IN THESE HILLS
As a boy, my parents' and grandparents' properties adjoined the Jackson-Washington State Forest in the hill country of southern Indiana. I spent many happy hours roaming those hills and "hollers" and still feel a close connection to the area. "In These Hills" is the fictional story of a young man who goes to make his fortune in a large city but eventually returns to the hills, where he finds peace and contentment. Features instrumental arrangements by Brian Leaver.

This has been one of my favorite Gordon Lightfoot songs since I first heard Peter, Paul & Mary’s version, which was released in August, 1965. I’m sure I started trying to learn it soon after that. For some time, I’ve wanted to do a recording of it, and that was accomplished recently with the help, again, of my buddy Brian Leaver and his instrumental and recording skills. Really hope you enjoy i...

Our recent visit to the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol, Va., seeing all the Jimmie Rodgers memorabilia, reminded me that Brian Leaver and I included our version of two Jimmie Rodgers songs on our 2017 album, "Train Town." You can hear "Waiting' on a Train" right here in this post. Jimmie was known as The Singing Brakeman, The Father of Country Music, and the Blue Yodeler. This is...
THE FALL

A song by Joseph F. Persinger, featuring guest artist Tim Grimm on the choruses. A song about a magnificent old sycamore tree taken down in a storm, but on a deeper level an analogy for the ongoing assault on American democracy. My Father's House

Bruce Springsteen wrote "My Father's House" referencing his admittedly rocky relationship with his father. He said at one point he had become obsessed with going out at night and driving past homes where the family had lived when he was a boy. Finally he realized this was motivated by a desire to go back and "make things right." But he had to accept that was no longer possible. When I first hea...

Better Days

"Better Days" was written by Tim Grimm, Indiana's master songwriter and folksinger, and he was kind enough to give our group permission to record it and even make our own video of it. His lyrics capture the essence and emotion of family farm tradition in the Hoosier state and beyond.

This [hopefully] humorous song was my attempt to write a song in the style of Elvis Presley. It has proven to be very popular with audiences at my live shows.
