This is total bullshit! It's been years since electricity became such a finite resource. Shit, I live in Central Florida, and I have sun from dawn to dusk! It takes so little time for my solar panels to fully charge my 5-kilowatt battery bank in the mornings. Most of the sunshine during the rest of the day seems to go to waste! The sun is an INFINITE resource (at least to humans) and if we ever need more power, we add solar panels and increase our battery capacity. My only impact on the grid is to add more power to it. We never use all that we produce, so we sell it to the power company. If they don't want it, then the switch to go off-grid is available to us. We, as a species, are on the verge of an energy revolution that will provide unlimited power to all, at a very reduced rate! Also, the adoption rate of EVs is abysmally slow and will make minimal demands on our rapidly evolving grid!

How do the Amish survive then, they don't use electricity ?

The argument for NEM 3.0 is ridiculous. The base service charge for electricity service to a home is suppose to cover any additional fixed costs that a homeowner incurs for connecting to the grid. What's more by net metering, the homeowner reduces the overall load on the local and regional distribution grid, which should reduce grid costs. Also by adding distributed solar production to the grid, the grid needs fewer large, centralized power plants. And unrecouped fixed costs are NOT passed on to tax payers. That's just bullshit. Utility companies are regulated, private entities. They collect revenue from their customers. They might receive things like grants and easements from states and counties, but they don't subsidies like what is implied here. And then there's the point that wealthier homeowners are paying for the capital costs of these solar systems out of their pockets based on the promise of recouping those costs within a reasonable timeframe. No other electric grid power provider would start building a big project without some kind of commitment to buy the power they produce at some minimum price for some minimum time period. Why should homeowners accept less? And no, I'm not in California and I don't have solar on my home.
