one of a kind
Outstanding performance everyone. I like that song a bunch and you all nailed it.
🎹 Unquestionably the most original, 11:58 inventive and approachable pianist of all time. Bravo, Erroll.
Hidden treasure from "Beneath The Mask"
Thx!👍Be sure to ck out my full album dedicated to Chick open.spotify.com/album/1d7fB9HCBxHaRyERIJgVY4

@@HanksJazz I will!
The piano is an extension of Errolls very being.
Que qu’ un connaît -t- il le nom de ce morceau, merci 🇫🇷🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️
제가 너무나 좋아하는 곡입니다 멋진 연주 잘 들었어요 😊
Thanks very much - my all-time favourite album - My Funny Valentine. The empathy between Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter, the bass player, was just out of this world.
Thanks @PaulGordonBusby. It's my pleasure to find, research, analyze, and share these resources. 👍🎹🎶❗
It's his playful, bluesy, swinging, and soulful sense of rhythm and timing that sets him apart.
Hello everyone, what the name of these songs??? Fantastic pianist! Unique!
This is great stuff, thanks for uploading
Unico
This band is so talented--the jazzy chords and complex, layered harmonies. And I love that Christopher is singing about taking off to Mexico. I want to hear this live in the 1980's in a pair of stoned washed jeans and high heels, eating shoe string French fries and sipping a glass of white wine and not worrying about anything.
Omg. I sooo love this movie and the soundtrack is my favorite ever, especially the opening. I love the harmonica but when the violins join in a tear comes to my eye. Thank you fellow Hank for uploading this.
Max Roach vocab at 14:34 , 14:41, 14:44, 14:58
Awesome!👍👍🎼🎶
Love it Hank... your taste and musicality. And you made it yours and make it so tuneful. thank you
Thanks for listening, David‼👍😎
Thank you for sharing this gem! He and Stuff Smith are my favorites on violin.
SO hip, beautiful and masterful. Thx Hank
My dad loved the place
Definitely heard the influence Chick had on Gene and Buddy.
Provavelmente o maior pianista pulular que eu conheci!
33:10😂

Buddy wasn't all that. Louie is the GOAT❤
Hey I'm 16 and I'm listening!
You have intelligence beyond your years (ears)👍
The opening tune is Mood Island, one of Erroll's own compositions. There were around 200 of these, Misty being the most famous but the others are all brilliant too eg No More Shadows, Dreamstreet, Dreamy, Fashion Interlude, Nervous Waltz, Gemini, Passing Through, Afinidad, Eldorado, Octave 103, Mambo Carmel, Paisley Eyes, She Walked On, Gaslight, A New Kind Of Love (All Yours), Paris Mist, Like It Is, Erroll's Theme, and many more. Such a creative genius, I could listen to Erroll all day and never get bored. He never played any tune exactly the same, he really could play in any key at any tempo. This must be an early 70s TV appearance, late in the little maestro's career. He died on 2nd January 1977 aged just 55, a Gemini Genius Gone Too Soon (that's the title of a piano piece I wrote in honour of him, I've also done one called Garneresque and one called Pittsburgh Piano Player, he is a constant source of inspiration. Like Erroll, I can't read or write music either, self taught all the way).
@autumnleaves2766 Thank you so much for this superb information ‼👍😎🎹
"Pah Known Eee Kaa"
good pronunciation. and Thelonius wrote a great tune for her: "Pannonica" - full nane: Baroness Kathleen Annie Pannonica de Koenigswarter (née Rothschild) but friends called her "Nica"👍😎
Phenomenal!
Mr.Chick Webb (The Daddy)🙏
What can one say. He's like the Godhead of piano.
He was the 'man'.
I once lived on the street in Quincy, MA where the old Zildgian factory Mel is talking about was located. At the time, the Zildgian factory had moved a few miles south to Norwell, MA. Anyway, the original factory building was still standing in Quincy and I’d go to that area outside where so many drummers like Dave Tough, Jo Jones, and Chick Webb had there photos taken next to the factory. It was pretty surreal because I don’t think anyone in the neighborhood paid attention to the building but to me it was full of history. Unfortunately, the building was torn down around 2010 and condos were put up on its site.
Great story! - Thanks for sharing that bit of history👍
Sadly, Mel Lewis would pass just a few months after this interview. It’s invaluable and so important it was done given Mel soon wouldn’t be around to share his incredible insight and knowledge.

I can't ❤❤❤
Sing it Mel!
How'd you find that ? 😎
I found a VHS tape entitled "Just Jazz" when I was on a research grant at the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University. It was a PBS TV show produced by Dan Morgenstern in Chicago in 1970. I transferred it to digital and uploaded to my RUclips channel. 😎👍
Christopher Cross is a very Awesome Talented Man❤❤❤ Amazing guitar solos ❤❤❤ I love Christopher Cross ❤❤❤
I believe this was taken from Loren Schoenberg’s radio interviews with Mel Lewis on the History of Jazz drums..1989 (to give credit to Loren).
@drummer78, Loren gets complete credit in the playlist description. The entire "History of Jazz Drums" is from Loren Schoenberg, senior scholar of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem. He and Mel Lewis (1929-1990) discuss and analyze the histories, techniques, equipment, and ensembles of jazz drummers in this epic 32 part presentation from 1989. Loren gave me these recordings to put on RUclips.👍
Thanks ever so much for posting this lengthened version for we who appreciate the film! So love this film and the Goldsmith bittersweet score! Best to you!
Man that last recording is so killing. Where can I find that version of ‘Tiny’s Blues’ ?
So is this the final episode in the whole series? I had a feeling that there were a few more after this one? Thanks.
@monsterjazzlicks, There were more episodes planned according to Loren Schoenberg, but unfortunately these are the sole surviving recordings from the radio broadcasts in the 1990's, shortly before Mel Lewis's passing.
@@HanksJazz Ok, thanks for letting me know. I'm actually grateful for what we have in that case. It's a truly amazing series! 😀
Nice show. Trumphet and trombone unison. ❤
lovely, soulful and swinging
@davideastlee9983, thank you‼👍😎🎹
I love Erroll Garner. Beauty, Soul and Joy in equal measure. He's my favourite pianist. Thank you for this incredible upload and thank you, Erroll, for the music.
You're very welcome!👍😎🎹
