overworked, and unpaid almost slaves as the machine pushes us along and reminds us everyone to blame eac other. Teachers can quit but wiill soon find themselves in a similar postion, still underpaid. Thats fine, it may be easier to deal with the system without the kids or youll likely find it just as asinine, cheap and overworked itll put you in and youll find a new burn out. a few moments a peace. NEVER FORGOT, a small minority of parents and kids have been awful, ALWAYS HAVE (peoppe just forgot) but this system will never stop milking you dry
